I rented out points fairly easily all 3 times. But I not only posted, but read the posts about people looking for dates/points that I could help them with.
I rented some points here on the board last year. If I remember it was in the high 200's worth of points. Within a week or 2 they were all gone. Several different people.
How do you handle the transaction? Do you get on the phone with MS and do a three-way and make the reservation for the person renting? How are you assured you receive the money from them? I've often wondered this myself.
It was pretty simple. Starts with an email or phone call from the rentee requesting dates and negotiating price. Once that's done, call MS, make the ressie. The rentee then sends payment. This is all of course assuming that the ressie is well within the cancellation period. Once paid and check clears, I sent them copies of the MS confirmation. Deal done
I had some borrowed pts from a cancelled ressie that I couldn't use, so I rented my pts. I had so many takers that I ended up renting an extra 150 pts, belonging to my daughter and brother It was pretty easy after I got into it. When people contacted me, I negotiated price before I did anything for them. Once we agreed on a price, I contacted MS aqnd checked availability, making the ressie in my name. Then I contacted the renter, gave them the ressie number so that they could verify that a ressie had been made, and requested partial payment thru PayPal. Once I received the money, I changed the ressie to the renter's name, with the ressie to my address. Once it arrived, I sent it on to the renter with a request for final payment at least 45 days before arrival. Just be sure to leave yourself a cushion of time so that you can arm-twist, if necessary, to receive that final payment. I only had one person that, I believe, would have stiffed me for the remainder of the cash if I hadn't gotten stern, and threatened to cancel the ressie. You need to have a little time for that, just in case.
