Not sure how to handle the flying situation now that I'm an adult and dealing with the situation myself!
DH is a little afraid to fly..what can be done to calm his nerves before we fly out in July?
Also, I know to pack shampoo, etc in my checked baggage so we don't have to put it in 3 oz containers.
What isn't allowed in a carry on? Can we take pbj sandwiches since we will be flying during lunch?
What about taking drinks on the plane? I thought I read somewhere that I can buy drinks in the secure area of the airport and take them on the flight, but not bring my own. Is that correct?

Thanks a lot!

What exactly is your husband nervous about? Feeling unprepared? Afraid to fly? Claustrophobia? Depends what he's worried over.

Check out TSA.GOV - it outlines what can and can't be taken in your carryon.

You can bring a PBJ Sandwich through security and eat it in the terminal or on the plane. (Cue peanut parents).

You can not bring drinks from home through security. You can buy a drink in the airport post-security and bring it on the airplane. You can also bring an empty drink bottle through security and fill it at a fountain after security.

If you are flying through Pittsburgh, there's a Rite Aid in the Airside terminal. 99 cent water FTW!

Just remember no liquids in your carry on over 3.4 oz. Anything in small containers have to be in a 1 quart bag.

Don't worry about the flying part. Airports and airplanes are the coolest thing. I love flying and airports. My entire family loves getting to the airport early to watch people, planes, etc......

Relax and enjoy your trip...... it isn't worth worrying about... simply being prepared, as you are doing is all it takes.....

Thanks for the responses!

I think he is worried about his safety for some reason. :confused3 He also hates the turbulence, but i read somewhere that going into turbulence is actually good for the planes. Not sure what that means, but I'll believe it!

I'm glad we will still be able to take food and drink on the flight.. even if i have to buy it there. The flight is only 2 hours, but I still would like to have snacks with me just in case! :thumbsup2

I understand being concerned about safety. It's probably a part of feeling out of control of the process.

Here's an interesting statistic:

The 2011 rate of 0.34 accidents per million flights is the lowest since World War II, when the modern airline industry began, Perry Flint, IATA’s Washington-based spokesman, said in an interview. It is 68 percent less than the 1.05 rate in 2001.

“This is a long-term trend,” Flint said. “2011 is not some kind of anomaly.”

Uh, no, it's not. You probably won't have any turbulence anyway. Just keep your seatbelt fastened at all times during the flight.

Go to TSA.gov and your airline's website and make sure you read and understand rules and policies.

Remember that if you bring sandwiches you need to put the condiments on ahead of time OR put the little packets in your quart bag for security.
