Has anyone used interval international to go to Hawaii?

What hotel did you stay? and how was your experience?

Any pointers, would be appreciated.

thanks:thumbsup2

I'm not going to be very helpful to you. But we used II to trade into the Marriott Ko Olina Beach club on Oahu. But we used our Marriott Manor Club to trade into it and not DVC. Although it is on Oahu, it is supposed to be in a more secluded area of the island. Since DVC is very popular and very sought after to trade into through II, I would assume you wouldn't have too much trouble trading into something good on Hawaii. Just look what I got with my Marriott Manor Club (Williamsburg, VA) trade. You should be able to get your pick of islands with a DVC trade at a 5 star resort.

Did you like Ko Olina? Disney bought the land to the South and East of the Marriott resort along the same lagoon...

HI is a tough issue. A combo of resorts that are not up to DVC standards but are hard to get overall is quite a quandary. IMO, only the Westin, Marriott and Sunterra resorts are generally worth considering when trading DVC points. Most units available are smaller, usually 1 BR or studios. The other issue is getting something early enough to make air fare work out, esp if one is using FF miles. I've gone to HI several times by the timeshare route. My daughter just return from a 2 week stay where she had a 1 BR OF at the Maui Marriott and a studio at Ko'Olina. We'll be there Jan/Feb staying at the Wyndham in Waikiki and the Westin in Maui (both 1 BR), none using DVC points.

Still, no hard in looking as long as you realize they'll match on ongoing search without calling you and that II will assume you will take a unit starting on Fri, Sat OR Sun for any week you request. Just research to decide what be be acceptable to YOU and start early, at least a full year, preferably 2 yrs out. Remember Westin's tend to be deposited a year out or earlier and many Marriott's at around 12-14 months out.

One thing that many people forget is that you can look into timeshare trades with people like myself that own at Marriott Maui Ocean Club that may want to trade for a certain week at Disney. Boards such as Timeshare Users Group (TUG) and Ownertrades allow you to post (sometimes for a fee) your needs and then be able to work out a deal with another owner. Just a thought and another option that you DVC owners can look into. Enjoy...Nate

That's true but for these type high demand exchange, most of those interested in a direct exchange want a full week in a similar size unit. Understandable but a fair amount more points for the DVC member to give up. In that scenario the exact situation is even more important. For example, a trade to the Maui Ocean Club could be for Oceanside, Ocean Front or garden view. In that scenario the DVC might be willing to give more points for an OF unit, about the same for an Ocean side as through DVC II trade and less for a GV unit. I'd encourage any DVC member who does a direct exchange to be the first to travel of the two parties.
