Hi guys!! I was out all afternoon.
We met Jojo's teacher & she seems VERY nice and sweet. I think it's gonna be a good one.
Then the girls and I ran errands.
Annette....rigid just means that it cannot be folded up and hidden basically. BUT....Lucy is just really dead set against using a white cane...she says the school is familiar to her etc...and she doesn't need it. OK. Also, I think a big part of the problem and really the major hurdle is the self consciousness. She said people will see that white cane and make a judgment on WHO she is based on that. She said kids talk down to her like she's stupid and it insults her. They see the white cane and automatically think she's ********. (sorry to offend anybody but that's what she said and they treat her like they think that)
FWIW..Lucy is high honor roll, over achiever kid and she tries sooo hard at everything she does. To have other kids think she's stupid is just crushing to her.
Middle school just sucks. It's a tough age. I am willing to cave on this one. She is legally blind & the white cane definitely helps her but if she is THAT upset about using it at school I am going to have to just go with it I think. We had a long talk after she got home today and I just really want a happy kid.
THAT IS AWESOME ABOUT YOUR DH working at the Chicago Merc Exchange!!! Whoohooo!!!! YES...if you are planning a trip out here you have to let us know. We can meet up somewhere.
I got a call from Kelly.
She said she wanted me to mention that she won dream fast passes in MK!!!
She is having a BLAST but it's down pouring there now BIG TIME. She went to Typhoon Lagoon and had a great sunny day and they left just in time. She checks into the GF RPC tomorrow!
Hope everybody had a good day!!! Dawn....wondering how your day went.
Talk to ya later!

Middle school does stink! Kids can be so mean!! It sounds like you are doing what's best for her and you can't ask for more than that!

Oh it was great..and the kids (5th graders) were fab! I think this is what they call the "honeymoon phase"
I really felt like a teacher when they they wanted to know about Mrs. Student Teacher! Also when they wanted ME to sign their papers. No teaching yet...just getting to know you activities
I'll have to jump in next week cause I have an observation in two weeks from my supervisor!

My friend saw him last fall at F&W and said he was REALLY good & a great performer.
Hopefully that 's the way it goes. MS years are just maybe tough. It's a rough age.
. I'm sure things will work out, although I know it must be hard on her, especially at this age. I agree kids can be jerks
. But it sounds like she has a good group of friends for support
. Way to go
. I'm in NW Indiana not too far from the city or the suburbs. I actually grew up in Munster which is just over the IN/IL border
. Years ago my DH (wasn't my DH just yet back then
. I've never been to a meet, but they sound fun
) I thought kids were mean, but today the kids are just downright HORRIBLE
. The way some kids treat their classmates (as well as teachers) is just unbelievable......it's quite sad, actually
? TIA
I know kinda what you mean about the other kids treating her like she is dumb. The HS I went to has a great hearing impaired program and matches up a hearing impaired student with a hearing student and I was matched up with girl named Krissy my sophomore year. I made good grades and knew sign so I was nominated, interviewed, and asked to be her partner. Basically I took notes on carbon paper and would help her but she had a interpreter and could speak. Kids would like yell at her and it was annoying, like she could hear. She is like Marley Matlin read lips and could speak. We had a lot of fun in chemistry, LOL! She was a fun person and could dance, AMAZING DANCER, she was on the dance team that dances at football games and pep rallys! So good! We were great friends and she was even in my wedding.
. I keep telling DH it may be time for me to get a job
