Kids will be just 4 and just 5 in October when we go. Both are under 40 lbs. I own two umbrella strollers, which the kids don't like to be in for very long (they never have been comfortable in there, and now that they are bigger)....and they really enjoyed the double we rented last year. We are also pretty sure that some of the parks (MK in particular) we may get by strollerless. Price is not an issue - but I am NOT buying another stroller for four and five year old children.

So, has anyone taken their umbrellas for the airport, trip back to the hotel (we are staying at BWVs, so I can imagine a couple of walks back to the hotel with sleepy kids), etc. -- and stashed them in a locker for the day and rented Disney strollers? How did it work?

We have twin boys that were almost 5 when we went in Nov. For that trip we discovered that we forgot our umbrella strollers when we got to the airport. I was freaking out but the boys kept asking "why do we need a stroller? We don't use a stroller?" They did a GREAT job! We did rent a double stroller once near the end of the trip because they fell asleep on the bus from the BWV to the MK and they are GRUMPY when they are woken up! The cool thing was that we rented it in MK, saw the parade and then turned it in. We rode the monorail to EPCOT and then picked up a stroller there. This was wonderful because it is a LONG walk thru EPCOT to the exit for our hotel. We dropped the stroller off at this exit, got our refund, and walked to BWV.

I think you will be fine renting a stroller when you need to. We did not have a problem getting the kids to the parks from BWV. The walk to EPCOT from the BWV is very short if you use the little gate instead of walking back thru the BC lobby. For MGM we took the boat which was fine. The other two parks we took the busses.

We actually liked not having our strollers with us on the transportation because it can be a real pain trying to fold up the two strollers and get everyone on the bus.

The lockers are big enough to put 2 strollers in???

An umbrella stroller will hold a four or five year old? I always thought they were for smaller kids. Can you manuever a stroller like that with a 35-40lb child in it? Just curious, as I'm having a hard time finding a stroller that will actually move with my son in it. I've tried Peg Perego, Kolcraft, Graco and have had no luck. He weighs about 37 lbs and the things are just ridiculously hard to manuever!

Apparently, you can check things that won't fit. I'm thinking about it and I think all the lockers are those square kind, but we could check them.

And people put bigger kids in umbrella strollers. Weight limit on mine is 35 lbs - so I shouldn't put my 36 and 38 lb kids in there. They are always a bear to push - but its easier than carrying your kids.

But I think I'll try it without the umbrellas. My son is a walker, and should do fine and my daughter may do better than I think.
