I have been playing around with ProShow for HD slide shows, with a fair amount of success. Not having either a HD burner or HD player I save the shows to a hard drive and play them back from a PC through a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
The file size of the 1080 shows are of course a *lot* larger than the DVD size shows, a few hundred MB for a 1 minute show seems common and it takes the PC a good while to crunch all of this video. Still, the difference between my standard DVD shows and the HD shows is amazing!
