Have you had a good gluten-free meal at WDW?

If so, I'd love to hear about it. I just found out I have Celiac disease and now have to follow a gluten-free diet. I've already made our ADRs for our Sept. trip and filled out the form for special diets. I know WDW makes every effort to accommodate guests with special dietary needs, but I'd sure love to hear any positive, first-hand experiences. We have ADRs for the following restaurants, if that helps: Le Cellier, Artist's Point, Trail's End, Liberty Tree Tavern, 50's Prime Time, Mama Melrose and Wolfgang Pucks. Also, if you know of another restaurant that I should add, please let me know. Thank you.

If you go to the reviews area above there have been quite a few reviews

I'm eating GF and our trip to WDW last year was great! I sent in some forms to the Special Diet group at WDW and got all sorts of information on what items were GF at the CS restaurants, and all the TS places we ate had my GF information and the chef came out and told me what I could eat, or offered to make GF substitutions. The whole process was actually very easy ...... and delicious.

Check out the DISabilities Board - they have a lot of details about GF. Good luck - you'll have a great time.

DDIL has celiac and said all the meals she ate were good. I think her favorite was 50's Prime Time because she missed eating fried chicken. She wanted their recipe but they wouldn't give it to her. Both she and DS said it tasted like regular fried chicken. The ones she commented most on were: The Biergarten, 50's Prime Time and Rainforest at AK. She said all the counter service meals were good also. I think she mostly enjoyed having many options at all places and feeling like they were catering to her. Most of them asked her what she felt like eating when she asked what they had. When she told them, they told her how close they could get to it. They were very very nice.

DSIL has celiac disease and just went to WDW a week ago. She said her best meal of her life was at Le Cellier. The chef came out and met with her. Then they made her gluten-free pretzel bread and she said it was the most wonderful roll she's had in a long time. Then she had the mushroom filet with mashed potatoes. She enjoyed all her meals at WDW. WDW does a great job with allergies, and the chefs came to talk to her before every meal. One chef came out throughout the meal.

TThe Mara at AKL made the most wonderful chicken tenders! Wolfgang Puck Express made a gluten free pizza that was great! Caseys has buns that are gluten free and for a snack credit you can get gluten free carmel corn or brownies! Those are the things I can think of off hand!!

Disney will email you a list of all of the menu items and substitutions that are available in all of the parks and restaurants.
all of the table service and most of the counter service places are happy to accommodate. In fact, sometime the food is even better.

Call Disney Dining and ask for the email address for the special diet menus and they will set you right up.

Enjoy!

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

WDW is AWESOME for special food needs. I and 2 of my kids have food sensitivities, two which are Wheat & Dairy - and what doesn't have one or both in it!

There are many threads you will find about this. You can get the restaurant phone to talk to the restaurant, or you can email the address given on other post or simply show up at the restaurant. In every case I requested to speak with a Chef, they came out and took my order directly along with the kids. At buffets, the Chef would come out and point out what had wheat or dairy in it. Each place had GF dinner rolls/bread, GF brownie, Dairy-free ice cream (soy based). Every morning at the Innkeepers club they would have soy milk singles for my kids.

Disney goes, IMO, way beyond any other place. This is a common thing for them, so you will be in good hands.

DD loves the mickey waffles at Cape May and O'hana.
