Hi. I'm new here. Well, not new. I've been watching you all for over a year. Freaked out? Don't be. I'm (relatively) harmless. I discovered the DIS while planning our Disney trip last spring, and was immediately hooked on the dining board. Because, you see, I love to eat. I like everything about food--shopping for it, cooking it, making reservations for it. And I love Disney. What better thing than telling a bunch of like minded people all about the Disney meals I eat??

So here I am, coming out of the kitchen closet, if you will. My DD, her BF and I are planning a return visit right at the beginning of 2013, because we had such a good time last March. Who are this 'we'?

Me- Joyce. I'm a, ahem, mature woman, who basically is still 15 in her mind. I've lived lots of places (now in the Chicago suburbs), but particularly Southern California during junior high and high school. Disneyland looms large in my legend. My beloved choir teacher was a Dapper Dan at D-Land, so we got to sing lots and lots at holiday events. My friends and I could hang out there for hours (mind you, this was when you paid for rides and got in for practically nothing). We liked to dance to the big bands at the Carnation Plaza Gardens, make out on the Monsanto Adventure Thru Inner Space ride, eat popcorn and corn dogs--and ultimately go to Grad Night. Let's just say I know the Magic Kingdom at WDW like the back of my hand. Food wise, I'll try anything, but you must know I still miss the tamales at Casa de Fritos. Trip number 6 to the World for me.

DD- Katy, 22. Perhaps the funniest, wiser person I know. She's studying to be a church worker, but still can bring the snark (hence the title). I weaned her on "Sing Along Songs", so she loves her some Disney. She has very definite ideas of what she wants to do and what she'll eat. She's somewhat adventurous, and wants to "Drink Around the World" this time. Knowing her, she'll be done by her second fun cocktail. Third trip to WDW.

DD's BF- David, 19 (yes, it's a May/December relationship). A sweet kid. Goes along with everything. We call him our "Disney Magnet" because cast members always hone in on him. It might be his wild hair and beard, it might be his sunny disposition. We went to Monsters Inc Laugh Floor three times and he got picked on every single time. David is a burger/beef/fries guy. I've never seen him eat a vegetable. Or a fruit (no, wait, he likes pineapple). Or beans. "Star Wars" freak, second trip to WDW.

This is the second trip for the three of us. Last year we stayed offsite, rented a car, and went to Universal for two days. This time, we're staying onsite and going DDP. I, for one, am excited beyond belief!

I'd love to tell you where we're staying and when, but right when I thought I had Jan 1-8 booked at Little Mermaid, the Disney Visa Rewards promo came out. LM is not included, and the promo starts on the 2nd. So things are up in the air until my travel agent crunches some numbers.

Likewise, my ADRs/counter service meals are up in the air. I play with them daily, it seems. So far, we're eating at (in no particular order):

-The Plaza Inn
-Les Chefs de France
-'50s Prime Time Cafe (this stays, no matter what. This was "Sparky"'s (aka David) favorite place. He didn't even mind drinking his bottomless Coke from a pitcher and strung together straws.
-1900 Park Fare (it was dinner last trip, breakfast this time)
-O'hana
-Sci-Fi Dine-In
-Le Cellier
-Wolfgang Puck Express
-Earl of Sandwich
-Be Our Guest (lunch)

Everything's new except for Prime Time and 1900 Park Fare.

And there you have it. I'll update with pictures, etc once I get my travel plans more...concrete.

If you have any suggestions or secrets or slushies to share with me, bring it on!!!:goodvibes

So, just a little update:

We are now booked from Jan 2-9, pushing everything a day later. We are staying at the POFQ. (Pardon a little squee over two sinks, a boat to DTD, and handy access to beignets!)

Plaza Inn is out for the 1st (obviously), and I am Mickey Waffling over getting rid of Le Cellier for something else.

DD is in permament eye roll mode over all my changes so far. But it's for her OWN GOOD!! ;)

Sounds like an exciting trip with plenty of dining adventures! Glad that you came out of the kitchen closet (loved that!)

