Ok, were going back to WDW in april since the last time we went my DD stayed sick the whole week and never got to do anything. We want to go to the HDDR on this trip we have never been, I was told it's just about impossible to get a wheelchair in there, is that correct, she can not transfer, I know someone here has had to have been, please give me a heads up before I pay ( we won't have the dinning plan ). Thanks alot.

It's been a few years since I've been to the HDDR but I don't recall having any problem getting my wheelchair into the dining area. It's slightly crowded but it's not that bad. Make sure you notify them that a wheelchair user is in your party when you make your reservations.

Now the problem you may have is they've switched to a 3 tier system for seating. The only seating level that is on the ground floor is the highest priced seats. There is no elevator up to the second level so you may be required to purchase the higher priced seats(about $8.00 more). On the other hand since the other seating options are not wheelchair accessible you may be upgraded for no extra charge. I have no idea how Disney is currently handling this situation so if you find out would you please post it here. Thanks. :)

We have been to the HDDR mant time with my DD in a WC . I would tell them when you make your ressie and you should be fine.

Ok, so I called dinning and asked about the different pricing and wheelchair seating and the person I spoke with was Lavina and she looked into it for me. Wheelchair guest are going to have to be seated in : cat. 1 sections, cat. 2 & 3 are not wheelchair accessible they have a couple of step ups. And you will be required to pay the higher fee : 58.99 for adults 29.99 for children, which is really only 4.00 more than cat. 2, which is adults 54.99, children 26.99. I didn't price cat. 3 ( I knew that was a lost cause for us ). Yea, we will eat our monies worth ;) .

Check with Disabilities about this. This may be illegal. I know they are not allowed to do this at shows.

Thanks for the info Terri.

I've seen it done before at some theatres in my area. On the other hand I've seen the opposite done at some theatres too. The Lyric in Baltimore has the wheelchair seating in the box seats which are just about the most expensive seats and you get no discount. On the other hand I once paid $7.50 for a seat to see Chicago in New York because the theatre charged wheelchair using guests the price of the lowest ticket in the house, I'd guess the $7.50 was a students standing room only ticket.

O'm not an expert, but I don't think the higher price would stand up in court if that is your only choice. It is not legal to make you pay more just because they have not made a less expensive option available. Doing that would be against the equal opportunity part of the ADA (I can't think of the exact words in the ADA -it's way too late).
I can think of several things they could do:
- one would be to charge the higher price and refund it later after you have shown up and they can see that you actually need the wheelchair seating (that would keep people from saying they have a wheelchair just to pay a cheaper price for the better seats).
- another would be to set aside a number of seats at a lower price for people using wheelchairs (a percentage of the total that is proportional to the proportions of lower price to higher price seats). Once reservations were taken for those, they could say all at that price are gone and if you want to go, you will have to pay the higher price.

it will be interesting to see what comes of this, becausee, like I said, I'm sure it would not stand up in court.

Well I have 6 months to plan, so the higher price won't be to bad on us. I would rather seat up as close as possible anyways so she can see the show good. It's really just a once in a life-time thing for us so we are looking forward.
