Having second thoughts…

So, availability is much better at AKL regardless of timeframe. But they are really cool resorts.

Availability at CCR is always a challenge even for home resort.

CCR also has the 2nd longest contract.

Definitely, as others have started follow your gut and just take some additional time! DVC direct will be there when you are ready should you go down that path --- research is SO important!

Ok so an update for everyone who cares lol. I tried to call my guide today, only to find out that he is off. So i spoke to another guide who said that even though I purchased it over the phone on the 7th, that they give you 10 full days to rescind so technically I had till the end of day tomm to do it. Even still, he made a call over to the QA dept and explained to them what was going on and they put a "paperwork problem" flag onto that contract which stops the process so it can proceed no further. I was told that between both of those I am fine and to just call back and talk to my guide tomm and let him know what I want to do. I'm def leaning towards CCV instead of keeping my AKL, because I fell the same as most of you, trust my gut and be happy. No reason to settle for such a little amount of $$. If it was 400 points or something that would be different. As much as I love and prefer BRV, I know the 2042 thing will bother me and long term for the extra $40/pp to get an extra 26 years over BRV just makes alot more sense IMO

There is an email buried somewhere in your contract that you can email to notify them you are rescinding. I believe it is WDWDVCCancelRequests@disney.com.

As mentioned your paperwork has a full sheet on how to rescind. I know you say the guide you spoke to talk to them and paused it but you should reach out to the proper channels as outlined in your paperwork yourself.

Once you factor in RIV’s chart, BRV resale is pretty close on studio cost per week per year remaining cost.

I’m not sure why BRV resale isn’t even in this discussion, when it sounds like your real goal.

Because I already have one contract expiring in 2042 (OKW) and don’t want to have to worry about extensions or repurchasing in 2042. I have gone to WDW at least once a year if not more every year for the last 35 years and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. I’m not planning on any sort of “exit strategy” and certainly not before 2042. I’m planning on keeping it till I die or very damn close to it lol. So the extra $40/pp now seems like a good investment to get the extra 25 years out of CCV vs BRV.

You didn't explain why you choose 50 points at two resorts. My thought would be to do both 50 points at Riviera. We own 125 there, and I wouldn't want to only have 50 points. Owning the full 100 in one place would allow you the flexibility to book a longer stay. On weekends, the RIV Studio Preferred rooms are over 25 points, so you won't be able to book more than 1 night, with only a 50 point contract--and than that's not much of a 11 month advantage is it?

That being said, this year we have a 4 day trip booked at CC over Labor Day. It is possible even if you don't own there!
The thinking of doing 50 at each would be to bank every other year at each resort and be able to use 100 at each every other year but still be able to have the 11mo priority at whichever one we want to stay at that particular year. Or we could do split stays but have the 11mo window since we will mostly use it for studios. It’s only my wife and I with no kids. We could even do tower studio if we had to at Riv. My wife’s fav resort is Riv and mine it wilderness so if I change out the AKL to CCV then we both get exactly what we want. That’s the idea anyway lol

I’d sell the OKW and buy either all CCV direct or maybe some direct CCV and some BR resale.

That isn’t something I say often on these boards, but you actually plan to commit!

So let’s commit. Prices are high for OKW. It’s a good time to trade up for something you actually want. For me, that would be worth some commissions and closing right now, and even paying the direct premium, for something you plan to hold for decades and want to keep using.

I’d think about talking to a local lawyer about how you can title this. If this is part of your estate plan, do the buy right.

I hear ya. The OKW I have that is only in my name is only 25 points so not much worth selling there and it is grandfathered so it give me blue card status. The other contract I’m on along with my parents who don’t want to do anything with it except use it. They bought it In 1994 for 210 ppoints and have more the gotten their $$ out of it. So that is the one I have access to use points from but not total control to sell or upgrade it lol. And I know you aren’t a Riviera person at all, but it’s what the wife wanted as part of it so Happy wife happy life :). That’s why the split. Also I have already spoken with a lawyer and are setting it up to be titled correctly for estate planning, great minds think alike!

You're already grandfathered, awesome! You have a long view, and I view this as a cool thought exercise, obviously very different than my short term, mercenary considerations.

From the earnings calls, it is clear that Disney has no money and there will be nothing new for a long time. I doubt you want some repurposed Jambo in a couple years. If you like RIV, then I agree that RIV is the best pound for pound point choice, maybe for many years.

But take a decade long view, and this changes. Maybe the new construction then is better, and the game has to be upped after sitting on RIV for so long or there’s a fifth gate or Coronado 2 is walking distance to a water park, or maybe Reflections is coming back, or I can keep going. In that context, buying BR resale looks a lot better, and it’s what you really want. I doubt BR will decline linearly, and I’d think about it even if you have to trade it in ten years from now. Even a pretty steep decline might be worth it to own for a decade. I’d be willing to pay more to enjoy BR for a decade and then reassess.

Locking into AKL direct would be the worst if it ends up you really wanted reflections. At least the resale decision can be reversed without much pain.
