Heads up - Don't reallocate or modify right now if you dont absolutely have to!

My

The reservation I reallocated and that got all messed up was across 2 UY’s.

You have to call ms to book across UY or book separately and merge
Hello, I recently got in a BLT June use year contract (before I found this website). I then realized I may need to get into cross UY bookings because I want to book that last weekend in May then to early June week for family trip, thinking that might help with crowd a little bit and kids will be excited as they will just finish school year. I can’t find too many info how people book it. I’m thinking to 1) use my 2025 points to book last a few days in May 2026, 2) use my 2026 points to book June days, 3) bank my rest 2025 points to 2026, 4) modify June reservation using banked 2025 points, 5) call CM to link the reservation. Do you think this will work? Or better to plan a full June week for my very first booking to keep it less complicated. Thank you!

Seems like this will work, but some of this is still so complicated to me. Hopefully someone can confirm

Probably the easiest way will be to call Member Services and have them book it and arrange the points. Although if you book the May portion online and then call MS to ask them to book the June portion that would work too. I had one reservation that crossed my Use Year and that is how I handled it. Congrats on your new DVC contract!

Any reason you wouldn't swap steps 2 and 3, and thereby not need to do step 4? I might have misunderstood your situation but I think that would work and save a step.

Thank you all for sharing thoughts!!

I’m thinking to secure June portion first and then bank 2025 points. Worried if any part in June not become available then i can still change May portion to have flexibility. Want to book at 7 month at Poly (longhouse is okay) and then BWV. Not sure if availability will be good. I watched some YouTube availability video and DVC field guide think it might work. I will take the advice to call CM after May is booked and see what they can do first. Worst come worst, I will just go a week trip all in June.

I bought BLT, but want to save the BLT stay for 2027. We went to MK and Epcot last year. I saw last summer and this summer both had 3 day 3 park promotion. Hoping next year we can do the 3 parks other than MK. Then BLT is not great for the other 3 park locations.

I can’t wait the contract to close and get to use the points haha!

Just be aware that if you have to cancel that trip anytime after January those points for May dates will be lost.

If it’s possible, I’d do it all in June.
Yea, probably just take the easier route to move one week. Can’t to go haha! Thank you for sharing thoughts.

Yeah I just had a whole mess up of points allocation related to this. I subtracted a night from our upcoming December trip (went from 4 nights down to 3 at VGF) and those points ended up being returned into the prior Dec 2024 UY, which should have been impossible since I had already banked those points ahead and the reservation was already booked within the next Dec 2025 UY.

I then (likely making things worse), for the 2nd time now, banked the incorrectly returned points back into the Dec 2025 UY, which, again they already HAD been in that UY in order to make our initial reservation. I then re-booked the same 3 nights since I wanted to make sure those Dec '24 points (that I've now re-banked) would be used for the reservation.

Well, that screwed EVERYTHING up. All of a sudden it's showing that the 86 points I SHOULD have remaining in our Dec 2025 UY are now showing as 86 Dec 2023 points, rendering the points unbankable. We've definitely already used all of our 2023 points lol but the IT department has been working on this issue for over 3 weeks now and still nothing has changed after spending over 2 hours on the phone with MS over a series of 3 calls trying to sort this all out. I guess it's good to know I'm not the only one this happened to.

Anyway, end of mini-rant, and I'm glad I found this thread. :-)

Man I hate this situation the longer it takes. So now I'm looking to add my mother-in-law to our reservations for December but I'm afraid to do any sort of modifications online and potentially further mess up how our points are allocated. Sort of forcing me to make (what should be entirely unnecessary) phone calls to MS just to be on the safe side. Not a great feeling when I'm almost afraid to use my DVC membership lol.

Wait, so going online and adding a guest (not changing primary guest) has messed up people’s points allocations? Modifying the reservation (which involves point allocations) and modifying the guest list (which has nothing to do with points allocations) are two separate processes, two separate places to click the word Modify. I may not have been keeping up with this thread!

Mine was messed up when they (MS by phone) reallocated points. Then 2 points went missing

Yes, modifying a reservation (even if you don't actually change anything) will change the points allocation to use the most restricted points first. I have used this "feature" when I have cancelled a reservation that used banked points to move them to a reservation using current use year points. As long as you take the modification to the end (confirmation), the points will be reallocated.

It didn't mess up my point allocation, but I was afraid it might.

What you said is correct and I found that out yesterday on the phone. I wasn't sure if it would mess anything up so I figured I'd be on the safe side and call in.

I’m glad you confirmed that Modifying guests is different from Modifying the reservation itself - two separate buttons with two separate effects.

That happens by clicking the Modify Reservation button. It does not happen if you click the Modify Guests button, to add or remove a guest.
