Hi guys. This is my annual "What the family is doing, and how are things going?" questionaire/itinerary. While I'm interested in hearing from everyone since you guys are great, I'm most interested in hearing from VB regulars and people who've been there recently. We're heading down there for a week beginning early Saturday 6/16 traveling from Ohare to Atlanta and connecting to Melbourne for what I believe will be about a 30 minute ride to the resort. Although we'll probably stop at the local equivalent of ... what was the name of the supermarket... and grab some boogy boards and various and sundry food items for breakfast and a few lunches to hold down the costs. Myself, my lovely wife, a 15 year old son, 12 (going on 20) daughter, who already knows all there is to know), and a 10 year old girl who is my little sweetheart, and the 12 year old's girlfriend are heading down to do VB. We've been there 5 years ago and had a blast. What's changed? What's going on this time of year down there? We are of course going to head over to Ocean Grille and Capt. Hiram's...maybe do the bike rental, if you guys think it's worth it, and grab a jetski rental maybe. What about Sonya's? Are they still doing the buffets? Anything I'm missing that is a must to do? Let me know, and I hope your all having a wonderful life too. Let me know if I can bring anything back for you all, or say hi to people while we're down there...
Oh, doing an alamo rental btw, I'm hoping they're decent. Can't stand when they try to nickel and dime you..."would you like a steering wheel with that rental sir?"...yeesh.

Hehe, sorry this was such a mish-mash, but hey, I REALLY need this vacation, but I've gotta watch the 12 year old and her friend...they think their going to be doing guy-hunting, and I'm gonna be doing the imitation of that father in the "Fab 5" commercial where he scares the bejeebers outta the kid dating his daughter by saying "Yeah, I'm in her Fab 5 too...right next to you...It's almost like I'm watching you.....ALL THE TIME!!!!!" If that doesn't work, I'll just show em my gun collection...Hrrrm don't know how that'll go over at the security checkpoint...maybe I'll rethink that...Oh well, if anyones going to be down there from the 16th to the 23rd of June...then cya there.

Haven't been there recently... last time we were there was in Feb 07. But since you haven't been in 5 years lots of things have changed. The Hurricanes from I think 3 years ago now have chnaged the face of the resort, for the better IMHO. Sonya's open now Thurs - Sun (at least that was the way in Feb). Campfire is now as the north end of the resort.

Go to SquidLips near Hirams.... good family style rest.

Please say hello to Linda and Amanda from Jackie and Richie for me!

Enjoy, have a frozen drink and relax.:cool1:

We were there in April. We had incredible dinners at Sonya's (don't forget the DVC discount!) and Ocean Grille. Capt. Hiram's was just average. We went to Walmart for sundries.

The ocean was very rough so we spent most of our time at the pool. There is a lot of chair "reserving" at the pool. The CMs seem to be on top of it, though.

The campfire was fun, I would definitely try to go.

Have fun!! We had a great time and we will go again for sure!

Our first trip and it was wonderful. Of course, it is nesting season for the loggerhead turtles so that was cool to learn about. The ocean was great for bodysurfing. We had a timeout early one evening when a school of minnows showed up just offshore. The lifeguards told everyone to stay out of the water because larger fish eat the minnows and what eats larger fish?? :scared1: Actually, it was quite cool because you could see this dark section of the water just beyond where the waves broke on the sand.

Shutters was not what I would call a great restaurant. We liked Orchid Island Pizza just across the corner from VB. They will deliver or you can pick up - no room to eat inside.

Lots of activities but I didn't see too many teenage boys there. Looks like your 12 y/o & her friend will have to make crafts instead!! :thumbsup2

Have a great time on your trip!!
