Having points at 2 different resorts? Your thoughts?

Hi everyone! I'm thinking of adding on to the number of points I have now. I currently have 155 at BCV with a Feb. Use Year. I'm thinking of adding points with the same use year at OKW. Here's my question:

How hard is it to manage these points?
If I want to use them all in one vacation, I won't be able to call meber services until 7 months out? Or do I call member services and make the 11 month at BCV and then call back at 7 months and add on? I'm just a little confused.

Any insight you can give as to having points at two different resorts would be great!

Thanks!
Mark

Assuming they fall under one master contract they are easy to manage. The only issue is the 7/11 month window which you seem to have a grasp on already. One of the best ways to handle this situation is to reserve what you can at the 11 months window from each contract. Then try to change over at the 7 month window for what you want to change. For example, you might use the 155 points to reserve a 1 BR 11 months out at the 11 month window and then use the OKW points to reserve the remainder of your planned trip then try to change the OKW reservations to BCV at the 7 month window. You could also bank and borrow with say a BCV trip this year and an OKW trip next year.

If you can buy another contract that is close to the same number of points, this works very well.

Example: You own two contracts...one at BCV and one at OKW. Year 1 you book a full reservation at the 11 month mark at BCV by using all the BCV points and borrowing additional BCV points from the following year.

You then bank your OKW points since you didn't use them this year. Year 2 you book a full reservation at the 11 month mark at OKW by using that year's OKW points plus the points you banked from year 1.

In this way, you can book your entire stay using the 11 month advantage each year.

BTW, our two contracts have different UYs, and it's really not that hard to keep track of them. :)

Same with us. We do the same as Granny has suggested and it really works well (in a manly sort of way);)

Mark (OP, I mean)...sorry for getting this :offtopic:

My biggest thing is to try to reserve the grand villa at okw in 2008 for our 10 year anniversary. You think I'll be able to do this with having points at two different resorts?

It really depends on the time of year. In general, I believe GV's are becomming harder to get inside the 7 month window (not impossible, just harder)...the only real "evidence" to back-up my belief is from perasonal experience. We travel every year at pretty much the same time, middle of June, this is the first year, June '06 (out of 7) that when I called at the 7 month mark there were no GV's available. I guess this could have been an aberation, and maybe it will be just a one year thing, but next month I'm going to call for June of 2007 so I'll let you know then.
But I would guess there are still some times of the year when even at the 7 month window it wouldn't be much of a problem.

If your OKW contract has enough points to add two years together and secure a GV at the 11 month window, then I think you'll be okay using the strategy that Dean and I suggested.

If you would still need your BCV points and hope to finish the reservation at the 7 month window.....I think that's iffy at best and unlikely.

A better strategy might be to transfer the points from an OKW owner for the reservation shortfall so you can book the entire stay at the 11 month window.

What time of year is your anniversary? That will certainly make a huge difference.

Check the Rent/Trade Board for someone with OKW points looking to rent them and able to transfer the points as well. They would simply move the points over to your account and you would then have them available for your own use.

There are lots of threads on renting and transfers. Read up on it a bit before trying it.
