I've been under alot of stress lately. I have just recently had a breast biopsy (results are fine!!) and abnormal pap smear (repeat in 2 months) and for the first time in a LONG time.....the bloat fairy is here!!! Since I have been doing Atkins (on and off for a few years, mainly off) I have not gotten bloated during that time of the month at all.....WELL...........this month is a different story!!! The scale is going up, up, up!!

WE leave in 7 days for WDW and I did not reach my goal. Actually have gained a few lbs. I will be there for just over 2weeks and do not want to balloon out.

Please give me some inspiring stories so I can get back on track and at least maintain while in WDW!!!!

Also, what is the South Beach Diet and is it easier than Atkins???Especially at WDW??

Thanks all, you are all so wonderful and supportive!

Hi Rosemary,

I am glad your biopsy came back good. I had an abnormal pap a few years ago too. I know the bloat fairy just makes you feel horrible, plus that is probably causing you to be "down".

Try to cheer up! After all you are about to go to the HAPPIEST place on earth! :Pinkbounc

Don't stress that you didn't meet your goal. This is a lifestyle change, and it doesn't happen overnight. The great thing is that you are here getting positive thoughts from us instead of giving up! Try not to stress to much while at Disney, just eat healthy, watch your portions and remember that its a vacation. You don't want to stress over every meal while you are there. Stress can actually cause you to retain water. Drink lots of water while you are at disney to keep yourself hydrated and to keep yourself flushed out of any "bloat" while you are there. Sometimes the extra walking can cause "bloat".

I don't know much about the "Southbeach Diet", except that it is low carb with an emphasis on low fat protien.

Remember that you will come out of this healthier, and it takes one step and day at a time. Keep your head up and just think healthier while you are at WDW. There are so many healthy options there.

Good luck, and keep your head up. Maybe try some moderate exercise to get your seratonin levels up during your "time of the month".

{{{{{HUGS}}}}} Rosemary. Glad to hear your biopsy came back OK. Now, go enjoy yourself at WDW, be good to yourself while you are there be eating as healthy as you can, walk a lot, & be sure to say "HI" to Mickey for me. Hopefully you can maintain while you are there, then start fresh when you come home. I find for me that it's good to have a clearly defined starting point so I can't keep telling myself "I'll cheat today & get on track tomorrow". Just make that commitment to yourself, & go for it! You can do it!

Oh, Rosemary!

Sending you a bajillion and one cyber hugs! Glad that your biopsy was clear and I am sure the abnormal pap will be fine when you are retested!!!

You just go and ENJOY that WDW vacation!!! Make sure you drink PLENTY of water while you are down here. Enjoy the sun (and the t-storms) and do lots of walking! Walk, walk, walk as much as you possibly can. Get in the resort pool and kick those legs! :) Make as many healthy choices as you can food wise, but don't beat yourself up if you don't stick 100% to Atkins while you are here.

Before you leave for your trip, write down some promises to yourself and keep this promise sheet handy. Then when you come home read it and remember that YOU are committed to becoming healthier and that you are committed to exercise and loving your body. Instead of thinking, "good food/bad food" think, "What is the BEST food I can put into my body?" and then do that!

Cheer up! All is well! Do you best to make the choices that are right for you between now and your trip and try not to fret too much over what the scale says!

THANK YOU ALL!! It was great waking up this morning reading the replies to my post!!!

I feel better reading all the support from you. Thank you all again.

Rosemary

first things first - Have a super wonderful fantastic time at Disney! Enjoy yourself, it is a vacation!!

Now when you get back and for these few days before you go, remember we are always here for you! Summer is a hard time for me to play on the boards and I'm sure I'm not the only one! We are lurking and reading your posts and our thoughts are with you! You are not alone! I have been slipping and slacking myself this week and lurking is what's keeping me going during this crazy week!

Just wanted you to know others are pulling for you! Sorry I don't know anything about the South Beach Diet, but I will say find a plan that works for you! Base that decision on the lifestyle of the plan, not the results you hope to achieve! You WILL be successful in whatever plan you choose, but you also have to stick to it as much as you can, so make it one that is doable for your life!

Hang in there girlfriend! Come back to WISH and help me stay on track too!

Do you know what that means??? It means have fun- don't worry about the scales- enjoy all the wonder of Disney and the time with your family! :)

Here are some tips that might help.....
1. Chart out an attack plan for when you return- calculate a loss of 1-2 pounds a week and see where you'd be in 3-6 months- actually seeing those lower numbers on paper help motivate me!

