Have you had the H1N1 vaccine??

well - i don't think they 10 year old boy who died last week and was buried yesterday was obese or vit d deficient - he was a healthy boy who was a good athlete and played outdoors in the sun and according to his parents ate well (wasn't into junk food)

i have heard of only a few people dying from this and non of there were what has been described here.

that said - i'm still undecided if i'm going to get the shot - i don't even get the regular flu shot but i do agree that it's been blown out of proportion -

more people die with the regular flu every year then will with h1n1

I feel that using the rational that more people die of seasonal flu than H1N1 is moot as this is a new flu. Seasonal flu generally kills older people. This is striking the young.

i'm not using it as rational - i'm just saying that they have made such a HUGE deal out of this and then dropped the ball on the vaccines plus every year the flu is different - it's not the same strain as in years past so it's all relevant

if it's as deadly as they are making it out then they should have been more prepared - the US have had their shots for weeks before we got ours only to be told we don't have enough now since they stopped production on one shot only to find out pregnant women could have taken it

i wish they would put out the same or more information on the regular flu since it does effect more people then this one will.

You are correct in that the flu strains are different every year, that is how companies are able to make vaccinations.
For example they take last years seasonal, a some of this year seasonal, voila.vaccination.
H1N1 has not presented it self until this year, that is why we as humans have no immunity.

sorry to disagree with you but there was a swine flu outbreak in 1976, 1957 and 1918

"On the cold afternoon of February 5, 1976, an Army recruit told his drill instructor at Fort Dix that he felt tired and weak but not sick enough to see military medics or skip a big training hike.

Within 24 hours, 19-year-old Pvt. David Lewis of Ashley Falls, Mass., was dead, killed by an influenza not seen since the plague of 1918-19, which took 500,000 American lives and 20 million worldwide.

Two weeks after the recruit's death, health officials disclosed to America that something called "swine flu" had killed Lewis and hospitalized four of his fellow soldiers at the Army base in Burlington County."

here's the link

all kinds of sites pop up if you search swine flu 19 - the auto fill comes up with at least 10 that spans decades

we got ours today, all of us have sore arms. That's it. Line ups were very good here in Halton.

But this is not the SAME swine flu. It just has the same name.

Influenza A (H1N1) virus is a subtype of influenzavirus A and the most common cause of influenza (flu) in humans. Some strains of H1N1 are endemic in humans and cause a small fraction of all influenza-like illness and a large fraction of all seasonal influenza. H1N1 strains caused roughly half of all human flu infections in 2006. Other strains of H1N1 are endemic in pigs (swine influenza) and in birds (avian influenza).

In June 2009, World Health Organization declared that flu due to a NEW strain of swine-origin H1N1 was responsible for the 2009 flu pandemic. This strain is often called "swine flu" by the public media.

I have heard a lot about the obesity link, tho you know what realistically it goes with any disease and being at an unhealthy weight. You could say the same thing about smokers or heavy drinkers. Puts you more at risk of not recovering from acute illness.

You know it's funny, because being a front line health care worker, the health region has actually classified me as a high risk employee as far as being more at risk of catching something. It still hasn't convinced me to get the vaccine tho. I'm really not comfortable with the possible long term risks. Maybe those still don't outweight possible death if I catch a strong strain of the flu, but we shall see I guess.

I'll continue praying myself and my family continue to be watched over.

Honestly, I have been SO out of the loop on this issue that it's pathetic. I don't watch the news or listen the radio, so I honestly don't know much about the H1N1 Flu/vaccine.

Can someone tell me (with facts) what the death toll is compared to number of H1N1 cases here in Canada vs. the regular seasonal flu? Thanks.

Not sure praying will be of much help but as I said..you have to do what you have to do!:confused3

ok - then i don't understand why they are saying that those who were around in 1957 have some of the antibodies already because there was an outbreak then - we heard that on the news last week and were told that today when my parents wanted to get the shot.

the nurse told them that over 65 had been taken off the priority list because they should be immune to it - my mother isn't convinced though.

Just wanted to report that I went with my girlfriend today to the clinic in Milton. She walked right in, no wait. I thought our 1.5 hrs wait on Monday was good. DH is going tonight. Hopefully it will still be quite.

it was a "swine" flu just a different strain.. that is why older people don't seem to be getting it and younger people do

You're lucky that you can go get it. Here in Nova Scotia, I can't. Children under five, native Canadians, pregnant women and health care workers are the only ones that can get the shot - everyone else is out of luck. It really bothers me about all the lies the government told us. If this strain of flu was here in April, why did they wait until now to start administering the shots? In the late spring the federal health minister said the government had it all under control and that there was enough vaccine for everyone in Canada (and they should know how many people there are in Canada), all of this was not true. Now that I've gotten that off my chest I'll get off my soapbox. Thank you for your patience, now I feel better.

I think it took from then until now to formulate the vaccine. Next year they are saying H1N1 will be included in the regular flu shot..at least this years H1N1. If it mutates..??

Do you have an "in" that the others with H1N1 don't? Please do tell the secret so no other child has to die.

I don't have an "in" as you describe. What I do see tho is the deaths we have been getting this week(I work in the Emergency Department and ICU). We lost 4 more young adults yesterday, to "H1N1 like symptoms". Everything that comes in resembling the flu has been diagnoses as the H1N1.

Of those 4, only 1 would have been predisposed with a history of Asthma. One of our co-workers 25 year old daughter, also passed away 2 weeks ago from the flu.

I was vaccinated last night (as a front line staff I didnt have to wait in line, just went and had it done), after weeks of being against the vaccine because of unknown risks. The possible long term effects are not worth the risk of death at this point. The numbers are rising and the cases are becoming more severe every day.

God bless you all.

My doctor is giving the shots so I was able to get mine yesterday when I went in for a check up but my kids do not have an appointment until later in the month. I do not understand why they do not go into the schools and do all the kids, once one child has it, it is hard to stop the spread in the schools. Knock on wood my kids school does not have H1N1, but I know several others near by do, so I am sure it is not long.

One teacher told me several years ago the reason why schools have breaks at Christmas and spring break is to get the kids apart. The break is so all the illness that normally go around at those times have a chance to break that cycle of kids passing the illness around the schools. It seems so true, all the kids are all sick by Christmas and March and when they return a week later they are healthy.

Re-posting my own post in hopes of someone answering my question.

All I hear on the radio now is about the VACCINE. Has there been any new cases/deaths from the flu in Canada?

I also heard that contrary to rumours that were on the internet prior, the flu did not mutate and is the EXACT same strain as was here back in April.

I'm trying to decide if I should get the shot or not, which is why I'm asking for facts; thanks.

They are reporting 3 new deaths in the London area.
1 was a 2 month old baby, the other 2 were seniors with underlying health conditions.
None of these 3 fell into the targetted high risk groups.
