Have you seen the musical "In the Heights"?

I am considering getting tickets to see this muscial but of course, I don't want to spend the money if its not good. Please share your reviews!

I haven't seen it. But, it got excellent reviews when it opened. It's been playing for over a year. That's good for b/way. I'd say, if you like that type of music, you'll enjoy the show.

REALLY good! Saw it in the spring. Nosebleed seats. Didn't matter. I loved it. The dancing was amazing! There is this one dancer, whose ab definition I could see from the BALCONY! She was amazing!

The story is good, but at times hard to follow because they use some spanish words and the actors talk REAL fast.
I still loved it!

DD's friend saw it in the summer on Broadway and said it was great!

DS is going to see it in Minneapolis next month with his HS choir - wish I could go along!

Love love love it! I came home and bought the soundtrack. Son loves it from just the soundtrack and he hasn't even seen the show. Awesome dancing. Feels fresh and modern. The Spanish is no problem.

Lin- Manuel Miranda has been criticized for "Disney-fying" the barrio...no gangs, no drugs. He wanted to show a neighborhood where "everybody's got a job, everybody's got a dream." He's not playing the lead anymore. His replacement is terrific and he says that is what attracted him to role - Hispanics shown as hardworking people, not criminals or druggies.

I love this show - I saw it back in January just before Lin Manuel Miranda left and it was terrific. Nothing really objectionable about the show - it takes place in Washington Heights over a scorching July 4th weekend, so the characters are all in their summer clothes (but nothing risque), some characters gossip in a hair salon, and in the opening scene of Act 2 it's made plenty obvious that two characters have gotten to know each other a little better - but again, nothing explicit is scene (she's wearing his shirt).

But it's a really fun show, the music is great (I'm addicted to"96,000") and it's got such a sweet story. I'd definitely see it - there were plenty of families in the audience when I saw it.

Thanks so much for the info. I'm not over the top about monitoring stuff like this -- she did see Movin' Out a couple years ago and aside from boring the pants off of all of us, the only bit I'd consider risque sailed over her head. I'm just trying to avoid being the dolt who takes their kids to "see the puppets" in Avenue Q!

Oh, it's definitely nothing like Avenue Q (another one of my favorite shows). They actually managed to make the Bronx look adorable - which both of my Bronx-raised parents loved about the show.

My daughter's public HS drill team is going to NY in March and it is one of the shows they are going to see - so, it passes the public school test. (Billy Elliot didn't.)

I had no problem with my 13 year old seeing it. There are a few swear words (very few) and a bit of suggestive talk by the ladies in the hair salon, but nothing you don't see on TV. My D took the CD to school to let her Spanish teacher listen to it, and from her reaction, we gather that a few of the Spanish song lyrics are a bit vulgar. (So no problem unless the 11 year old is fluent in Dominican and Puerto Rican slang.)

Thanks, I'm not concerned about it. Like I said, I don't believe I'm over the top in monitoring this kind of stuff, but I just thought it didn't hurt to verify from people who've actually seen it. I did get a few comments from people who were familiar w/ Movin' Out a couple years ago, but that sailed over her head -- unless she was asleep out of sheer boredom!

Well, you know DD did just begin a middle school 10-week rotation of Introduction to Spanish. Maybe she's so gifted she'll get an earful from the slang!

I think we'll have a great time at the show!

My DD10 is dying to see it. She is so cute going around singing the songs from it (and I promise you she understands everything!)

I took her to see Hair earlier this summer and even the nude scene did not phase her. (her older sister's request)

"In the Heights" is on tap for next weekend. I cannot wait. Both girls are really excited!

Wow, Billy Elliot didn't pass for a high school? When I saw it in London there was a school field trip there. And I keep hearing the language was a little worse in the London production.

Wow, my neighbor's dd saw Sping Awakenings with her HS theater class (catholic school)!

In The Heights is terrific. I saw it this past summer (front row seats! *parties that I actually won at ticket lottery*), and it was amazing.
I didn't realize how dance-heavy the show was, and that was one of the best parts of the show. Awesome choreography.

We saw "In the Heights" in Chicago this past Sunday and it was AMAZING!!! I highly recommend it.
