have you had a tummy tuck?

I am considering having one along with another required surgery in two weeks. My DH days I don't need it but I have had two kids and lost a good amount of weight in the last year. I hate being put under and if I ever considered this before this is the time to do it. I am not scared of the procedure and know I would have great results. I am not a vain person, don't wear flashy clothes and never will. Is this selfish? I want to feel better about my body as I get older. I have my mom coming to help me with the kids for 1 1/2 weeks so I do have help available. I am looking for others who have had this surgery or know friends who have. Any helpful suggestions, pointers, do's or don'ts.

Wow 5 C's. You are a brave woman!
I have had two C's and maybe this is part of the reason I want one. The pouch is still there no matter what I do. The cost is less than I though but I will already be in the hospital for another procedure so the anestheologist (sp) will already be there so I save $$. I am still not sure I want to go through with this though and need to make the decision soon.

I'm guessing you mean an abdominal plasty- when they cut out the V and pull the skin down and reattch the belly button?

If this is what you mean- I'd LOVE one. And not because i have a pouch...because i have stretch marks. I met with a surgeon to discuss it a few years back, but the cost made my decision for me.

I would weight the pro's and cons- if its something that you feel self conscious about, your already going to be under the knife, your recovery will probably be the same as if you wer ejust having the other surgey- which you didnt name....if the recovery of the 2 surgeries is a lot different, then I'd weight that- can you be out of commission for the length of time the surgery requires?

I dont think people who consider this surgery are vain. As I said, I would do it in a heartbeat if the cost were less, if I was in your shoes for instance, I'd do it. I wouldnt think twice!

Im going to have one done too. Not because of a pouch, but becuase in an admonialpasty they actaully will sew your stomch muscles back, and mine are stretched pretty far. You can actaully see how far the muscle is stretched when I do a sit up.

It's a question of when for me, not if. I need to find a time when my 3 babies are going to be taken care of for me. It's a longer recovery than other surgeries. But, I am certainly getting one.

My mother had one. She had gastric bypass surgery and had tons of skin hanging down. She's in her 50's and wasn't doing it so she could go flitting around in a bikini. She just wanted to look somewhat normal. It's not selfish at all. Her clothes fit a lot better - just simple jeans and a shirt.

She didn't have any problems. Obviously, she was a bit sore after, but she recovered quickly and has been very happy with her decision.

My best friend had one about 7 years ago. She is a nurse and she felt that the recuperating time for her was more than she expected. She could not sleep in a bed for almost a month. She slept in a recliner and she was pretty uncomfortable for for awhile. Would she do it again, it a heartbeat.

Had one lst October. I had a major abdominoplasty, a hysterectomy and a hernia repair done at the same time. The Gyn came in first and did the hyst. then the plastic surgeon came in and did the rest. Was it worth it? He** yes. Would I have waited to do it had I known how painful it would be and how long I'd be out of commision. Yes. my youngest 2 were 2 and 1 1/2 years old at the time and they went to Grandma's house for about a month because I couldn't pick them up when I was home alone with them. I think the tummy tuck was the most painfull part but I had 3 procedures done so I'll never know for sure. It was the muscle spasms that were the worst so I was on muscle relaxants for awhile and they helped a lot. Any ??'s let me know. Amy

My kids are a bit older 8 & 10 but still need me to get them to and from school, homework help etc. I am getting really scared of this now after reading on the internet last night. The recovery is longer then even most PS say based on what I have read. I am not sure (which probably means for me to wait) I know I won't regret it at all but maybe I will try a few more sit-up and working out and focus more on that specific are and see what happens. I can always do it in a year - kids will be older, maybe schedule it in the summer when they don't have school and activities, etc. I still would love to hear any other stories though....

Thank you this is a great forum, it is something I have not felt comfortable discussing with firends just yet.

I think this is one of the things you just have to do and try and plan but let nature take its course. If you wait for a good time to it my never come. Granted I said I would have waited but with 4 kids there probably wouldn't have been "a perfect time". Like I said..it was worth it!

I have two friends that had tummy tucks. One wanted just the skin to be taken care of and not the muscles and the surgeon told her not to bother (he made some analogy about getting a cadillac with out a/c) and so she got her muscles fixed too (stitched together). She had two Cs and a ******l (oops, regular delivery) and is very tiny. She went down a size just from the surgery. She had drains in for 5-7 days and they are nasty but necessary. Her DH moved a bed to the main floor of the house and her mom came to help her plus a lot of friends too. Her kids were 1 1/2 and 6.

My other friend had the same surgery, different surgeion and she also looks great. She lost five pounds and one size from the surgey and has since lost 10 more pounds and two more sizes, tall and thin. She looks great.

They both said they would do it again in a minute. The first one said, "I spent $5,000 getting my trees taken care of, why not spend $5,000 on myself!" She was already in the hospital for a tubal so the anesth was already there as well.

I have had friends that have had their noses done, breasts reduced and breast augmented, and then the tummy tuckers above. They all have said it was the best thing they ever did for themselves. None are "wealthy", all shop at discount stores and most clip coupons. Very average people that are just like your neighbor. I wish I could have my tummy tucked too!

My mom had one about 3 years ago. She's never been truely overweight but has always had to battle the bulge. She had me and my twin sister at age 17 & then my little sister 12 years later so after all that, her tummy was her worst issue. So she had the tummy tuck. Unfortunately she had problems with hers... the shunts wouldn't drain, her wounds got infected... it took 2 months to start feeling normal again. But now 3 years later, she looks amazing and would do it again in a minute.

I lost 70lbs at one point but then got pregnant and never really gained any weight but in the year and half since then i've gained 25lbs of it back unfortunately. If I can lose that 25lbs and another 25lbs I will be getting a tummy tuck & breast reduction, i've always promised myself that.

Don't feel bad about wanting to have one! Is it a little vain? Maybe, but so what? There is nothing wrong with wanting to feel better about yourself. Are you looking at a full TT? I know people that have had this done. Recovery time is about a week to two weeks, depending on how much work the surgeon needs to do. Results are instant, but you'll be a bit swollen for at least 6 months. Are you planning on having any more kids? If you are I would wait. I'm having a mini tuck next month and I can't wait! After having four kids, the area below my belly button looks like a raisin! Good luck!

honey, i say if you can afford it and you think it'll make you feel/look better, DO IT! i've lost 195 lbs (after having gastric bypass surgery) and unfortunately, i'm stuck w/ hanging skin b/c i can't afford to have it fixed and it doesn't hang enough (can you imagine?) for insurance approval. if i COULD have it done, i definitely would, along with an upper arm lift, breast lift and thigh lift. best of luck!

I have an appt next month with a plastic surgeon for a consult for a tummy tuck! I am beyond ecstatic! After 3 major abdominal surgeries, my tummy muscles will never be the same. I say, go for it! I am!!

What exactly is a mini tuck? I've got a pouch from a c/s and hys 5 years later. Plus, I just lost some weight, and it looks even bigger! I'm not rich, but I could find a way to afford a mini. PM me if you like. Thanks
