Headed to DC for Cherry Blossom Fest - Updated: I'M BACK!! (More on 4/28/09)

Have a great time, Ann! I'm sure looking forward to seeing your pictures when you return. Since you are right in the area when you are at the Lincoln Memorial, do go check out the Vietnam Wall and the Korean War Memorial. Won't take more than an hour to do them both. (Unless you are like me, and get to chatting with the vets that are always at the Wall).

We don't have a hard set itinerary, but those were on it---was just typing from memory. We also plan to check out the WWII memorial.

I probably wouldn't be too chatty with strangers (hard to believe, I know), but DH always manages to strike up a conversation with any older vets that he sees around----especially retired members of the USN, so that'll give me a nice long time to stroll around and shoot :thumbsup2

Need to add to Sunday:
PP photos and upload and share for DIS board ;). JK, of course! Have a great time and can't wait to see your photos :thumbsup2

I took the day off on Monday to take care of that......... ;)

No really, I did. :rotfl2: So if all goes as planned hopefully I'll have some to share by Monday evening.

Sounds like an action-packed weekend, Ann! Have a great trip; I'm looking forward to seeing your photos.

Thanks Amy! I know taking Monday off to PP my photos isn't the most responsible thing to do and those that rely on me at work will have to suffer an extra day without their assistant, but....

TOO STINKIN BAD!!! :banana::banana:

:rotfl:

were damaged. She had CCL surgery with an ortho surgeon. She's doing well, though I don't know if she'll ever be able to go back into the agility ring. No matter. She has done everything an agility star could possibly do--I just want her to have a good quality of life. She is such a show girl, though, that I may look into rally.
Last week, we went for her 6 week check and the surgeon said he is very pleased with her recovery. She is in an intensive physical therapy program now with a canine rehab therapist. We also have a walking regimen going. Even her fur has grown back quickly.
She is my heart dog and there is nothng I wouldn't do for her. I absolutely adore her!

Wow. I can't imagine what this must be like. If you don't mind me asking, what happened to her leg? Our 9 year old lab, Sadie, had a small tumor removed from her side about two weeks ago. The pathology report came back benign, but the vet told us it was good that we went ahead and had it removed because it would have become malignant. It really broke my heart the day she had her surgery, but she did great and is recovering nicely. She's back to her old self now (except for the patch of hair missing and her scar). Anyway, I wish you guys the best of luck for a speedy recovery.

Woohoo!! sometimes we have to throw responsibility out the window and do what we really want to do. Cant wait to see the pics especially some with the new 30mm Sigma. By the looks of things you are going to be dead tired each night but it will be a good tired... kinda like a day in WDW tired

Have a great time and be safe!!!

Your Saturday is very optimistic!

I look forward to seeing your pics. I think I am going to go in tomorrow and take some pics as well.

Yeah we've got everything prioritized so if we don't get to do everything, no big deal---it's only 3 hours away, we can always go back!!

Slightly OT---but DH was in the NAVY stationed on the USS Alexandria up in Groton, CT. We'll be staying in Alexandria this weekend, anything there that you think is worth seeing?

I'll be looking forward to seeing your pictures--my mom and her "boyfriend" will be there, too. They're on a bus tour, so look for a busload of senior citizens ;). I hope the weather is good enough so you can get some great pictures--we're supposed to get snow (again) on Saturday, here.

So where are the photos? I thought there would be at least 1 by the time I got home from work. I'm waiting patiently, can you tell?:confused3

There are actually two whole pictures already!! I posted one on the Photo Board POTD and one on the Nikon POTD :thumbsup2 I've processed about 20 so far, I have about 400 more to look through. It was definitely NOT what I was expecting this weekend. The crowds!!! :scared1::scared1:

Here is one I didn't put up yet. From Arlington National Cemetary our first day.

So....an update for everyone. We're back!!! It was an EXHAUSTING trip. The weather was fantastic the whole time, but very very windy. On Friday, we arrived in DC on time around 1:00 and headed out to Arlington, then walked across the Potomac to see the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the World War II Memorial, the White House, the Vietnam and Korea Memorials...the list goes on and on. By the time we got back to our hotel, not one of us wanted to do anything but sleep.

For our second day, we were up at 5:30 and headed into DC shortly thereafter. We went to the Capitol Building, the US Botanic Gardens, the Smithsonian Castle, the Air & Space Museum, the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden, the National Museum of American History, the Tidal Basin and out to a local Irish Pub for dinner. Day Two was not AT ALL what I expected. There were wall to wall people, lines for EVERYTHING and so many people around the Tidal Basin that I didn't even take a single picture. It was insane, but lots of fun at the same time.

Sunday, we got up at a reasonable hour (7:00am) and headed out to the US Naval Museum on the Navy Yard in DC. We also swung by the Tidal Basin again hoping it would be cleared out (but alas, it wasn't) and then went to spend a few hours at the National Zoo. The icing on the cake was the fact that it took about 5.5 hours to get home when it only took about 3 hours to get there!!

All in all, the trip was a success. I didn't get pictures of everything I wanted and the trip didn't go exactly as planned----but overall we had a great time and I'm excited to be back and start PPing my shots.

Stay tuned!

Welcome home Ann. Can't wait to see photos :yay: My daughter is leaving Thursday for DC on a school trip and will hit many of the places on the list. Kind of wish I was going (to take pics) but then I would have to deal with 90 something 8th graders. :scared1:

C'mon, Ann, where are those pictures?? You've had one whole day! You're not wasting your time on stuff like unpacking, laundry and sleeping, are you?;) Can't wait to see them!

Some from lunch our first day at California Tortilla, a Mexican restaurant.

I liked the colors in this one.

There was so much hot sauce to choose from with names like "Butt in the Tub" and "Colon Cleanser." :rotfl:

More to come some other time...maybe tomorrow night. I can't stay up much longer doing this. Soooooo sleepy. :surfweb:

Great pics so far Ann .. cant wait to see some more of them!! Your trip sounds like it was lots of fun and exhausting at the same time.

Awesome shots Ann. I believe this building...

is the arlington masonic temple. I don't know much about it but we have parked at that metro station many times when heading into DC. and I always thought that building was pretty cool. Can't wait to see more

Hmmm...maybe. I'll have to look into that. I actually took that picture from the Metro stop in Alexandria, VA---not Arlington, so unless it just looks really close, I'm thinking there is the possibility it's something else. We tried to get over to it a few times but couldn't figure out how (short of getting into a taxi and pointing to it). ;)

Edited: I just checked Google Images and it looks like it's the George Washington Masonic Temple in Alexandria, VA. I love the internet!
