It is a busy week in the OR - this is the only time I can get. I am ready to get it out as I spent 6 hours in the ER with an attack on Christmas day! We are closing on a new house in January and I want to get this behind me so I will feel well and happy moving in!

If I have this done at 3 pm will I really get home that night or will I end up bringing in the new year overnight at the hospital? If it were being done early, I think I would make it home that day, but by the time I have surgery and get out of the recovery room and stay a while afterwards it may be late!

Anybody had gb surgery late in the day and did you still come home that night?

I just had my gallbladder out today. I had an attack the day before Thanksgiving and avoided fatty foods from then until Christmas. It was a lean holiday at my house!

I went in at 6am, surgery started at 8am and I was released by 12:30pm. When is the latest time they release patients at your hospital?

Good luck, Antonia! Hope you have a speedy recovery and congratulations on your new home! :)

Good luck with your surgery. I think you'll make it home before 2010. :thumbsup2

They don't usually keep you very long after a gall bladder removal, as long as you are waking up within a reasonable amount of time, and there are no complications.

I went in to the OR around 7:00 am and was home around noon. So if your's is scheduled for 3:00, I would think you would be home that evening. I don't think most hospitals now days have a specific release time, they can release patients any time of day/night.

Good luck to you!!

Yeah. They don'y like to keep anyone overnight, if they can help it!

With no complications, I believe that you'll be home in the evening.

I had mine out at 3:45 PM and ended up staying overnight, completely unplanned. I was not breathing well coming out of anesthesia. It was a weird complication and I am glad they kept me, however, the plan was for me to go home that night. It is generally an outpatient procedure so you should be fine. Good luck :goodvibes

I had my gallbladder out at 1pm and because I was having trouble with pain management. Because of the pain medication they gave me in recovery, they decided to keep me overnight. I was home by the next morning and only took the good pain killers for a couple of days and then I took advil for a couple more days.

i had my GB out laparoscopically in 1996, and dr. wanted to keep me overnight, but i insisted on going home, so he told me i could, but i had to prove i could walk unassisted, as well as urinate and pass gas. i was home by sunset, lol. good luck with your surgery!

I had my gallbladder removed laparoscopically later in the day, probably around 3pm-ish, and even without complications, they kept me overnight. I was kind of glad because the nurses were wonderful and would help me out of bed to use the bathroom.

OP: Best wishes to you on Thursday for a speedy recovery! :flower3:

I've never had my gall bladder out, but I did have a hysterectomy one week ago today. Mine was definitely an overnight procedure (kind of wish I would have stayed two). From the advice you're getting here, it sounds like it will depend on how well you do in surgery and in the recovery room.

Good luck and get well soon!

I had mine out about 4 years ago and they kept me overnight. I felt ok and could've come home that night though. Good luck!

When I had my gallbladder out right before Christmas 2004, I was checked in to the hospital at 7AM and I did not leave the hospital until 7PM that night.

Barring any complications, your ins. company will really push for you to be released - regardless of the time it's all said and done..

Good luck with the surgery - and congrats on your new home! :goodvibes

Well it's over!!! I went into surgery at 3 pm, came out of surgery at 5 pm, went to recovery and at 7:30 pm my DH helped me dress. By 8:30 pm I was resting in my own bed!!!!

No nausea and very little pain! But I am sore as all get out!!

I'm glad everything went well for you!!! Glad you are resting at home now.

Hope you feel better soon! One thing to remember: your insides will heal slower than your outsides, so DON'T overdo it! I had mine out last December and got a bit to overzealous and had a bit of a setback. Rest, rest, rest!!

Wow, great news! That's amazing! I'm trying to remember when my father had his out...might've been before I had kids? (so over 21 years ago)...he was in for days.

Feel better soon!

I am scheduled to have mine out on January 29th.

The surgeon did tell me that, following surgery, he want me up and walking some everyday to help prevent blood clots -- not to just go home and go to bed. So keep moving.
