Been a victim of a violent crime?

Whether it was a robbery, a rape, or a family member murdered, or what have you....have you OR someone you know been a victim. I had a friend at work tell me about a violent rape she was a victim to over 20 yrs ago... and it just saddens me to know how common it is. So, I wanted to see a poll to see how many (if any) are lucky enough NOT to be close to the situation....

My father was a passenger on a bus when a very unstable man ran on it and beat him up unprovoked. I think he beat up the bus driver as well. It was over 10 years ago, I can't remember all of the details, just that it made the news. I think hecut my dad with a knife too. He had some kind of injury on his head.

My aunt was murdered; stabbed to death by 2 men that her husband hired. 22 years later the crime was finally solved.

Wow, so sad. I only had to deal with my purse being taken. That was enough for me.

I was 27 wks pregnant when my ( ex ) husband stabbed me multiple times .My baby was delivered by emergency c-section weighing 1 lb 14 oz .I was told that docs said " we can't save the mom but we can try to save the baby".But we both did survive ! I spent 52 days in trauma unit & baby spent 3 months in NICU .Because of my blood loss ,she has cerebral palsy.She is now a 12 yr old BEAUTIFUL girl ! She also had her first trip to Disney in March through Make A Wish & had a great time ! Oh yea ,ex husband spent 6 years in jail & is now living 5 miles away !

I'm so sorry to hear about what he did to you and the fact that your child is paying for it. I'm so glad she had fun on the trip. I'm a MAW volunteer and love helping kids go to Disney. Did you guys stay at GKTW? I got to go through it once. The director showed me around one year while we were on vacation. When were you there? One of my kids was there at the last of Sept.

Very happy to hear the crime was solved.....just so (whats the word) meaningless... on why people do crimes like that....

OMG... That is so sad, yet so amazing how you have pulled thru...and how you are strong enough to stay where he lives so close!!! It amazes me how men can do that to women they claim to love.
I posted awhile back how a co-worker told me that her husband shot and killed her 18month old son because he was 'making too much noise'...

I'm so glad they were finally able to solve the crime. I hope they'll be in prison for the rest of their lives?

That is really neat! Our biggest fund-raiser is a wish-a-thon where radio and tv work together with us one day every year so we can grant more wishes. we worry every year we wll not raise enough. I really worry this year due to the economy. Fortunately, we are able to tell everyone that the money raised is for children in our chapter. Many many people know a child that has received a wish. It is sad that there are so many children with life threatening illnesses that almost everyone knows someone around here that has been affected with it.

Yea ,that was the opening of my victim impact statement in court ,"He'll be out in a few short years but Sydney was given a life sentence " .Yes , we did stay at GKTW .We were there this past March .It is such an incredible place !They have so much for the kids to do .The staff go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable !MAW & GKTW do so much to give these kids an exciting trip with wonderful memories !

My friend was attacked in a parking garage by a man with a knife. She was ok and managed to get away.

I was kidnapped as a child but they found me a couple of hours later he had left me in a park. It wasnt really violent he grabbed me out of my stroller that my brother was pushing.

My purse was snatched when I was in college. Stupidly, I tried to hang on to it and got dragged along the ground.

My sister was stabbed by the ex-girlfriend of a male friend of hers - the woman assumed my sister was his new girlfriend, and stabbed her. She has a huge scar to show for it from her neck down her entire right shoulder-blade. Woman was sent to prison, I'm not sure for how long...

I can't tell you how sad these stories are. The pp whose husband only got 5/6 years...he should have been hanged.

I had a teacher in 8th grade who was a victim of the "Stocking Stangler" in Columbus, Ga. She was there on friday, killed on Saturday/Sunday morning and found out about it in the paper on Sunday as it was the top story. I know how I felt just knowing her, being a victim myself or having someone close to me, I can't imagine. I was sad enough for days...really a traumatic experience for my class.

Just wanted clarification.. I assumed it was someone he hired to help around the house or something?? Or did he hire them TO kill her?? Just got confused... Sad and scary...

My cousin was stabbed to death by her husband. This happened about 22 years ago now. Her and her husband were young parents (18 & 19 I think) and living with my Aunt. They rest of the family went on vacation and he stabbed her and took their baby (9 months at the time) to my Grandma's house (just to babysit or so he said) and then took off to Chicago. My Aunt and younger cousin discovered her in the house after they returned. My Aunt never returned to the house for even a minute after that day. During the funeral, there were undercover FBI agents there just in case he showed up. They eventually found him and convicted him of the murder for which he served 12 years- all because he thought my cousin was flirting with someone else. It was later revealed that a knife (not the murder weapon) had been hidden under the crib mattress of their baby when they went to move their belongings out of the house. This guy was truly a psycho. The baby was adopted by my aunt and the guy actually thought he could get custody back after he got out of prison, but that never happened.

A very good friend of mine and former co-worker was assaulted comming out of a nightclub. He was well-built and in good shape, but when a group of teenagers (I think the police finally narrowed it down to 6 or 7 individuals) saw him comming out of a gay club, they beat the crap out of him. He had a few broken ribs and a minor concussion, most of them didnt serve any time since they were minors and gay bashing wasn't considered a hate crime at the time here in FL.

We used to have a family convenience store, but after the last event we sold it..

It was 3:30 in the afternoon when 2 masked robbers entered with guns. My husband had just left with my two children, and they were quite physical. They pushed me down on the floor and kept kicking my back. I was sure I was going to die, and my children's faces kept racing through my mind. Thank God they did not shoot. They were caught later , and both guns were fully loaded. . This was 5 years ago, and I do not think of it daily, but often enough. I can not see a ski mask without shaking.

They even stole my purse and the next day I was having my son's entire K class for his Birthday at my house. I was petrified as they had my license and full address. There were 2 policeman who stayed ALL day when I told them of this. I thought that was needed at the time. Who knows what these robbers think.
