Have you gotten food poisoning at WDW?

Yes. I had clams at The Wave. My stomach after about 30 minutes felt a little weird but nothing major. I was ok but felt a bit queasy the next day and then that night is when everything happened! I was stuck in the room for 2 days. I know it had to be food poisoning because I have had stomach viruses before and they were never a big deal. I was in so much pain from stomach cramps that I could barely move and I pretty much felt like death.

Food poisoning happens though. It can happen anywhere. I can't fault Disney. It's life. :confused3

We were there last week and 5 in our group came down with the violent tummy virus--it was horrible for a day-sure it was a virus:sick:

I got awfully sick right after eating at Ohana's. I'm not bashing Ohana's we've had wonderful dinners there in the past. I'm not regular a drinker and I had a Pina Coloda at Tambu Lounge so it could have been that, as well. I was the only one in our group who got sick. :(

I hate these types of threads because they blatantly point a finger at specific places that may or may not deserve that type of injected fear factor. If you really believe it was from there then you need to report it to a Doctor or Disney or both, so if an actual situation happened that caused it...someone can identify the problem quickly before others get sick.

I agree with you. Most of the people who believe they had food poisioning don't know if it really was that, or just a bug going around. Unless you see a Dr and they diagnose it as food poisioning, you are just guessing.

I think most of us get sick from eating a lot of food that are stomachs are not familiar with, and doing some drinking, and walking around in the sun all day. Our bodies are just not used to all of that.

Nope but dh felt ill after eating the tack salad at pecos bills. But he often feels ill after eating Mexican type food.

A lot is also allergies you just never new about or simply an over-reaction to a new foodstuff.

I found out on a holiday to spain that I need to be very carefull with olive-oil. I spend much of an evening in the bathroom and wasn't up to much the next day!
There are more foods I can only take in moderation. Oh well.

I had foodpoisoning once, on a convention in Thailand. Ugh! I never felt so utterly sick and miserable in my entire life! I truly hope never to experience that again, ever....

My daughter got sick after eating an ice cream cone in Animal Kingdom. However, she forgot to wash or use hand sanitizer BEFORE eating the cone. So I figure whatever was in there came from her hands.

How long after exposure do you get effects from viruses like noro? Is it hours, or days?

Usually it's the stomach virus, not food poisoning. Those suckers can spread rapidly.

Not discounting your familys' illness but right it is the season for GI bugs..I had a violent one before Thanksgiving and I too thought it was food poisoning and it wasn't.Hard thing to pinpoint but I am willing to bet it was a virus.A few posters have come back reporting the samething and each and EVERY year around this time we start hearing the same thing

Sorry to hear that you fell ill. I am a firm believer in washing your hands prior to eating. I see most people walk into a fast food place, order, sit down and eat without washing their hands. They probably just rode rides touching something that someone else touched (like buzz lightyear or the indy cars). If a person earlier in the day was sick then "bazinga". If you read about noro-virus, it can live on things like elevator buttons, railings and buzz lightyear guns and indy steering wheels!!! :)

Also, the worst thing I have seen is kids getting out of the kids pool on Disney ships and going to their lounge chair and eating. Right out of a kids pool to the food with their un washed hands. I consider the kids pool on the ship like a cup of tea. (think of dipping a tea bag in a cup of hot water). ewww

What a question? That like asking have you ever got food poisoning at home? So, are you saying your family only gets sick at WDW and never at home or other places you visit. I agree with the other posters it is really impossible to know if it is food poison or some other stomach issue. I know with my kids if they eat too much rich food all day they usually end up sick that night. So, now I really monitor what they eat on vacation and I make them eat fruit and drink lots of water to balance out the rich food. I think people over indulge on vacation.

A lot longer then, "right after eating an ice cream cone". Kids get stomach problems at the drop of a hat. Eating rich foods, travel, being out in the heat for extended time have all been known to trigger stomach upsets in children.

If they just got out of the pool then they probably were OK. Pools contain chlorine that kills bacteria and their hands are probably still wet, so not nearly as risky as playing with the chains in the queues.

I just want to say that if you think it was the food that got you ill, I would recomend contacting WDW and letting them know. They will do a follow up with the restraunt and they have a way at looking back at the temps and what was going on there around that time. And, if anyone else experienced this and ate at the same place, then they would know something was going on and could address the situation.

Yes, this has happened to me, had to go to the hospital, was not pretty. I did let WDW know about it. Thats all I can say.

But, handwashing is essential anywhere, especially somewhere like WDW. Atleast carry aorund some handsanitizer.

In all my 20 years of visiting Disney I've never gotten food poisoning!

OP: I'm so sorry for your family! Hope everyone feels better ASAP.

My DS10 threw up on two different nights during our trip a few months ago. It was bedtime, both times, and he thinks it was the Flaming Hot Cheetos he ate because both nights he threw up he had eaten some Cheetos that day. (And threw them up) But my DSS and DD both ate the Cheetos too and neither of them got sick. SO I am not sure what caused him to get sick two times in 10 days but I felt really bad for him. He came in our bedroom, both times, and told me "Momma I think I am about to be sick will you come into the bathroom with me?" He likes to have company when he gets sick. I am the opposite. I want to be left alone when I am sick. I don't want you standing outside the bathroom door listening as I puke then asking me if I am ok. NO I AM NOT OK. =)

I think if you get REAL FOOD POISONING that it is usually WAY MORE SEVERE than a stomach bug. I have had both. One time I got food poisoning, or so they told me in the ER and several times I have had stomach bugs. And with the food poisoning it was violently ill and just retching and retching and even once you are completely empty you keep vomiting and dry heaving over and over.

Needless to say I would much rather have a stomach bug, even if it gets me out both ends, than have real food poisoning. You get sick from one, but the other one can kill you if it is bad enough.

I have had food poisoning... I have also had a stomach bug that was JUST as bad as the food poisoning. Both ended up with me in the hospital on IVs due to being so ill.

If someone thinks they have food poisoning they need to go to a doctor and get checked out. Until then, no restaurant is going to take it seriously and will simply write you off. You NEED that diagnosis if it is truly food poisoning.
