My DS 20 is working in the UK now and i was wondering about health cover for him

He has always been covered under us as a family ,but now that he is in another country he will not be covered by our policey

he will be over there for at least 2 years
thanks for any info

Hmm, not sure how it would work, because we don't have to have "health cover". Every UK citizen is covered by the National Health System (NHS) for medical care. You can pay to go "private", that is, to go to a private health company so that you get to stay in a "nicer" hospital should you need surgery etc. (private room and the like), and so that you get an appointment with a specialist faster.

If your son is paying UK National Insurance, I would have thought he would be covered under the NHS.

Thats great to know
must get him to look into it

I know if you visit another EU country you used to be able to get an E-111 form, but I think this is now replaced by a new European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

There is more information on the Department of Health site:

DH Site

and on the Irish site:

Irish Health Service Executive

On this site is states:

Travelling to Great Britain or Northern Ireland
You don’t need a European Health Insurance Card to get necessary healthcare while on a temporary visit to the UK. It is enough to show proof that you are ordinarily resident in Ireland – in practice, this means a driving licence, passport or similar document.

Thanks Tim
He has a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

I wish that everyone could get free cover here :wizard:
at the moment I have to pay €30 just to see a doctor and pay for any tablets etc , which we have to pay the first €90 then it is free after that per month
:sad2:
