Hello! Disboard fam!
I wanted to know if DCL going to Hawaii anytime soon?

Not before spring 2018 at the earliest. No plans have been released.

The cruises didn't sell very well last time so it's hard to say if they will go back. It was a fantastic cruise though by far the best cruise I've been on.

Maybe they could take the loss once in a while and still do them. Like every other year, alternating doing them in the spring (before Alaska) and in the fall (after Alaska). And I'd prefer the round trip LA (but San Diego would work, also).

Were they outrageously priced?

I've been thinking about doing Aulani.

Nope they were a really great price. They were almost giving them away to cast members and they still couldn't fill the ship. It's a shame it was a great cruise. Will love to do it again but don't see it happening for a while.

Not outrageous but not cheap either. We got an oceanview for the four of us for around 3k with an interline rate. 75pp per day. The reg price would have been around 6k. I had a cruise booked on the Fantasy that month with an OBB for 4,200 so we got a longer, better cruise for less money. I wouldn't have booked it at 6k. 4,200 was about the max I was willing to pay that month for a cruise. Now I wish I could find a verandah room on the Fantasy again for that price. I see they have some GT rates around that price this Oct so I'll keep my fingers crossed for next Fall. It's been a couple of years since we've been on the Fantasy. I would love to sail on that ship again, but not for 6-8k prices I'm seeing this Winter and Spring.

I've been to Honolulu many times. We visited Aulani when we were there. It was nice, but very crowded. It's not really a place I would ever be inclined to go for a vacation. I'm not a big fan of Honolulu either. It's very crowded like Christmas week at WDW every day. Lots of Homeless. The water in the marina area was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. I would rather do a cruise that visits all the Islands or spend a week on Maui or the big Island. There's plenty of people on here that love Aulani though. It's just not for me.

If you want an Hawaiian cruise.... check out the Pride of America. No sea days and you get to see all the islands. However it's not DCL.

We did the Honolulu-Vancouver route last September. We spent 5 days prior to the cruse at Aulani, we loved it, I wasn't ready to leave after 5 days.
The cruise was amazing, would do it again in a heartbeat.
We booked opening day category 5B with gratuities for just over $5,000 for 2A.

We went on the round trip cruises (from LA) in 2012. They were very cheap, especially for 14 days. The ship wasn't completely full, despite the price, and not many children. That's one of the issues, they are during the offseason when people have to take kids out of school. So they can't sell for premium price and it has to be hard to break even on such a long trip. The cruise was great with tons of sea days and we visited 4 islands. They would be a lot more popular (IMO) if they were during the summer instead of spring/fall because kids won't miss as much school on a longer cruise. But that would mean cutting into the limited number of Alaska cruises. Maybe when they add 2 more ships, one could be permanently west coast and another comes over for Alaska in summer.

When people say they were very cheap...by what standards...Disney standards. Im sure DCl still made a nice profit. Other cruise lines still do these cruises for less money than DCL. I'll concede for Disney the prices weren't outrageous...at least not like what were used to seeing from Disney.

My husband did not think that price was cheap at all.
But he told me we could go when they had the next offer after 2012 sailings, so I booked ASAP before he could change his mind.

Definitely not DCL. NCL Hawaii had the worst service of any cruise we've ever been on. Never again.

My sister and BIL went on NCL's Hawaiian for their honeymoon. They weren't happy with it at all. They aren't DCL folks, but they have been on other lines elsewhere. They were very unlucky in that the ship couldn't make it in to 2 of the ports, and it was obvious to them that the ship just wasn't meant to entertain people on-board all that much. Without the ports, they were stuck with little offered to do, and bored. Every time people refer to the Pride as a moving hotel to get them from one port to the next, I feel the need to caution folks that some times it doesn't quite work out that way! Far cheaper than DCL, but they still feel as though they wasted their money. a bummer for sure.

I have family that sailed on the NCL Price and liked it, but they got a really good deal on it. You really can't find a better itinerary than the NCL Pride. If your doing it for the ports and ship is just a place to sleep I think it's fine, but I wouldn't book it unless I got a really good price.

A lot of the Vancouver to Hawaii cruise are repositioning cruises for ships that are moving on to Australia for Australia's Summer cruises. You can find some really good prices on these.

My sister and her husband did a Princess roundtrip San Fransisco to Hawaii for their 30th a few years ago, they loved it, 14 nights I believe.
Earlier this year they got an awesome deal on The Pride of America 7 night, she said no comparison between the two, Princess was great and NCL just meh.
