Having Multiple Home Resorts

Yes-we always split stays with BLT and BCV eliminating most buses and just enjoying those 2 locations.

We agree with jade1, staying in a resort near the parks or attractions you plan to visit on your WDW vacation (even if you do split stays) is the way to go. If you do have to use a bus to get around it is a short ride in most cases.
We own and stay in VWL when we want to concentrate on the MK area attractions, we own and stay in AKVs when we want to concentrate on AK and BB, and we own and stay in OKW. OKW is centrally located so transportation is quick in most cases and when we take family or friends it is perfect because of the LARGE rooms.

I noticed during the web cast yesterday that the verbiage used by Disney when talking about home resort advantage does not mention 11 months. That makes me think that someday that number might change.

Do many of you have multiple home resorts? We only own at BLT right now, but are considering another contract. We don't like to travel during the peak season's so We haven't had a problem booking at the 7 month mark. My only thought is what if down the road, they change the 7 month mark window and reduce it to 6 months or less, or even remove it and say you need to stay only at your home resort. What are your thoughts on an additional contract purchase, and picking a different home resort?????

We have multiple resorts and use the borrow and bank method to rotate where we stay. This way I can stay where I want, when I want. We enjoy many reports so I like trying them all.

We have multiple home resorts and until this year, everything has always worked out for us. We often need more than one villa and I have enough points to book a 2 bedroom, a Beach Cottage, or most of what we need at 11 months out. This year our family moved, so Spring plans changed drastically!I have HHI points without plans to go to HHI and so I've been booking more things than ever at 7 months. I have been very lucky, but still have a total of 13 days, not consecutive, that I still have to book for January stays. Another "problem" (other than the HHI/VB Spring breaks that weren't) is that I have decided to spend January in Florida using DVC points, and in all of my (myriad) planning scenerios, that was never an option. This year I had an operation in January and didn't work for the winter quarter, and liked the idea of not commuting in snow/ice so much that I have decided to at least take next January off.

So, for all of the planning that I did, years in advance, I find myself doing something I never dreamed of doing until DH and I BOTH were retired. It's been a challenge to do what I want and still maintain a fair number of specific home resort points for '12 use. We have a March UY, so January booking was definitely NOT something we planned to do when we first purchased.

I saw someone mention before that when DVC started there was some rule that owners were required to stay at their home resort at least once every other year. That was not a rule. As a practicable matter they had to go every other year because otherwise points would be lost, i.e., you can only bank points into one successive year, and there really was no easy way to find people to rent points to -- we were still waiting to a great extent for Al Gore to invent the internet. Moreover, unless they traded out of DVC, they had to go to OKW (called the Disney Vacation Club at the time) because it was the only DVC resort that existed.

I'm so glad someone pointed this out! We purchased our original contract back in December of 1991, so have been a part of this wonderful vacation club for a loooong time! There was never a rule that owners had to stay every other year. However, as a practical matter [as Drusba has pointed out], we did need to use our annual allotment of points, bank them by a certain date (based on use year), or lose them....you get really good at the banking and borrowing process after a few years!

I own at AKV and BWV. I first bought at AKV because I am a huge animal lover and knew that AKV would be my favorite resort because I'd be able to sit on my balcony and watch the animals.

DH and I just went to our first Food and Wine Festival last year and knew that we'd like to attend again often in the future. I wanted to be able to book at an Epcot area resort 11 months in advance. I prefer BWV to BCV and so I ended up buying resale at BWV.

I think if I were to add on in the future (which won't be anytime soon since we already have plenty of points for a couple with no children), I'd probably add on at AKV or BWV. I love having my two home resorts, but don't think I need to own at any others.

We own at SSR and VGC. Started out with SSR and attempted to use those points to book VGC. We live in SoCal, so we use VGC more for long weekends. After several unsuccessful 7 month calls, we decided that we needed VGC points. Added on 2 contracts with our grown DDs added to the contracts.
