Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

Has anyone gotten the fever, chills and body aches 1.5 to 2 weeks after your vaccine (Pfizer)? DH got a fever, chills and his knees and back hurt 2 weeks after his first dose. He got a COVID test and it was negative. We figured he picked up a bug as the week prior I did lots of school cloths shopping and we went to the zoo one day (only went to outside exhibits and stayed away from the crowed). He is about 1.5 weeks out from the second shot and started with a fever mid day today. We have not gone anywhere other then grocery shopping in 2 weeks. Kids are now back in school now (started April 12). We are thinking this might be a delayed reaction to the vaccine. The only other thing I can think of is if he is picking up bugs from the kids in school. When we first started dating and I worked at a daycare he got sick a lot until he built up his immune system.

I'd take him to the Dr. just to be sure. Better to be safe.

I was shocked when I moved from California to North Carolina and they were giving out wine samples in the grocery store.
I was shocked when I moved from California and I could not get either wine or hard liquor unless I went to a package store. Package stores also could not sell beer. You'd go to the discount booze place and they'd have two stores right next to each other, One for beer and the other for wine and hard liquor. And you could not go between the two inside. Oh and only the beer side was open Sunday. HAHAHA.

Thanks for sharing that. It did seem like there were fewer people when I got my second. 🙁

(Though I’m still hoping it was mostly that there were just more seconds the day I got my first.)

The day I got my first shot, I waited 2 1/2 hours in line. As you got to the front, they split into two lines - 2nd shot Moderna and first shot Pfizer. The line for second shot was so much longer than first shot. I probably would have waited AT LEAST an extra hour if I had been there for my second. Waaaay more people getting second than first. So that logic tracks with my experience.

I'm pretty sure that's well outside the window for that sort or reaction. Another poster had a similar experience happen 3 days after her COVID vaccine. Hers did turn out to be COVID though. At this point, your husband has picked up something else. What sort of COVID test did he have? If it was the rapid type, it has a chance of being negative more so than a PCR test.

48 hours post 2nd shot and feeling good. My fever broke last night and my headache was gone, woke up a little achy in the joints but now I'm feeing great.
I would say the side effects from the 1st shot were worse because they lasted longer (4 days). The only different side effect this time was an actual fever, but it lasted about 12 hours so not bad at all. I'd much rather deal with that for a day than feeling awful for 4.

Everything that I've read suggests that this is too far out for a vaccine reaction. BUT...my son got a fever, chills, some aches about 1.5 weeks out from his first Moderna vaccine. Two COVID tests came back negative (he's tested weekly at school, and I went there and took him for a PCR test when symptoms started). The doctor also ran strep and mono tests which were negative. He had this for about a day and a half and was suddenly better. He's in college, but is in his room most of the time with no in-person classes. He very well could have picked up a virus of some sort, but it is a similar time period to your dh.

Well, here it is 36 hours post (1st) Moderna shot for my son. Yesterday he was saying his arm is really sore, but he went to work (night shift). Came home at 7:30 am and went directly to bed (not normal). I didn't see/talk to him until about 5 minutes ago, his whole left side is sore, but no other side effects (besides the sleeping for 14 hours). I think he's deciding whether he wants to go into work tonight.

I think sleep is a common one. Both of my parents and many of my aunts and uncles just slept a lot the day after getting their second shot, and then they were fine. No other side effect aside from being tired!

I was one of the unlucky few who got fever and aches and such, but that isn't the norm. I think only about 10% of people get a fever after the vaccine. Like someone else said, the people who have the most side effects are the people who share their experiences! You don't hear from all the people who get their shots and feel just fine. As for me, yes, I got a 102.8 fever, but it only lasted for a day, and then I was back to feeling 100%! It was totally worth it, and I'm glad I had an immune response.

so my mom age 70 finally got her first shot.. here in Germany. Interesting in her yellow vaccine book it says Comirnaty.
So of course I google and did you guys all know that the Pfizer/Biontec shot is actually called Comirnaty?

From all the FB pictures my US friends post, none of those papers said Comirnaty. Now my mom is worried that she will be stuck not getting on a Disney ship because that one person holding the power has no idea what Comirnaty is.

