Heads Up - USAirways bag fees

I never understood the fee in advance, it was such a small difference that it really didn't matter.

If you fly a lot for business (and leisure), it DOES add up. My work doesn't reimburse luggage fees. Even 10 roundtrips at $2 savings/each way...$40 I'd rather keep in my pocket than give to the airline.

I travel a quite a bit, but I could never imagine a company not reimbursing for ALL business travel expenses.

My company's official policy is that they will only reimburse checked bag fees if you have a business reason to check luggage. I have to also carry a laptop, so that is my business reason. Luggage, laptop and purse is too much. Plus sometimes I have manuals or paperwork (I'm a trainer). I've never had it questioned. I had a 1 night trip back in June and I did a rollaboard and it was a pain juggling everything (I used a small purse I could put in the bag).

I do contract work and am basically considered self-employed, but work through an agency. The agency covers the airfare, lodging, and rental car, but does not pay ANY luggage fees, gas for the car, and my food. Good thing is, I can write off the stuff they don't pay.

(which will also include my trip to WDW later this year since there is a continuing education conference!) :goodvibes

It all works out in the end, but my point was that $2 here and $2 there can still add up.

Oh, yeah....and maybe "technically" I could carry on, but most of my trips involve at least one connection, and usually 2, sometimes onto regional jets or turboprops. I'm not willing to cart all of my stuff around an airport if I don't have to.

This doesn't affect us because we purchased back in early September. Although I am disgusted enough we have to pay $23. We hope to avoid this by packing lightly enough to use smaller bags. We'll have a washer/dryer, so this is doable. I am really annoyed by baggage fees. They have become a cash cow for the airlines and the fees continue to creep up, pretty much negating any decent fare.

I really wish we could have used SWA for this trip. I booked too early instead of waiting it out. :headache:
