Hi guys!! I was out all afternoon. :goodvibes We met Jojo's teacher & she seems VERY nice and sweet. I think it's gonna be a good one.:thumbsup2

Then the girls and I ran errands.

Annette
....rigid just means that it cannot be folded up and hidden basically. BUT....Lucy is just really dead set against using a white cane...she says the school is familiar to her etc...and she doesn't need it. OK. Also, I think a big part of the problem and really the major hurdle is the self consciousness. She said people will see that white cane and make a judgment on WHO she is based on that. She said kids talk down to her like she's stupid and it insults her. They see the white cane and automatically think she's retarded. (sorry to offend anybody but that's what she said and they treat her like they think that):guilty: FWIW..Lucy is high honor roll, over achiever kid and she tries sooo hard at everything she does. To have other kids think she's stupid is just crushing to her. :headache: Middle school just sucks. It's a tough age. I am willing to cave on this one. She is legally blind & the white cane definitely helps her but if she is THAT upset about using it at school I am going to have to just go with it I think. We had a long talk after she got home today and I just really want a happy kid.

THAT IS AWESOME ABOUT YOUR DH working at the Chicago Merc Exchange!!! Whoohooo!!!! YES...if you are planning a trip out here you have to let us know. We can meet up somewhere.:thumbsup2

I got a call from Kelly. :thumbsup2 She said she wanted me to mention that she won dream fast passes in MK!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: She is having a BLAST but it's down pouring there now BIG TIME. She went to Typhoon Lagoon and had a great sunny day and they left just in time. She checks into the GF RPC tomorrow!:goodvibes

Hope everybody had a good day!!! Dawn....wondering how your day went.:surfweb:

Talk to ya later!
Chan

Hi Girls!!

Channing - sorry to hear about Lucy! :grouphug: Middle school does stink! Kids can be so mean!! It sounds like you are doing what's best for her and you can't ask for more than that!

Dawn - I bet you rocked today! Let us know how it went!

Well, my kids started school too - I hate the early mornings! Can't wait till they're off next Monday for Labor Day! LOL! Off to check on homework - can you believe they have homework ALREADY! :sad2:

OMG - I watched David Cassidy on Oprah today!! Brought back some memories of my fiirst concert and my Keith Partridge obsession!
My kids were like " You liked HIM?"

I DID IT!!! My first day in the classroom! :cool1: Oh it was great..and the kids (5th graders) were fab! I think this is what they call the "honeymoon phase" :rotfl2: I really felt like a teacher when they they wanted to know about Mrs. Student Teacher! Also when they wanted ME to sign their papers. No teaching yet...just getting to know you activities ;) I'll have to jump in next week cause I have an observation in two weeks from my supervisor!:scared1:

Chan...sorry about Lucy....its so hard to be a middle schooler let alone just a little different. Hopefully everything gets worked out with her vision itinerant.

Mickeynut...where are you in IL...let us know so you can get in on our IL meets :goodvibes

Annette...def come with your DH and we can set up a time to meet...FUN!

WOOHOO for Kelly! Dang I hope I get some pixie dust...:wizard:

Chillin for the night! Dawn:upsidedow

Dawn! YAY!! That sounds like it was an awesome day!:cool1: :cool1: Wow...sign their papers?!? Like they wanted your autograph?:rotfl: Rock star, you.:goodvibes

I hear ya about the chillin'.....I got up early today (6:45) to make sure Lucy was ready to get picked up by her vision itinerant...and OMG....she SAID 8:30 am but she called at 8:05 to apologize for being LATE.:rotfl: She said she's like 5 min away!!! PANIC!!!! So it's been a LONG day. I am just mushy headed about now. It takes a whiile to get back into the early morning swing of things......I walked with my dysfunctional neighbor this morning, too. Yep...back to the old norm. I thought of you when I saw David Cassidy. He is a NICE guy. :) My friend saw him last fall at F&W and said he was REALLY good & a great performer.:goodvibes

Ya...kids can be jerks. I hope it all works out. She has a good group of friends and the principal and teachers all really like her so that helps, too, as far as her confidence.

Princesses....what grade is your DD in? Lucy is in 7th. MS was hard on DS, too, and once he got into HS he just fit right in. :confused3 Hopefully that 's the way it goes. MS years are just maybe tough. It's a rough age.

Well.....I switched my SWA flight from a MOnday afternoon to the Sun eve before and we don't arrrive in MCO til midnight. It was the same price but it's only 11 pm our time and heaven knows we are night owls so it's all cool....now we are doing a 3/3 split Swan/GFRPC....unless I change my mind again.:rotfl2: It could happen.......I have a 2/4 in my head but we do really enjoy the BW area esp in the eveinings...with the YC movies on the beach and the fun on the BW......but how can I miss out on my GF??? Decisions decisions..... AND I am kinda torqued because I see that the MK closes at 7 pm almost every darn night of our trip due to the MNSSHP!!!:headache: OK..once or twice..yay. I would go join the fun but almost every night?!?!?!?!?! SUcko.

