I'm thinking I'll probably use the dry milk in cooking. I'm going to get the powdered eggs for cooking too. Just to stock up.

I remember my mother making powdered milk and mixing it with fresh milk. She introduced it to us gradually. First it was three quarters fresh milk and then half fresh and half powdered. By the time finances finally improved we were drinking one quarter fresh milk with three quarters powdered. She also used canned milk in almost all of her cooking. I think that was also around the time that she began to drink her coffee black.Don't forget about powdered milk. It may not be the greatest option but it would do in a pinch.

Bread I buy at the Oroweat bakery store. I continue to get amazing deals that way. I can get 2 big bags FULL of bread-type goods - whole wheat The USDA is predicting food prices to only go up about 3% in 2011 OVERALL - not that you won't see some items spike more, but other things may drop to compensate. I suspect that 3% may be a bit optimistic for what many families will experience, but I don't think it's going to be too terribly worse. Spot craziness may rule on some things as speculators take over for awhile (pork bellies anyone?), but then things will normalize.
I will continue to make my own rolls. Gold medal flour at acme was ninety nine cents for a five pound sack this week if you bought ten items from the spotlight savings category. I got ten sacks. They also had wesson oil for one ninety nine for forty eight ounces in the same spotlight section. Oil, salt, yeast, warm water and flour are all you need to make some nice crusty italian rolls. In fact, the italians dont even put salt in there bread so you can leave it out if you want.So my question is will you buy special rolls for turkey day or do the old fashion way and just serve regular slice bread and butter. The rolls are really good and I say treat yourself on the Holiday.

I noticed today that margarine was higher too. Why?
I have noticed the price of food going up too. Butter about gave me a heart attack yesterday. Stupid holiday baking.
.
I had to pick up my margarine/butter today because we were out. On Saturday it was $2.19, today it was $2.59. Should have picked it up on Saturday. I use the Land o Lakes butter spread with Olive Oil. Wonder if that could be frozen? At 40cents in a few days, it would be out of budget very quickly.
Maybe we should list items others wouldn't think could be frozen but can be...
