Any advice on what to do, where to eat, what to bring? Also, were should we grocery shop?

We are headed down in a few weeks and we were there last year too. You will love it. We shopped at Piggly Wiggly, which was not too far away. The front desk will give you directions. Make sure you go to customer service there and they will give you the card to get the weekly discounts.

There are many good restaurants to eat at, and you also can get a guidebook when you check in. We liked The Old Oyster Factory, and a place just down the road called I believe Captain's Seafood. The Old Oyster Factory was fancier, but we had a great meal at Captains Seafood, a very casual atmosphere. People here will tell you to go to Giuseppi's for pizza. I think we are spoiled here in the New York area with good pizza. None of us (2 adults, 3 kids) liked the pizza there at all. If you have the opportunity, and are willing to do a really special meal, try to do "A Private Affair" with Chef Gordon right there on property. We did it last year and have another one planned for our upcoming trip. It is a truly memorable evening. (Make sure you get the crabcakes if you do it.)

Bring suntan lotion and your bathing suit and you'll have a great time!

Second Captain's seafood. Not too fancy, but great place! If you like Greek food, there's a little place in a shopping plaza called "It's Greek to Me". And if you like German, there's Hofsbrau resturaunt. We couldn't find a scrubbie sponge, so bring that. Rent bikes for the length of your stay, $25. Recommended activities we did are "Secrets of the Marsh", "Beach Nature Walk", "Behind the Ears", all free. Also recommended, $15, was the members only gathering at the Beach House one evening. Actually, in order to get the best there, why don't you bring a tour guide? I'll even volunteer! Can you tell, we loved it there. Oh, yes, and in the water to the right as you face the main lodge, watch for swimming dolphins in the morning and evening. And we brought binoculars since we're bird watchers, but I'd recommend them to anyone for nature watching from the pier.

We were just talking about our next trip and where we planned to return for dinner. Mostly, we like to cook in our villa -- the kids are little and we find it easier. But, the one place we do plan to return is the Salty Dog Cafe at South Beach. DH wants to go back to Old Oyster Factory which we probably will do. DS8 and I prefer Salty Dog. Both are excellent.

We love to bike ride to the beach and one the beach. We rent the bike from Disney when we are there (just bring your cell phone if you have one in case you have a problem so you can call the resort. If not, it could be a long walk back...:( ). We enjoy the Behind the Ears tour also. Mostly, we just like to hang out. The kids love the fish for crabs (we go July, don't know if they are around now). They love to walk out in the muck at low tide around the resort (with the rubber boots Disney will supply if you ask) and see what kind of treasures they find.

It's one of our favorite vacation spots. We plan on returning every year until 2042. Have a great time!!

groceries: Sam's Club and Publix (no shopper's card needed :D ) and Harris Teeter (shoppers card needed :( ).

Restaurants: Pick up one of those handy-dandy "Where to Dine" magazines that are everywhere. They give a lot of info about type of food and price.

HHI is great and I second all the activities stated with an emphasis on Beach/pool time and shopping! We love Old Oyster House, but also recommend Scott's right at Shelter Cove we have eaten there 3 times and food was fabulous..it is small so make a ressie. We also loved Hilton Head Diner for breakfast(open 24 hrs). The mexican place at Shelter Cove is also very good. We shop at Food Lion or Piggly Wiggly. Take out at the pools are also decent. We enjoyed the campfire with DS and he loved the marsh adventure. DH and DS also did the wildlife canoe trip at Pinckney Island. Try to play a game of pool in Murgie's Den. We loved HHi so much take we bought 50 add on points there in Fall(we have beenOKW folks since 1994)