Talk to ya all later....here's to another great day tomorrow!:thumbsup2

Channing - DS is my one in MS. He fits in well - he plays sports so I think that helps him. But I hear/see some of the crap that goes on with some kids.... :sad2:

I remember MS: Not fun. The kids were so horrible to each other, just nasty mean. My Mom is a MS teacher and she says that some of them are just :scared:

Dawn, glad you had a great first day!

Channing, it sounds like you made the right decision. Kids can be so cruel, unfortunately. If she really dosen't feel she needs it, she would probably resent you for making her use it, and think about that every time someone picked on her. She sounds like a really fantastic kid!

Good Morning all :). Well, another school day is upon us.....hope things went well for everyone this morning :goodvibes.

Lives4Disney ~ So sorry to hear about your DD :sad2:. Middle school does suck!!!! But it sounds like you're doing everything you can to help her :flower3:. I'm sure things will work out, although I know it must be hard on her, especially at this age. I agree kids can be jerks . But it sounds like she has a good group of friends for support :). Good luck and try not to worry too much....things always have a way of working out :grouphug:.

tinklvr ~ YAY for a great first day :cool1: :cool1:. Glad things went well and you enjoyed it :flower3:. And I'm sure you'll do just fine in 2 weeks for the observation with your supervisor :teacher:. Way to go :cheer2: :cheer2:.

And as to where I am........I live in Indiana.....yep, I'm a Hoosier :rolleyes1. I'm in NW Indiana not too far from the city or the suburbs. I actually grew up in Munster which is just over the IN/IL border :yay:. Years ago my DH (wasn't my DH just yet back then ) lived in Wheaton and I was up there all the time....so I know the Wheaton/Naperville/Oak Brook area pretty well :goodvibes. And I get to Schaumburg atleast once or twice a year, so I'm kinda familiar up there . I've never been to a meet, but they sound fun :).

I hope everyone has a great day today....only 3 more days after today and it's the weekend again:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:.....and a 3 day weekend at that   !!!!

Channing - I am sorry I didn't ask my question well. I was wondering why would she need to change from foldable to rigid white? I know they difference, I just don't see why she can't use what she likes? Does the rigid white cane help more?

I have to post again!! I just read about Dawn's day!!!

:woohoo: :woohoo: I knew you would love it and they would love you!!!:woohoo: :woohoo:

OK!! You girls are on, I'll let you know when the next trip to Chicago is and as long as it works with the kids staying home with Grandma....I am there!!

I remember MS: Not fun. The kids were so horrible to each other, just nasty mean. My Mom is a MS teacher and she says that some of them are just :scared:

I'm always telling DH that back in our day (showing my age :lmao:) I thought kids were mean, but today the kids are just downright HORRIBLE . The things that go on today would never had gone on when we were in school :sad2:. Kids are so disrespectful and rude today that I just sit in disbelief sometimes . The way some kids treat their classmates (as well as teachers) is just unbelievable......it's quite sad, actually :sad2:.

Silly question.........how do I delete a post that posted twice :confused3? I know how to "edit", but didn't know if there was a way to totally get rid of the duplicate ? TIA :flower3:.

Morning all~ :goodvibes

Dawn ~ So glad your first day was great! Here to a great YEAR~ :flower3:

Channing ugh..... middle school, just thinking about it is horrible. You all know I have super curly hair, my mom made me chop it off and I looked like a chia pet.... all frizz no curl! Pair it up with pizza face acne and those were some fun years!

I hope Lucy has a great year. I know kinda what you mean about the other kids treating her like she is dumb. The HS I went to has a great hearing impaired program and matches up a hearing impaired student with a hearing student and I was matched up with girl named Krissy my sophomore year. I made good grades and knew sign so I was nominated, interviewed, and asked to be her partner. Basically I took notes on carbon paper and would help her but she had a interpreter and could speak. Kids would like yell at her and it was annoying, like she could hear. She is like Marley Matlin read lips and could speak. We had a lot of fun in chemistry, LOL! She was a fun person and could dance, AMAZING DANCER, she was on the dance team that dances at football games and pep rallys! So good! We were great friends and she was even in my wedding.