I will be following along! :thumbsup2

BTW: My DH is from the Chicago burbs (Aurora/Batavia area) and now lives in So CA so the similarity caught my eye! :)

Taking a break from my lunchtime ADR changing....

My DH is from the Chicago burbs (Aurora/Batavia area) and now lives in So CA so the similarity caught my eye!

One of my good friends/former bandmate lives in Aurora. That area is growing! I'm farther north--up by O'Hare Airport (which we will not be flying out of !)

Where in SoCal?

Funny, this shows an update on 11/6, but in the middle of posting, I ended up with a nasty virus and only the thread title got changed!!

Anyhoo, we're 59 days out. I'm sooo excited. And maybe I finally have my ADRs set. Maybe. But here they are, as they say in the Miss America pageant, in no particular order. Only 50s and Crystal Palace are true repeats.
Bear in mind as well that we kind of love character meals, even at our advanced ages. :rolleyes1

1900 Park Fare- breakfast. We did dinner here last year, and loved the characters! We're big Alice/Pooh/Poppins fans, so this was a no-brainer. And lobster eggs benedict? Bring it!

'Ohana- dinner. The daughter's BF loves him some Texas de Brazil unlimited meat, we all love potstickers and I've heard here and there :rotfl2: that the bread pudding is good.

50's Prime Time Cafe- lunch. Snark and fried chicken. A lovely combo.

Mama Melrose's - lunch. Fantasmic! package.

Flying Fish Cafe- um, late. This is my big splurge. I just want apps and dessert and I'm paying for it OOP. Let's get specific about my wants. I want a cheese plate and the "Trio of Concession Sweets". And some wine.

Crystal Palace- linner. It's Pooh! And Eeyore! And Tigger! And the rest! (Just like Gilligan's Island, Piglet becomes like the Professor and Maryann. Love you, Piglet!)

Les Chefs des France-dinner. Because I want to.

Garden Grill- dinner. To scratch my daughter's major Chip 'n' Dale itch. Please don't be surprised if you see pictures of her and Chip in Vegas being hitched by an Elvis impersonator. It's that bad.

Other meals will be counter service. Kids aren't big breakfast people, so probably not much there. I want to do Wolfgang Puck's, DD wants to try for BOG at lunch, and otherwise, I'll try to relax and let them choose a couple of places. This may be hard.

So, there it is. I'm obsessed with jabead's LIVE thread and pretty much everyone else's dining reports, so that makes the waiting a little ok

Less than two months, baby!!

Sorry for not seeing this sooner... been spending time with my son/DIL and was in Vegas all last week on business.

My husband was born in Geneva, grew up in Aurora, and graduated from Batavia HS. We usually stay at the Hampton Inn in North Aurora at the 88 and Orchard Road. We have family in Warrenville, Joliet, Amboy, North Aurora, and several other burb cities. We actually looked at purchasing a home and renting it out to family there but decided that is a great way to create family rifts! ;)

I've lived in OC, Ca my whole life - I live in Costa Mesa across from Back Bay Newport Beach. It really is a small world sometimes. :)

I love the characters here! I've not had dinner but we did have breakfast a couple times.

'Ohana- dinner. The daughter's BF loves him some Texas de Brazil unlimited meat, we all love potstickers and I've heard here and there :rotfl2: that the bread pudding is good.
This is now one of my new favorites dinners - especially the potstickers and the bread pudding! Yum!

50's Prime Time Cafe- lunch. Snark and fried chicken. A lovely combo.
Great description!

Mama Melrose's - lunch. Fantasmic! package.
Good entrees, ok desserts, nice way to reserve F!

This is on my list to try one day! Looking forward to hearing how you like it.

Crystal Palace- linner. It's Pooh! And Eeyore! And Tigger! And the rest! (Just like Gilligan's Island, Piglet becomes like the Professor and Maryann. Love you, Piglet!)
I'm a piglet lover! One day we will have to try lunch or dinner since I'm a huge fan of their breakfast.

