Hi-

I posted this question on the DVC Rent/Trade Board, but since that board is so specific I thought I might find some DVCers who might be able to respond to my question over here so here goes:

Have you ever posted points for Rent on the Rent/Trade Board and NOT been able to sell them? Have you ever lost points because you couldn't sell them? Have you ever had an experience so bad selling them, that you would rather lose them instead next time?

See, I'm trying to convince Sister and Brother-in-law to purchase DVC, but their problem has always been that they don't think they would go often enough to justify purchasing 150 points. (although I think they would, heck I think they've been to more DVC resorts on cash than I have!) Even if they bank and borrow and go once every three years, they still don't think they would use the 450...although they do love spending a couple of days at VB and they paid cash for HH this Spring and plan on going back sometime. They also don't see any financial sense in using it for anything other than Disney.

BIL is in finance, so I thought if I could appeal to his financial side and let him know how easy it is to sell points, then they might go for it and become part of the DVC family. So that's why I'm wondering if anybody has had any problems selling points. I'd love for them to become DVC members.

(okay, okay, part of my motivation is the fact that my sister and I share a lot of things--even though she doesn't expect me to----, but this is one thing that I JUST DON'T WANNA SHARE!;) )

My DH is a financial guy and before we purchased he did thenumbers thing and said it wasn't worth it....Then we went to WDW and ended up staying at BWV and he then decided that it was definatley worth the money....the value of the type of resort you get for the money....we were comparing a moderate(where we usually stayed) with that of a DVC cost which is a Deluxe....BIG DIFFERENCE....

We purchsed 175 points at first with the idea of going down every 18months....thought it would be enough....we are a family of 6 and quickly grew out of a 1 bdrm and then we began going every 8 to 12 months ended up purchasing a resale....

Any how I have sold points on the rent board without a problem for $10....wasn't difficult...only did it because a fiasco with friends borrowing points then not wanting them.....:(

Any how the financial side shouldn't be a factor if WDW is where you vacation....it's a prepayment of vacations.....

Good Luck....It really is worth the investment...

Oh Annie!! You are too funny!!! You? Don't want to share??? Who are you kidding . . . you just want the incentive!! You can't fool me!!! LOL!!! ;)

You're WRONG BCVOwner2002. My BIL spoke to a DVC guide before I DID!

No incentive for me:(......(but otherwise you DO know me too well!):p

In this present economic environment, present them with the facts but don't pressure them to buy; they might not be able to rent the points or for the price they would like to have.

Having said that, I've pretty much gotten the price I wanted and have met (ok, cyber met) some nice people.

When my father was diagnosed with cancer, we cancelled our Christmas trip, and the pts had been borrowed from next year, so they had to be used. I had never rented pts before then. I met 4 very nice people who bought my pts and earned me nearly $2000. I was relieved that I didn't just lose those pts, and I am saving the money to buy some more pts. I was shocked by how many people wanted to rent my pts, although many of them had no idea how DVC worked. They assumed that I was MS, and they could just ask me about availability, but they were not really interested in renting my pts. I don't think you could rent pts easily if you worked outside the home, and didn't use company time to conduct your pt business. It was quite time comsuming for the two days that it took to rent the pts, and you need to keep up with getting confirmations to people, and reminding them about completing payments, and so forth. It's not as easy as one would think to get pts rented, but it eased my pain to earn $2000. If your brother is business-oriented, and can stick with it to get the job done, he could rent pts to pay for his contract, and his vacations would be free. Right now the market is somewhat depressed, and pts are typically being rented for $8-$9 a pt, not $10, as another poster mentioned.

We had some friends who wanted to go on a vacation with us to WDW. We didn't have enough points to let them borrow so I looked into the rent/trade board and found several members renting points. Our friends ended up renting the amount of points they needed from a very nice person. Also, the transaction was very smooth and we had a wonderful vacation.;)
