Hawaii Tsunami - I've been evacuated!

I've been evacuated from my beachfront home in Hawaii. At 6:00 a.m., a firetruck drove down my street with the speaker blaring "This is an emergency, evacuate now!" We packed up all the important stuff and the dog and drove to my mom's place (and using her computer). They've now closed the highway to my house so I don't know when I'll be getting back. My in-laws who live two blocks away - still in the flood and tsunami zone - refused to evacuate. FIL says they'll drive to higher ground "when it comes." Hopefully, it won't be bad.

Oh, please be safe. There is no time to drive to higher ground once it comes, why don't they move just to be safe??????

Bless you for moving away from the Coast. I hope your in-laws don't find themselves in a predicament.

Hang in there. Hopefully you'll be home soon.

I can't imagine it. Watching CNN and praying for you all.

If it hits, my in-laws will be blocked off until the roads are cleared.

My sister and her family also evacuated to mom's. It's quite noisy and crowded here. We're watching the local news and keeping our fingers crossed.

Update: Cell phone/texts are not working consistently because the cell towers are being overburdened. For those of you trying to reach loved ones in Hawaii, try not to worry if you can't reach us.

Watching CNN coverage of this. I wish you well and I am praying everyone will be safe.
I am glad to hear the fire services were out and getting everyone to safety.

Stay safe. We will keep you in our prayers.

Best wishes everyone, everything stays safe and sound! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

We didn't evacuate (I'm up on a ridge above the ocean), stay safe Beachbunny!

I've been wondering about you! Did your husband have to set out on the ship??

My good friend's husband was evacuated for emergency preparation. She's on her own with the kids.

Tina, DH's ship did get pulled out to sea (as did all PH ships) but LUCKILY (LOL) DH just left the ship a week ago, he' s on leave and checks into his new command (here in HI) in a week LOL.

How scary that must have been! I just heard awhile ago that it's all good in Hawaii - waves weren't high at all - so hopefully you're able to return home now..:goodvibes

Had to get off the computer yesterday. I'm on Oahu. All clear was given around 2:00 p.m. HST. I would guess that my house is less than five feet above sea level - so the projected 8 foot surge would have gone straight through my house. That was entirely too stressful. I hope it's another fifty years before something like this happens again.

rparmfamily: my brother is in the military and his unit was on 1/2 hour notice for most of the day.