Les Chefs des France-dinner. Because I want to.

:thumbsup2

I should have stayed in Vegas longer - that would definitely be something to see. I hear they don't like to be called gophers! :p

How exciting that you have less than 2 months! :goodvibes

We are going from 12/29-1/7 and from Darien, not too far from you!! I hope this is the fastest 44 days ever!!!

I've lived in OC, Ca my whole life - I live in Costa Mesa across from Back Bay Newport Beach. It really is a small world sometimes. :)

Isn't it? My jr high and high school years were in Los Alamitos, and I attended HS in LaPalma, where my Dapper Dan music teacher taught us all about barbershop singing as well as Disney!

I know! We are SO excited! Great to see a fellow Illinoisian (is that a word?) here. And you'll be there for New Years' Eve..how fun! Where are you staying, etc?

Well, I almost changed ADRs last night. Not the actual restaurants, but the timing of some of them. I thought I was missing some EMRs with my resort evening choices, but then I decided I had done okay with my choices. It was close, though! :rolleyes1

So, according to Disney's website, I have 11 days until my vacation .

I can hardly believe that in less than 2 weeks I will be in the world of caramel, cupcakes, cocktails, and yes, Mickey!!

My daughter and I spent last night watching various 'behind the scenes' videos of WDW. We could not be more excited.

I'm also excited because I'm going to be a Live Reporter on jabead's amazing "Coming To You Live" thread! (Luckily, I've warned everyone that there will be food pictures taken. Aside from an epic eyeroll from Katy, I think we're cool.)

My ADRs are set, and some of them are different from what I originally listed.
Here's what we're planning:

Raglan Road
1900 Park Fare- character breakfast
'Ohana
50s Prime Time Cafe
Mama Melrose (Fantasmic! package)
Crystal Palace- dinner
Les Chefs de France
Garden Grill

Nothing too gourmet, but fun meals for all of us. The kids can pick out the counter service meals. I know DD will want Be Our Guest and David will want Yak and Yeti, so I won't be disappointed. I just hope I can make my updates as entertaining as some of the legendary posters here!

I finally figured out how to post pictures, so here we are.

And I think I must have the Disney Fever. I am also in the process of planning a May trip to my beloved Disneyland and Southern California!!!

I blame you all. ;)

We are staying at 3 different resorts! 1st night at AoA in a LM room, next 2 nights at BCV for New Years Eve (BCV is where we spent our honeymoon and NYE is our 10-year anniversary :)) and the last 6 nights at AKV. We have the following ADRs booked:
Biergarten
San Angel Inn
Rose & Crown Pub
Ohana
T-REX
50's Prime Time
Kona Cafe (Breakfast)
Via Napoli
and we plan on doing BOG for lunch.

I really tried to book restaurants we've never tried together before (with the exception of Kona Cafe and Ohana- our faves). One week from today!! Have an amazing Disney New Year Vacation! I hope we don't have any problems with snow on our airport day in Chicago!

Yay - 11 days!!!! How exciting! I will look forward to your live reports as well.

And D-land in March - you really do have the fever! :lmao:

subscribing. Looking forward to this, esp Garden Grill. It was on my must-do list, but at the last minute I wound up picking Jiko instead. But I moved Le Cellier to lunch so now I have a free dinner slot. Maybe I will try for Garden Grill.

Jenna, that's exciting!! AOA was on my short list, but it wasn't covered by the Stay, Play, and Dine promo I got.

Well, I love Rose and Crown, so I'm envious of that. And of NYE in the World.
Have a WONDERFUL trip! We'll compare notes (and hopefully not get delayed by crazy winter weather in Chi-town)! :thumbsup2

I think so, we're feeling it! And D-Land is May. March is...Vegas. I'm determined to travel this year, can you tell!?:rotfl:

Oh, Jiko will be cool, too. I just have one very unadventurous eater on my hands, Katy's BF. We were talking about it today--he only eats certain things, but what he does eat, he's very un-picky about. Yeah. :confused3
