I'm an American who talked to lots of people from the UK last August and every single one of 'em talked about how they could not get over the heat. They all said they'd never experienced anything like that. The poor souls seemed downright miserable, although they didn't say so.

It is almost unbearably hot and muggy in Orlando in August. So there's your heads up. Now I'm gonna ske-daddle out of here.

We went in August, first time we had been then, all our future trips will be 3 weeks in Aug. also - school holidays and my wife is a teacher - so we are stuck with it really.

It was very hot yes and did take us a few days to adjust.
However:
A) We went the last 2 weeks and the parks were very quiet which helped a lot.
B) We also went in March when it was cold and wet a lot of the time, would prefer August over that.
C) The locals in Orlando were saying that compared to July when the weather was 'unbearable' that August was hot but not as bad.
D) We are lucky in that we go every year so do not feel the need to rush around and try and cram everything in.
E) I got a great tan

Must admit when we were walking round the parks my forehead was perspiring most of the time, with a young child in tow it was hard work at times , however, we had a great holiday and I am sure next year will be the same.
All in all I would never put anyone off going in August, although I would not be as keen if the parks were packed, hence would recommend the last 2 weeks.

I went in November one year and didnt emjoy it. It just didnt seem right wearing trousers instead of shorts (strong cold wind while we were there).

I dont feel like I am on holiday properly unless it is considerably hotter then the UK, maybe its just me but I dont really feel uncomfortable in the Florida heat now like I did the first year.

I also agree that (besides the hurricanes) late August is a great time to visit.

I agree, would never want to go to Florida if I had to wear trousers and a coat etc

We have been 3 times (and going again in 3 weeks) in November and the weather has never been that cold we had to wear trousers. We were having to slip a jacket on late at night but the temp was very good???

We tend to o in September, it is hot, but those squeeze breeze things really help!

I think people who haven't experienced heat and humidity before don't really know what it's like. Even folks who have been to the Med. may think they have experienced 'hot' weather. But 'hot' Med. weather is completely different to the humid heat in Florida.

I do not think it is just about the heat though, touring theme parks in high summer with children is tiring enough (naturally it is very enjoyable), but when it's 90 degress plus and very humid also it is bound to be difficult at times.
If the parks are very busy then it can be hard work - late August when the parks are quieter is much better.

I also think that the fact that the majority of us are frequent visitors means we can plan things easier, there is not the need to rush around too much to see everything (that is the case for us anyway).

If you don't like the Florida heat you could always try DLP in November...
Imho "too hot" is similiar to "too much money" both are equally incomprehensible.

Sorry Mick, what does DLP mean? I am hopeless with abbreviations.

I agree about the cost - but kids having 6 weeks off school and the missus being a teacher we are stuck really with summer hols.

We have always been to Orlando in October or at Christmas . This year we went in August(now both teachers). We loved it.

Yes it was hot. Yes it was humid but we really loved it. Swimming without freezing and getting wet was lovely. We feel you just have to be sensible - drink lots of water and have a break as needed.

We will go in August next trip.

You just cant predict Florida weather, we just got back a few days ago and even though it was October we had to wear trousers for a few days, you could say it was to do with Wilma hitting but the fact is we still had to wear trousers and every single member of our party agreed it felt weird wearing trousers in Florida, we wont rule out going in October again though because the parks were pretty empty and we understand after speaking to the locals in the parks that it was just a freak and never usually happens.

Ive been twice in Novemeber and it was never cool enough to wear trousers! Most of the time it was pretty hot and some days it was uncomfortably so.

I've been mostly in August and it is as hot as Hades! But I love it

Having said that, we went in December and the weather was very cold. Only three days out of a twenty three day holiday could we wear shorts - and it was coats necessary for a lot of the rest of the days.

Me, I would choose August any day. based on my personal experience. I know others love December nbut now I've done it once and seen MVMCP, Osborne lights, CP and all the other Xmas festivities, I have no desire to visit again at this time for the foreseeable future.

The only thing I would say about the Med in August vs Florida - give me Florida any day! They are at least equipped to deal with the heat. In Ibiza air conditioning did not seem to exist anywhere we found and it was honestly the most miserable fortnight of my life.

Well like I said in my original post it was very cold and a strong wind was blowing for quite a few days. This was mid Nov

The best it got during our stay was very weak, watery sun on a couple of mornings - we sat on sunbeds around the pool -with jumpers on

Oh and I had a cold which didnt exactly help. Each to their own but I would only ever go now between June and Sept if I had a choice.

Usually in the high 80s or low 90s which is plenty hot enough for me. I do love May as well which is getting hotter but has the Epcot Flower Festival which is beautiful.

I think ideally a lot of us who go July/August go because of the school holidays and not necessarily because we choose to - mainly as the flight prices are extremely high rather than the hot weather.
Still I think late August is a good time to go as the crowds are light.

The weather at some times of the year, Feb/March/April for eg is getting more unpredictable, the average temp in March is 80 degrees approx, however when we were there this March it was well below that and at times pretty cold.

we hhave been May/july once and august twice. we love florida in august as it is such a change from an english summer we are going to florida this december to experiance all the christmas stuff but we have also booked to return august 2oo6 we just love the heat and the humidity especially when all your attractions are airconditioned we take our time and just enjoy we dont rush
