HCG Diet

You and couple others have said it's been around for 50yrs like that's proof it works or it's safe. Seems to me if that were the case all Doctors would prescribe it and we'd be one skinny nation.:confused3

Having been through several rounds of IVF myself I can tell you the side effects from messing around with your hormones are forever and are not pretty. I wouldn't trade my kids for anything but I sure wouldn't do it to lose weight.

As Honugirl pointed out, this isn't about people jumping on you it's about letting you and others reading this that maybe it's not such a good idea when there are safer and healthier ways of doing it.

Not trying to be snarky, but just wondering how many of you are medical doctors? My medical dr put me on the shots, per my request. I lost 7.2 lbs last month. It also stopped me from eating due to stress, boredome etc. I have seen my family dr. for over 20 years and trust him. As someone pointed out, many meds are used off label. Viagra is used off label to treat high blood pressure...seriously. Google it. So yeah, I'm gonna go with my dr on this. He has decades of medical training. He also receives those nifty Medical Journals with studies about HCG trials. Since he probably wants to avoid those pesky little maltpractice suits, I'm pretty confident he would put not me on something that is considered dangerous by his peers. I'm not saying this is for everyone. Just check it out with your doctor...get HIS opinion. He may be against it. I have had zero side effects, and I am terrrified of needles, but the needle is soooo tiny, you barely feel it. Anyway, to each his own. We all have our own opinions. I guess what I should have said is for the OP to go to her dr and see what he thinks.Oh, and I'm not on any calorie restrction, but i have found myself craving less junk and more healthy foods.

If your doctor put you on it and is monitoring you, then by all means, do it. But I also understand that there are people out there that read about this diet on the internet and decide to try it and will order the stuff from a pharmacy from who knows where and try to do this on their own and that's not safe.

I guess I would ask, wouldn't it be better in the long run to understand why you stress eat? or what your triggers are so that you can change that behavior once you are off the HCG?

I am not a doctor, but I bloody well might as well be one. I've had to learn so much about pituitary/adrenal disorders that I can actually converse with my doctor on his/her level in medical terms. So yes, I can actually speak to the devastating effects of hormone imbalances. I actually read the medical journals too because my disorder is rare and I have to keep abreast of emerging treatments because my doctors may/may not be aware of what's new.

not a medical Dr, but I have to wonder what happens when you stop taking the HCG? Will the weight come back? Or do you stay on it forever? It just seems to me that healthy eating and exercising is the healthiest way to take pounds off and keep them off. If you dont learn how to eat right, without the HCG (or whatever pill, prepackaged diet food etc) the weight will not stay off. 7.2 lbs lost is good, but in my experience, that amount of weight could have also been lost in a month by eating right and exercising too. My first month following WW I lost almost 10 lbs

I think you ask a very valid question about the stress eating. I am in danger of losing my job (lay off), I see a psychiatrist and psychologist bi-weekly. One of the meds my psychiatrist put me on (I'm thinking Seroquel) caused me to gain 8lbs in 7 days. I'm on the HCG very short term. My depression is not improving and food is so easy access.
About my previous post, I want to apologize....I am so stressed I could pull my hair out. To the OP, the people who are responding to your question are just concerned for your health. I wish I had thought to say that last night, but I didn't, and I'm sorry.

I'm praying the weight will stay off when I stop the shots by modifying my eating behaviors. I am about 20lbs overweight and this was adding to the depression. I don't eat right, and I don't exercise...yeah, I admit it. I was looking for a quick solution so there would be one less thing to worry about.
Sidenote: About 4 years ago I went to NYC with my dad. We spent 4 days in the city, ate at least 3 meals a day, not including hotdogs and snacks. But we walked so much that about a week after we returned, I noticed I had lost 9 lbs. I called him and asked him if he had lost weight and he lost 11...just 4 days, miles of walking and even eating very rich, high calorie food, and we lost weight. I know it can be done. The depression makes me lazy. The work stress wears me out. I know these are excuses...I just don't have much internal strength left to do anything. The weight loss has been the one thing to make me feel good about myself in months. Yeah, I'm going about it the wrong way, but I really needed a quick fix. I needed something to smile about. Desperately.

First *hugs* CaliforniaDreamin. I have suffered from depression and I know how hard it is to crawl out of that dark hole. Exercise helps hon, it really does. If you could maybe talk yourself into a walk around the block every day it will go a long way in lifting your spirits. Good luck to you.

Thank you....a little kindness goes SUCH a long way. You did your good deed for the day.
i really, really appreciate the kind words. You don't know how much.

hugs to you...I know how debilitating depression can be too. Be happy about your loss! I didn't mean to discredit what you have accomplished! I will second wenrob's advice about exercising helping with the depression. Even just a walk around the block for 20 minutes. It really does help release endorphins which will help the depression. Also gives you some alone time to decompress. Hope things turn for you soon.

 I'm very sorry you're dealing with all of that. Depression is a real bear.

I know right now this may seem like the farthest thing from your mind, but have you thought of putting in a few hours a week volunteering? If you do lose your job, you might be able to make a contact that could lead you to a new one and when my depression hits me, volunteering gets me out of my funk. I really come home energized.

Take care of yourself.

You didn't answer my question: if you are only eating 500 caliroes per day on the diet (which I read on the site someone linked) wouldn't you still lose weight without the hormones??????

It is like a supresses your appetite. The HCG works different in a non-pregnant person. It causes you to not be as hungry and in place you take protein supplements.

Come down off your high horse before you hurt yourself....
Please people, get ahold of yourselves. Give the OP a break. Holier than thou much?

I myself, have not tried the HCG diet, but to each his own. There are a lot of off label uses for a lot of medications. DId you know Rogaine was supposed to be a blood prssure med, and people realized that growing hair was a side effect? Weight loss may be a side effect of HCG and eventually people will see one way or another. But who are you to judge?

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

There are clinics that monitor your use and progress. Reputable places are not just going to you the drug and let you be.

There is a thread on WISH where the lady has had great results also.

HI Disneymomma81~ I grew up in Northern Utah. Moved away when I was in 8th grade. I miss the mountains.

Thank you for the positive messges I received since asking my questions. I found my HCG locally, it will be coming in this week and I will be starting it right away.

I have done two rounds of this and lost probably about 45 pounds on it. I lost almost another 20 pounds through exercise and diet.

the 500 calorie restriction is not easy but you get use to it. And it broke me out of my bad habit of snacking out of boredom. When I finished, I started exercising. I am proud to say that I have only gained 2 pounds back. I feel much more confident about myself and it has made a world of difference for me. I chose to do the HCG route. I was very overweight, and still have more to go, I still want to lose about 40 - 50 more. When my clothes start to get too big, I get rid of them, that is my incentive for not gaining anything back. I will not go back to bigger clothes. I started off wearing a size 22 and am now down to a 14.

To those of you who are interested in doing it, do your research, talk with your doctor about it. I have had good results but we are all different. Don't go into this blind.

I had heard of it recently (just the name), but didn't know what it was until this thread. There are a lot of ways to lose weight. This wouldn't be the one for me, but then there are a lot of other diets that aren't for me either. I hope you have great success. :hippie:

Best of luck ~ make sure it's not homeopathic HCG ~ that's what my mom had. All it does is "eat" muscle" she was starving. Her real HCG is on it's way from the site mamaclok on youtube recommended.