It was not a rapid test. It took about 24 hours or so to come back. The fever this time only lasted about half the day. By last night it was gone and has not come back. It is very strange.

DH fever was only mid day yesterday. He took advil at about 12:30 and the fever never came back. It is very strange. I told him if it happens again he is going to the doctor.

It's not exactly what you're saying.

BioNTech and Pfizer filed for the EU's EUA approval under the brand name Comirnaty. As far as I know they are the only ones to call it that. The U.S., Canada, etc it's Pfizer (or Pfizer/BioNTech sometimes the full name listed out). You wouldn't see Comirnaty on someone from the U.S. because that's not how it was filed with the FDA under, and for Canada same story.

Not that there can't be longer lasting side effects like the swollen lymph node but having a fever would be a weird one to crop up as it's your body trying to fight off something. For a reaction to a vaccine that would be strange to have someone's body up and mount a response such as a fever that late into the game.

I think it's a tad more plausible that he picked up something and his body was reacting to it rather than a side effect from the vaccine and awful timing just after dealing with getting the vaccine dose. At least it was over with quickly for him :)

I've had days where I just felt crummy for a day or two and then I was fine and dandy. I figured I picked up something, my body fought it off, now I'm good to go.

I had my second Moderna dose yesterday, it's been 24 hours, and I think I'm done with side effects, so here's my story.

I got my shot around 9am. Until about the 11-hour mark (around 8pm), I had no side effects except a sore arm, but at that point I started getting chills and an achy neck and shoulders. I used a heating pad on my back for the rest of the evening, and it helped tremendously. I got tired early but only went to bed a little earlier than my usual bedtime, with lots of blankets, the heating pad, and a couple of purring cats (they are so good at healing energy!). At that point the side effects were more annoying than they were serious.

Overnight, the chills went away after a couple of hours, and I turned off the heating pad, but I still didn't really sleep well. Lots of waking, repositioning, trying to get back to sleep. Woke up with a slight headache but still nothing major.

Then around half an hour after I got up, I had a huuuuge wave of nausea and dizziness. I sat down and passed out. It was way more unpleasant than anything else that had come before, but it only lasted about ten minutes. After I recovered, I got up, and — knock on wood — have felt totally normal since then. It was almost as though instead of giving me drips and dribbles of side effects, the vaccine decided to give it all to me at once. It's been two hours since then with not even a stiff neck.

In terms of self-care and side-effect mitigation, I just followed my usual routines. I'm a big walker (hit my 10,000 steps yesterday, which is a little over four miles) and a big hydrator (about 108 ounces; my usual goal is 104). I'm 44 and am generally very healthy. So my side effects lasted about twelve hours, but aside from the debilitating nausea that preceded the fainting, it wasn't that bad.

ETA: My blood pressure is already at the lower end of normal, and an additional drop in blood pressure or blood sugar probably combined with the more typical side effects to cause the fainting spell. Fainting is not a normal or "known" side effect of Covid vaccines; the few instances that have taken place are typically at the time of injection and are attributed to fear of needles or pain. Mine was almost 24 hours later, and I don't have any relevant phobias — nor would they have made a difference at that point if I had.

I have had my anti-anxiety medications adjusted and was able to move up my second Pfizer shot. Still not sure if I will keep it there or move it back or skip it altogether given the fact that I practically needed to be sedated after the first shot due to anxiety.

Side effects from first shot were just a sore arm, but every little thing felt like a weird symptom - lower back pain? Kidney must be failing. Leg pain? Must be a blood clot. Migraine? Having an aneurysm. It was not a fun two weeks.

Fever after a COVID vaccine is common.

From the Moderna and Pfizer clinical trials, close to 20% of <65yo and 10% of >=65yo participants reported having a fever.

You didn't read the comment or weren't following the conversation :)

The poster was talking about a fever 1 1/2 to 2 weeks after the shot just randomly showing up. No one was talking about getting a fever from the vaccine as in within a few days..I uh def. had a fever from the vaccine (see my awful update pages ago), my husband did as well, my mom did as well. All the comments in regards to that poster's husband in particular was discussing delayed reactions such that a fever cropping up that late would have been unlikely from the vaccine (or so multiple poster's thoughts were).
