Have you thought about moving

to another state in the next few years ? if so where ?

I thought about it a lot, looking at South Carolina ( warm and reasonable prices), also thinking about Arizona, California and Pennsylvania, but Im open to almost any state, but im ready for a change

We really want to move to South Carolina or Savannah, Ga. area. Besides the weather (Major factor) we really hate the political climate here in RI. Government employee unions control the state. They get a pay raise and I get a pay cut (taxes go up).

Last year we figured we had better go look at the place we want to live. We spent a few days in the Hilton Head, Savannah area. We love the area and the people are so warm and friendly. We stopped in to see Disney's Hilton Head resort. As we were looking around (lost look on our faces) a cast member asked if we needed help. We ended up in a half an hour conversation with him. He told us when we are ready to move look him up he would love to help us with our move. I mean I don't think I've ever had more than a 10 minute conversation with any stranger here. Southern hospitality, this is where I want to live.

This will be quite a change for me. I've only moved once in my life and that was only a mile. I still have the same phone number I've had my whole life. Good luck! Let me know if you take the leap.

We've lived all over the country; by the time DD was starting 1st grade, she'd lived in 5 different places! We've been here for 11 years now, and DH and I are starting to get itchy feet again. We like it here and have made some good friends, and I am glad DD finally had the chance to settle into a hometown, but... the winters are usually long and cold (not this year though... oil bill loves it :thumbsup2), the job market is horrible, there are limited social/cultural opportunities, etc. Just last summer, while in NYC, DH and I were both looking around and thinking, "Yeah, we could live here for awhile!" Seriously. Who in their right mind considers moving from rural Maine to MANHATTAN??? However, we used to live IN San Francisco (DD was born there) and we loved it. Not sure we'd really head into a major city, and of course the job market and cost of living would be major factors, but yes, we are considering moving just because we want to!

I took a class last summer from a woman who, with her husband, had raised their family while working for a service that provides teachers to international schools. This would be a possibility as DH and I both teach- chemistry, physics, biochem, english, math are all strong points. Perhaps I should look into this...

Moved from Maine to Arizona three and a half years ago. I had lived on the East Coast for over fifty years, so it was a BIG change in many ways!

Fortunately, we love it here and all has worked out fine.:) All three of our adult kids have also moved out West, and of course, our two grandkids were born here.

We built our retirement home in a community surrounded by beautiful mountains, have met some very nice neighbors, and absolutely LOVE the abundant sunshine and warm (VERY warm in the summer!) temperatures.

We are enjoying exploring the area. We love being close to so many places we'd never spent much time in when living on the East Coast. San Diego, Disneyland, Los Angeles and Las Vegas are only a seven hour drive away. Great for long weekend getaways.:) Phoenix is less than two hours away and El Paso is about five hours.

My husband loves the many beautiful golf courses in the Tucson area, and did I mention how much we love the weather? Yeah, I did.:)

We will move somewhere later this year. The when/where are up in the air. DH manages construction projects, so we move frequently. More frequently than many military families!

7 professional moves in 14 years of marriage.

We have thought about Idaho or North Dakota. I have had nightmares about moing to Wisconsin. :scared1:

Heh - Wisconsin isn't THAT bad:goodvibes

DH is 53, I am 50. We have a DD who will be starting college in the fall. If DD graduates with a degree in the major she has chosen - she will not be returning to Wisconsin. DD is an only child. DH and I could see relocating to wherever she ends up. (Now - we don't want to be close enough to be a bother...but we do want to be close enough to get to spoil any grandkids.) Actually DH is insisting that we are an active part of the grandkids lives.

So - I do see us moving out of state in 10 -15 years.

Counting the days until my youngest graduates High School, then I am out of Northern IL and off to Southern IN!

I really like Northern Georgia, but DH won't move that far south (LOVES winter). Southern Indiana is one growing season better than up here in Northern Illinois, plus the homes are much less expensive, property taxes are so much more reasonable, and since both our children are probably going to Indiana colleges, tuition once in-state will be much easier to handle!

We had originally planned on North Carolina, 1/2 way between the mountains and ocean. However, cost of living and prices of homes seem to be increasing there, so Southern IN it is.

I guess moving too far south is probably not in my best interest when it comes to acceptance by the neighbours, though I would love the longer growing seasons. Politically, I am rather liberal, grew up European, so Socialist is more my way of thinking. I have a couple of friends that moved to Kentucky, and one to Southern GA, and they feel very out of place as lifelong Democrats. Dh, however, is a Republican, so he would be loving it, from what I hear!

But as long as I can go south enough to grow Crepe Myrtles and Southern Magnolias, I will be happy.

I see "southwest" and think tarantulas and big snakes :scared1: (irrational phobia, so venomous doesn't even come into play:laughing:). How "bad" is it, really, from one Mainah to another?

Every day of my life. I have lived in Indiana my whole life and for someone who hates winter, this isn't the place to live.

I live in an old falling down house that I love, but would love to live someplace where everything in the house worked!

