Have you heard that bird feeders can attract rodent like

We feed the birds and the squirrels too. We see dozens of species and varieties of both. They make us happy. We only had one rat and it appeared to be a pet turned loose. It was winter so we took it in, but it didn't want to be a pet. So we turned it loose in a wildlife preserve when it got warm again.

Thank you for taking the little guy in for the winter <3 That was very kind.

The bird feeders around here seem to exclusively attract squirrels and rats according to my neighbors' many complaints on the Nextdoor site. We have a tree right outside that the hummingbirds love so I am content without trying to feed anything.

Funny that I am reading this today. On NYE my DH and I were remenising about the apartments we lived in when we first got married 28 years ago. He says remember that bird feeder that was feeding the rats? I didn't recall until he told me the story again. We lived on a 1st fl apartment and had a bird feeder outside our patio. We had the patio doors open and I was hearing strange noises outside. We got a flashlight and looked beyond the patio and there were rats eating the birdseed on the ground from the feeder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got rid of it the next day and haven't had one since!! We live in a rural area now and I know there are vermin out there mice etc and I will throw rotting fruit/veggies out in our woods for animals but to date - 18 years and counting - I have not seen a rat yet!!!

I don't have a bird feeder, but my neighbor does. I have never seen a rat at it, but I have seen skunks! No thanks!

Well-funny I should come across this post today- right now I am dealing with a raccoon issue. Apparently it hangs around here because of the bird seed. It now rains INSIDE my house due to a hole made in the roof by this raccoon. We managed to trap it yesterday-trapper said it was the biggest one he has ever trapped -between 50 and 60 pounds (bird seed weight lol). Now I can begin working on the $7,000 worth of damage this thing did!
