I finally got around to playing with the Sony HD camcorder two years ago. I know a bit late, but a lot has taken place.

It records 1080i. To view it I have to use a sony program, I think.

I am considering giving the camera away and getting a Panasonic TM900 that records 1080/60p. Do you need a proprietory progam to play back. Is this standard with all HD camcorders?

There's nothing wrong with the camcorder you have. You just need some software to make it playable on your Bluray Player and your HDTV. That would be the case with ANY HD camcorder.

You probably got software with the Sony to make HD DVD's (AVCHD) (I shoot Canon but I'm positive the Sony's come with Sony's software. I forget what it's called.)
