Have you flown JetBlue?

How does the DirecTV thing work? Does every passenger wear headphones to listen to their tv? I have never flown with them and I'm wondering how this works. It sounds cool to have TV in every seat, but I don't get how everyone listens to it. Do you have to pay for headphones? Can you bring your own? ANything else I should be asking about JetBlue?

Hi,

Yes, everyone gets his/her own (free) headphones.

They hand out a cheap pair. There is usually a bin that sells a "better" version for a $1 but I like my own pair best.

It really is a pleasure to fly with Jetblue..the seats are roomier, the attendants are friendly and the whole TV thing makes the flight fly! (pun intended).

Yeah, the 'paid' headphones are marginally better (at least, one side of the pair I bought :)) but as rosiep knows, there's a 'universal' plug at each seat - so bring 'em if you've got 'em.

Each seatback has an individually controlled tv screen with access to DirectTV programming. You have a module that changes the channel and adjusts the volume. To listen, plug in headphones. They give you a pair for free, or you can buy a nicer pair for a dollar or use your own.

Consumer Reports recently ranked JetBlue the #1 American airline for a reason!

I flew JetBlue in March and was impressed at how amazing the entire experience was. The seats were comfortable, the TV, snacks and service were fantastic! I definitely would recommend flying JetBlue, and will continue to do so myself :-)

We try to fly Jet Blue as often as we can. The TVs are a great perk. I use the free headphones, but my husband has a nice pair and brings his own.
We're on the tall side, so the extra leg room is a nice benefit as well.

Cool! Thanks for the great reviews. I'm really looking forward to trying them. I will totally bring my own headphones (and my son's kid sized ones). Just a few weeks to go!!

We are flying JetBlue this summer and now I'm really psyched!!

The TV is great... on our last trip I got 3 episodes of Stargate on the flight down. The last episode ended just as we were landing... how's that for planning?

Definitely bring your own headphones if you have them. The ones they give you are cheap and sound terrible. I used my ipod ear buds.

Also, be careful with the volume... I seem to remember that when the flight announcement came on they were much louder than the TV volume.

Last March Break we flew Jet Blue the day after a huge storm had caused major delays and they were terrific! Because there was a very small delay less than 1/2 hr, due to their efforts to accommodate as many passengers as possible ( they were very efficient and professional BTW), they gave everyone free movies on the flight! We were shocked! Our previous experiences with other airlines, always have involved delays. We thought we were fortunate it was less than an hour! On the return leg, they even left early and we arrived early! The flight was full, everyone was boarded so they let us know that we were on our way 20 minutes early. We are so impressed with this airline, we didn't even consider another airline for our trip this March! :thumbsup2

Last February we were "Jet Blue Victims" after the Valentine's Day ice storm. Our flight was cancelled and we ended up driving to Orlando. Despite the inconvenience, I have to say Jet Blue treated us royally. I would say that their compensation has more than made up for our inconvenience. Since then we have flown Jet Blue twice and we have yet to come out of pocket and we still have some remaining credit. Because of their treatment I will remain loyal to Jet Blue and will continue to fly them whenever possible.

We flew JetBlue in July from SFO to IAD, and it was one of the best coast-to-coast flights we've ever had! We had been flying on United, but after JetBlue, we plan to use up our United miles on solo flights for various family members, and bid United buh-bye!

With a long flight, though, we found that we maxxed out the programming on the seatback TVs, and were watching the same shows over again. That was a bit disappointing. But, in general, what a great feature!

The seats were very very comfortable, and we had good legroom. The crew was super nice, and snacks were terrific too; when my youngest daughter couldn't make up her mind about which snack to select (imagine! being able to have choices of snacks anymore!), the crew member just gave her one of everything!

(The only airline that I think can give JetBlue reasonable competition is Virgin America...but they have much more limited flights and a big downside to them is that they charge for snacks--boooooo! We liked flying Virgin America a few months ago. Coming from SFO, I'd pick Virgin over JetBlue if their price is lower (which it was--by a considerable margin--when we flew SFO to IAD at Thanksgiving), and *especially* if there's a nonstop flight, which JetBlue doesn't have from the Bay Area to Orlando).

Of course, it's all a matter of where you're flying from, and those are my little aspects. But yes, JetBlue has a definite thumbs up in our family! (And I'd say, if you have headphones, bring 'em)

Will we get snack service on our flight from Newark to Orlando? That would be COOL!

I am traveling with two children under the age of 4. Can you tell me if they get noggin on the flights (that would be awesome and keep them contain for the flight)? Thanks

I wish they had Noggin, too. I checked and they do have Nickelodeon. Good for am flights, not so good for afternoon ones. Noggin ROCKS!

Out of Newark, you should have a choice of the full choice of beverages, see here
Jetblue has a wonderful selection of snack options, it does make it hard to decide sometime.