My parents are elderly, my kids are almost grown and I am ready for a change! DH and I both work for companies that have branches all over the world and we are small players in our companies so there are always openings in our level.

I know other women my age have fantasies about other men, I have moving fantasies!!! I dream of a place you can live where you can get in your car and drive without checking the road conditions before you leave. I dream of a place where I can live that when I turn something on, it actually works! I dream of a place where you don't have to fight over space in the bathroom and where I have a huge closet! Every girl needs a dream!!

We have talked for a while about moving from MA to AZ. And now hubby is saying 2015 we are moving. We visiting in July 2010 for my birthday and he absolutely loved it. I'd been before. We purposely went in July to check out the heat and we were fine with it. The lack of humidity was wonderful!

I've thought about moving for the last 15 years. I hate it here. Hate the weather, hate the small-townitis attitudes, the obsession with football (I was just told yesterday by someone being dead serious that "Since you don't like football, you need to move to some Communist country or someplace like that, because real Americans love football"), the weather...

I know other women my age have fantasies about other men, I have moving fantasies!!! I dream of a place you can live where you can get in your car and drive without checking the road conditions before you leave.
That is me.

My #1 criteria in moving is that I want to move someplace where I never have to remove snow from my driveway or walk on icy sidewalks/parking lots or drive through a snowstorm ever ever ever again.

We were just down in FL early this week and were walking around in tank tops. Got on a plane and a few hours later, I'm wielding a shovel again. It was all I could do to keep from crying. I just hate it. I cannot wait until retirement to move.

I told my dh a few years ago when he was balking about moving south for retirement that I was moving with or without him. I mean it. This is non-negotiable.

We did 5 years ago and have no regrets:goodvibes

We moved from NC to PA. Although we still have a house in NC (I am here right now for a visit), I could never move back full time.

Try it! A move is just that. Nobody is forcing you to stay. You can always move back. But if you don't try, you will never know.

We moved to the mid-west 5 years ago and I have wanted to move back East since the first year. DD just picked a college close by so my plans to move have been postponed.

Now, we will probably stay until the kids graduate from HS but who knows. I would love to live near a beach somewhere that still has seasons.

:)
I see "southwest" and think tarantulas and big snakes :scared1: (irrational phobia, so venomous doesn't even come into play:laughing:). How "bad" is it, really, from one Mainah to another?

Hi Mainah!:wave2: Yes, there are lots of creepy-crawlies out here!:scared1: However, you kind of get used to them, believe it or not.:)

The first time I came across a scorpion, I freaked out, cried, and was ready to pack up and move back East. I was totally creeped out the first time I saw a tarantula by our garage door and a rattler passing through our backyard. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!:scared1:

The good news is that we've been here for 3 1/2 years and have only seen one tarantula and one rattlesnake. Tarantulas are basically harmless (pretty scary looking, though!) and the yard of the house we were living in at the time we saw the snake had big gaps where big critters could enter.

Before we purchased our new house, we rented in three different areas around Tucson and only one of those houses was in an area where we saw scorpions. So far, in our new house, we have not seen any scorpions, big spiders of any kind, or snakes. Of course, we take precautions to prevent coming across such critters. I'd say 95% of the houses out here have backyards surrounded by concrete walls and/or open-view fencing, that keeps desert creatures from roaming to close. We use a bi-monthly pest control service, have made sure we have no openings in our backyard, and have added three foot screen mesh fencing to the bottom portion of our open-view fencing.

I've also learned that the desert critters are just as scared of us as we are of them, and really aren't out to "get us", as I originally thought.:rotfl: After all, we are in their environment.

Short answer (too late, I know!)- Yes, there are creepy things out here, but no, they really aren't that bad.:) You could go months, or years, and not come across any of these critters.

The 2015 Super Bowl will be held in Glendale, outside of Phoenix. In case you're interested.:) And, you're right about no humidity!:)

I'd love to move to the East coast. I live in Southern England and the winters are horrible. We don't even get a proper summer. I've heard states like Pennyslvania and the Carolinas have cold winters and hot summers. That would be like heaven to me :goodvibes

I want to come to America for my gap year after I graduate from school. We can't move here now because my mum doesn't have the qualifications to work in the US and I don't think my parents even want to. :confused3

We are moving but I have no idea where. :goodvibes:lmao:

Here we are grown up, ready to retire and we are confused as teenagers!

We are thinking Costa Rica, in the central valley area but our second choice would be state side in either central NC or very northern GA.

So many decisions to make!:upsidedow

In 54 years I've never lived from than 6 miles from where I am right now. DW, well, Air Force Brat, but last 45 years, same boat as me, except about a 10 mile distance.

I have to admit I have thought about it with California taxes and politics. But to be honest, it seems like everyone I know who does move to another state regrets doing it. Usually the homesickness for friends and family offsets the cheaper living.
So I think I'll just go on vacation in other states instead.

:thumbsup2 Love this. I have the same dream.

We moved into our vacation home in NC full time a year ago. We still have our house in FL but ignore it totally. LOVE NC!!!!
