Heading for Hilton Head this Saturday!!

We decided to expand and use our DVC points at places other than DW. So we're heading to Charleston Place for 3 days, and 3 days at Hilton Head. I know nothing about Hilton Head - we don't golf - will there be enough for my husband and I to do? Also, from what I hear of the resort, there aren't any restaurants? and the nearest ones are 2 miles away? And, there isn't an onsite beach - that is also a few miles away? Hmmm photos of the place look like it was right on the water...oh well, I can do anything for three days!!

Please anyone's who been there, give me your opinions of this place!!

You can check out my website at http://ttowery.tripod.com for some HHI facts, photos, etc. It is a little dated, but I plan to update it soon. Still there is enough there to give you an idea of what to do.

Yes the resort is not on the beach, but they have a seperate beach house that is on a very nice beach. There's plenty of opportunities to walk the beach, go on nature walks (birding even), and many opportunities for boat rides, even this time of the year. A day in Savannah is well worth the trip. - only 45 minutes away.

There is a snack bar at the resort, and many wonderful resturants within 10 minutes drive. I suggest the early bird at Alexander's.

Relax in the rocking chairs on your porch! that was my favorite activity in Oct while my DH was golfing. It really was a very relaxing vacation, just what we needed for a few days. We arrived on sunday and left on Wednesday. We wanted to see what it was like. We liked it so much that we're going back this Sept for a Sunday-Friday stay. I enjoyed walking around the resort, there are also activities you can do. They will give you a sheet when you check in that explains it all. I went on a tour of the island - a Disney guide with about 8 - 10 others in a van for $20.00. I think it lasted about 2-2/15 hours. Very interesting for a first timer. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the resort also.

Drive over to Sea Pines Plantation (at the end of the island)--go to Harbour Town and climb the lighthouse!!! Rent some bikes for your stay. Eat at the many great restaurants. You can pick up the activity guides when you get there for more ideas. Have a wonderful trip--the weather right now in Chas. and HH is absolutely gorgeous.

Although I do enjoy to play golf and had a great time visiting some of the courses there are lots of other things to do and great restaurants to visit. We really enjoyed riding bikes through the Sea Pines Plantation, walking around Harbour Town and climbing the famous Lighthouse. Hilton Head is famous for their beaches, take a long stroll and check out some of the beautiful homes. Good shopping also. We stayed in the Singleton Beach area and rented a great home through Hilton Head Rentals and Golf. They offer great packages and provided us with lots of information for our stay.

its certainly a different type of vacation than being at WDW, but its a great vacation if you are looking to relax. The live oak trees and marsh views just put you at ease. The main resort is not on the beach but there is a beach house that is very nice and very easy to get to. You can take the shuttle, drive over if you have a car and park there, or ride a bike over.

there may not be restaurants on property but theres a few within a 2 minute walk over at the marina.

im sure you will find enough to do, if not just relax on the beach or by one of the pools, take a bike ride over to the beach house and up and down the beach, theres a very nice tennis club near the beach house if you are into tennis (great clay courts)

if you just cant find anything that interets you-take a drive to Savanah for the day if you have never been. Its only about an hour away and would be good to see both Cahrleston and Savanah which are sometimes reffered to as sister cities

make sure you walk through the open market on Market St while in Charleston

have a great trip - you'll love Charleston, HHI resort [great Tanger outlet shopping if you get a rainy day] and Savannah [be sure to get down to the waterfront and drive Bull Rd from top to bottom]. Depending on what you are planning while in Charleston, there is a great town just over a big bridge from Charleston called Mt. Pleasant - it is the home of the plantation that was the inspiration for the movie Gone With the Wind and at which there was actual filming for the movie Glory. And if you like barbeque, try the Sicky Fingers restaurant there - wow! When in Hilton Head be sure to go to Signe's - the bakery there is to die for - get a key lime pound cake!

Just wanted to give you a MAJOR heads up. Are you arriving in HH THIS Saturday? As in ST. PATRICK'S DAY? If so, be sure that's NOT the day you plan to have a quiet, leisurely visit to Savannah! It will be NUTS here on St. Patrick's Day. We have the second largest St. Patrick's Day celebration after New York (I think). AND, since it falls on Sat. this year, it will be more nuts than usual.

The parade runs downtown, and streets will be closed for hours. The crowds will be awful. There will be zero parking. It CAN be a fun day, but didn't want you to be unprepared, as that would be a shock!
