Have you or how many times have you gone solo?

I've gone solo more times than I can count now. In fact, in 4 days I am headed to Disneyland for a 5 night stay. I love it. Other people I have traveled with, want to go too fast for my liking. They don't want to stop for pictures, or relax at a meal. They want to google their food instead, and roll their eyes, as I get in line to meet a character. So I go alone, and I have a blast. Besides, I have made many online friends, and we meet up sometimes, for just enough shared time, that I don't feel frustrated.

Better going alone, than not going at all. My first solo trip was back in 2008, and I was nervous going all the way to California by myself. It ended up being a huge success, and prompted me to keep planning my fun getaways.

I agree so much with barbaraann. I used to go quite a bit when I lived in Southern California, and I was able to take my time and do EXACTLY what I wanted and skip what didn't interest me. I remember going with a group of people who only wanted to ride the Mountains and Indiana Jones. I love thrill rides as much as the next person, but I was kind of hurt when they balked at my suggestion to go to the Tiki Room...

Then again, it is nice to have someone to share the experience with as well. Sometimes though, you just have a mental itinerary of the things you need to do or eat, and it's nice to stick to it. :)

If you haven't done a solo trip, do it at least once and evaluate how you feel after. These things are a matter of personal preference.

P.S. As a woman visiting the resort alone (and often at night), I always felt super safe in the entirety of the resort; from the parks to the parking structure itself.

Reading closer into your question about leaving a group vs. traveling solo...I would have to say it would be that if you have a group of people, I would think you would still have to be accountable to the group. So if you have ADRs or FPs for Fantasmic together at a certain time, you have to make sure you're on schedule. I've done this (solo or in a dyad), and it's a bit stressful (for me anyway) because I don't want to be caught up in anything that could interfere with plans...I don't know if that answers the question in a super direct way, but I am just a big proponent of all Disney fans going solo at least once; even if it means just breaking away from a group for a day or so.

I cannot count the amount of times I have gone to WDW or DLR solo but I have done 9 solo cruises (7 with Disney). I like to travel alone and I typical do both Disney and non-Disney trips throughout the year.

Since fall 2008...
Group: 6 trips to WDW, 1 scheduled this November; 2 x DLR; 1 x HKDL
Solo: 3 trips, and 1 trip scheduled for spring 2016 - all at WDW

i am planning my first solo trip this January. i am new to this site. how do you go about arranging meets?

Also new to this site...Enjoying the different threads.
First recent visit to The World with friends (group) was 2007, after a 28 year absence. The World changed, but yet seemed familiar to me.
Then I waited for someone to want to go back and no one ever seemed to want to go.
So that's when I decided to start going it alone and have for 2013, 2014, 2015 and now planning 2016.
Just can't get enough of a solo vacation... I think about it all year long. LOL

Hi Anne-welcome! You will prob see this as you explore the site more-a solo will post a thread with their dates and asking if anyone wants to join them. Some make reservations and mention they are going to a specific restaurant-others just give dates. Another way is to chat with people-there are threads and messenger tools. Even if you do not find anyone-the cast are great with solo diners so don't hesitate to make a reservation at any restaurant that interests you. Have a great trip!

Let's see, I've been divorced for 15 years, so that means that I have gone solo 14 times. One of those years, I took my whole immediate family counting up to 11 people. That was fun, but, going alone was more fun. I could just do whatever I wanted to do, whenever I wanted too. It was heaven.

Hi Anne! I'm planning on late January/early February. The weather then is usually just PERFECT for me!
This is when I am planning to go to, the last 2 weeks of January and 1st week of February, as it is the low season. I would like to stay in a value resort, like ASMu and get an AP, since I will be there for 3 weeks so I could get the room discount with the AP. How about you?

I prefer deluxe resort. Staying at Saratoga because I love being right by Disney Springs and there aren't a lot of families with small children. It's nice and quiet. This time of year used to be the low season. But the past couple years I've noticed it getting more and more crowded! The calendars say it's a 1/2, but it feels more like a 4! :)

I am an AP holder at Universal and Sea World, because was going to be there twice this year. Once was for a convention and the other is for my honeymoon, which will be split between Universal and Disney.

In July *really dumb idea. Don't do this when the heat index is 118*, I went out a day early and stayed two extra days at the end so that I could check out Universal and Sea World. Specifically, I wanted to go on the Harry Potter rides and any others that were remotely questionable for potential motion sickness so I could know to avoid them with hubby on our honeymoon. A yakking wife really puts the damper on a honeymoon when hubby is worrying about simple motion sickness.

Sure enough, I had a WONDERFUL two days at Universal riding all the rides and using single rider lines constantly. I met lots of neat people and enjoyed myself thoroughly. I have a couple of local friends who joined me in the evenings after work, but for the most part I was on my own, and it was delightful!!! I'm seriously considering going again because it was so cathartic. I don't know if I could bring myself to do Disney without hubby, though. He'd feel awfully left out.

Never done a complete solo trip but I have always wanted to! When I go with family, I always allow time for just myself, to do my favorite things and those have been the best times! My upcoming trip next month is somewhat solo- flying solo 11/5 and staying at POR for 9 nights solo. I will have friends who will be in wdw staying at AKL 11/3-11/8 so we have 2 meals planned together. And my bestfriend, her DH and DD are arriving 11/6 staying at AoA and we have most of our meals together, so I will meeting up with them. Otherwise, I will be solo and will be enjoying Epcot solo (which I love!)... I really enjoy exploring Epcot by myself, it in one of my favorite parks. I am doing 1 day at Universal during my trip, but not solo as my parents will be spending a week at Universal while I'm in Disney. So my solo trip really turned into a make time for everyone trip! Lol But I am really looking forward to doing things alone and waking up early without worrying about anyone else getting up and ready. It just feels so freeing just thinking about it! 32 days!