How cool Kelly got the dream FP!:wizard: I have NEVER gotten anything in all the times I have been the past two year! :confused3

I have to tell you all I had a crazy day yesterday. My kids went out side and I turned on the bubble machine and they went CRAZY running after them. I re potted a plant and got bit by something and now have a huge thing on my hand. Last night at 9:30 I was trying to get something from behind the bookcase in my kitchen and moved it slightly and a huge platter on top that I LOVE and collect fell and hit me on the head and broke into 3 pieces. Ugh, i have a cut on my scalp that bleed like crazy and then cuts on both my forearms. Both arms have big band aids, it looks like I tried to cut my wrist, and my head has a goose egg! Thank goodness this all happened 5 min before my DH got home from school but then he got home i was still sitting on the kitchen floor and he freaked. There was so much blood on my face and arms he freaked out and though I had been attacked and was like WHAT HAPPENED? I am so mad and began to cry when I told him my Gail Pitman platter broke :sad1:

I can not bend over today without my head throbbing. Makes laundry fun to do. :headache: :laundy:

The craziest thing is I sat down on a chair on our patio this weekend and it broke and I fell back and hit my head, upper back and my leg got really bruised up. I am a mess ya'll, I look like I have been in a kick boxing match. :scared1:

ETA: Forgot to mention the best part DD4 stepped on a sharred of glass and cuter foot AND her toe..... Poor baby!

Silly question.........how do I delete a post that posted twice :confused3? I know how to "edit", but didn't know if there was a way to totally get rid of the duplicate ? TIA :flower3:.

um i would just go and edit it and erase it all and write double post..... I don't think you can get the post deleted with out a moderator.

I was thinking of doing that because I have seen that on other threads....just didn't know if that's what's done or if there was a way to delete it completely.....THANKS :goodvibes.

Also...hope you're feeling better after all you've been through yesterday and over the weekend . And sorry about your collection platter....that stinks :sad1:. I hope you're DD's foot/toe is better....poor thing.

Mandy, It sound slike you had a horrible day!

I had/have the poufy hair too! My mom though a short cut with a perm (to "tame" the frizzy curls) would be a great solution.

It wasn't!

I think I am scarred for life from that, especially since she did it while I was in middle school!

NO WAY! The place my mom took me to for my hair permed it probably 5-6 times as a kid. Same reason to tame the curls..... made it worse and I looked like a poodle. Seriously it ruined my hair then! I hate that salon and wont even take my kids there for a trim!

Mandy ~ so sorry to hear about your horrible day. Why is it that some days you can't even get out of your own way?

morning all!! (or I guess I need to say AFTERNOON!:lmao: )

OK...thanks everybody for your kind words and advice with Lucy and her white cane......Annette...really no different but the mobility teacher wants her to use it more and figured a rigid white cane would be really out there and no hiding it. As much as I like and respect her I think maybe that's just a bit to harsh. I talked on the phone this morn to DD's new Braille teacher and she agreed it's probably the best thing to just let DD play the whole white cane thing by ear for now. DD is super familiar with the school at this point and feels comfortable. The teacher said some adults don't use their white cane all the time, even.:confused3 News to me. I figured if ya need it, you use it.:confused3 :confused3

Mandy that is really cool about you working with Krissy. I am MAD, too....because in DS's first year of MS (he has ADHD - NOT hyper but extremely spacy and other issues:rolleyes: ....but never behavior or anything) and I asked the VP of that school ( who is no longer there YAY) about something like that for HIM...and she told me it would infringe on the other student's civil rights.:headache: :rolleyes1 That woman was a FREAK of mega proportions. That is just a sample of the imbecilic stuff she said to me over the course of his 3 yrs there. I went into this school thinking HORRIBLY about it but found out that twit was no longer there.:thumbsup2

And, Mandy, I am sooo sorry you hurt yourself so badly! OMG...and about your pretty platter.:guilty: Can you at least glue it together? Maybe it's never useable again but it can still LOOK nice?? I hope there is some down time today for you to rest.

Dawn...have a great second day!:goodvibes

Mickeynut
....Dawn is from that familiar area.:thumbsup2 I used to live out there before moving back up north. :)

I cannot believe Kel, Shel, M, and Linda are all now at the GF! I do hope they've met up.:)

Talk to ya all later,

Channing :)

Lives4Disney ~ Glad to see your DD is going to play everything by ear and take it a little at a time, especially if she's very familiar with the school and feels comfortable :).

And yes....it is afternoon :rotfl:....and I don't know where the day has gone . I'm home all day today and have been getting on the computer between doing laundry, ironing, and a little cleaning :crazy2:. I keep telling DH it may be time for me to get a job :scared1: because I can't stay off the Dis :rotfl: :rotfl:. But I don't know how I'd manage since I've been a SAHM for soooo long.....don't know how I'd function in the work place without being able to chat here on the Dis whenever I wanted :lmao: :lmao:. Some things just aren't meant to change :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:.