2. Order whatever you want at Disney- a trick for me (when eating out) has been to order it all but only eat half of what's on my plate instead of thinking I need to finish that molten lava volcano when I really just wanted a few of the gooey bites in the middle! :)

3. Like TigH and the rest said- you're WALKING alot- drink lots of water and wear comfortable shoes and socks- I'm still amazed when I go to Disney and there are these ladies wearing 3-4 inch heels!! What's up with that???

And what wonderful news on the biopsy- I have had one tumor removed and it was very scary- nothing like a good report to make that trip extra special!! And there are ALOT more false positives than real positives on those pap smears- so don't worry too much now about something in the future.

Have a GREAT trip!!!!
Tara

Hi Rosemary. I don't have any more advice to give you because those before me have given you some awesome stuff to think about.

Congrats on the biopsy report. That is probably the most important thing to remember right now. And Tara's right about the pap smear. And since you are headed back in 2 months, the doctor is on top of it.

Secondly, you ARE going to the happiest place on Earth. Stop and enjoy your family as you go. You are "Making Memories" every step of the way. With all that walking, you'll do fine on the food angle, too, I can just feel it.

As to your plan of attack, when you come back (not now, sweetie), take stock of your goals (take 'em small, one at a time), and choose a plan that you can live with for life. Because that is what this is all about-a life changing and life giving way of living. That may be Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, the Zone, Slim Fast, journalling ( I use Fitday ), or any one of a myriad of diet choices that we have. And that is the key for you-choices!

Enjoy your trip. Hug Mickey for me, and remind him that I will be there before you know it! :)

A Big {HUG} to you Rosemary

I didn't know all that was going on with you(guess I haven't been too good of a pm buddy...sorry). I had a biopsy last year and had a lump out, I'm glad yours was fine! That is definately something to celebrate while at WDW!
You've been under so much stress, I agree with others here...you should just go on vacation and not worry about your diet until you get back! When I go to WDW half the fun is eating what I want, when I want and not feeling guilty about it. Sometimes I gain 10lbs (good thing I don't go that often) When I get home it's back on track again.
I would suggest you just go and have fun and maybe print out some literature to read about each diet to read while your sitting by the pool!
Most Importantly, Have a Great Time...You deserve it!

Rosemary,

The first great step is taking the vacation, they are really a great way to unwind and begin to find a focus. We just returned from 8 days at WDW and it was not as hard as I thought, even though I gained 5lbs. I probably would have gained 10lbs if I just ate as I used to. Drink lots of water, this time of the year is extremely warm. Try to avoid late meals, plan your meals in the evening early and with a light fare. This will help to avoid overstuffing yourself before winding down for the night. Lastly go have a grand time, and remember you are on vacation, a good time to break out of the usual routine. Enjoy :D :D :D

DH & I just started the South Beach diet & Phase one, which lasts for two weeks, is very rigorous. I wouldn't start it as I left for WDW. Wait until you return.
On a positive note, I think you can certainly maintain your weight while on vacation. You'll be getting plenty of exercise from walking (& you could stop at the gym at your hotel). As far as restaurant dining, I used the share method. I never ordered my own appetizer or dessert, but always shared one w/ one or more members of my family. I ate alot of salads & I found that the salads are so good at WDW that I didn't feel deprived. For MK, Columbia House has a great salad w/ grilled chicken & nuts. I get the raspberry dressing on the side.
Don't think about losing weight as a diet that you must start. It is a lifestyle adjustment, which sometimes goes smoothly & sometimes doesn't. I know this advice seems contary to the first sentence of this message, but my whole weight loss story is that I lost 50 lbs. last yr. w/ no real diet, just a food diary, lots of exercise & strong will. The 50 lbs. are still off, but I've stalled in the 170s. DH really wanted to attack his weight while addressing his cholesterol levels. So we're trying So. Beach.

Thank you all for the encouragement and support. I am packing my bags as I am leaving with my 2 younger DD's on Thursday and DH and DD and her friend are meeting us at WDW on Saturday!!

I am hoping to clear my mind, enjoy my family and the magical memories we will be making.

I will concentrate on dieting when I return on august 1!! Until then, I will enjoy.

Thanks and I will send my love to Mickey from all of you!! Hopefully I will be able to check in from time to time with DH's laptop!!

You guys are the best!~~

What everybody else said, Rosemary!!!!

You've got your WHOLE LIFE to work on getting healthier, one little step at a time! Enjoy your vacation and your kiddos. Celebrate your relief at the clean biopsy, and find your "happy place."

We'll whip you into shape when you get back home!;)
