You know, I don't think I've ever felt personally attacked....though I've felt in certain circumstances that certain aspects of my life were being attacked (completely unknown to the attacker or attackers...). Usually just general griping sorts of things I've seen and take issue with....but I don't often respond, and if I do I intend to do it in a factual, reasoning sort of way. I think at least once I wrote something that was taken the wrong way...and I think at least once I pm'd an apology to someone for either expressing myself overzealously or for saying something that was taken in a way I never intended.

Now I want to track down the PS for dessert thread...I'm wondering how something like that could possibly become heated! LOL....though I guess I always thought that about refillable mugs and occupancy issues too!

Somepeople get heated up for topics that are close to thier hearts, but take it for what its worth. This is a public forum and if everyone would agree all of the time, think how boring this place would be.

If you do think someone is bashing you, you should report them to the mods. I am stilll kind of new here but I don't think they would let that kind of B.S. go on.

My gut impression is that they're generally not very happy people. Some have done the same type of attacking on other boards also & for no apparent reason on any of the boards. I'm guessing it's their owm personal problem when it's simply to be mean.

I've been off here for a few days, but I have insomnia right now. Interesting thread. I'm a bit jaded with the DIS right now and feel less inclined to want to visit the boards. I've been on here for a few years and have posted fairly regularly in the past. Fortunately, I haven't dealt with that much negativity. In my personal experience I have come across alot of really fun and nice people, even having the pleasure to meet a few. I do miss seeing some of the "old-timers" on here, but I occasionally get to bump into a few of them on other forums. I'm learning it is good to put things into perspective - the DIS is great for info, but I think the personal aspect of it is kinda over for me. I really hate that, but bound to happen with a forum as large and open as the DIS. Maybe I will feel differently after removing myself from the boards for a bit - kinda a mini break with a dose of reality. (Yikes! Did I just say that?!?) I must admit it is hard to do with a trip coming up so soon! I really love some of you guys, though! Plus, I can learn from mistakes. I'll be doing more of this - , instead of this - .

I am new to DVC and DIS and was wondering why the Debate Board was stopped. It sounded very interesting. Did people debate anything or only Disney related subjects?

I have NEVER felt attacked, but I dont think I have ever posted anything controversial, such as refillable mug use at different resorts, pool hopping etc...

I am shocked to hear people have been atacked by PM I cant believe that happens. Especially with swearing/cursing!!!

I must admit though there are some Disers who 'sound abrupt' or impolite with there replies. I am sure they are probably nice people, just not good at expressing themselves in words.

The debate board was a tough place to visit during the political season, especially if you had a republican viewpoint. Republican posters were regularly the target of personal disparaging attacks and personally abusive comments that were substituted for discussions of issues, much more than I saw in the opposite direction. Fortunately that season ended.

How would you know that DrBond? You just registered a few months ago so I'm just wondering how you would know about the debate board.

To respond to the OPs comment, there exists on every board an element who have very strong opinions. Their posts are often strident and intimidating especially to the uninitiated. I would not let someone else's opinion affect what or how I post, they're just people too.

Well, I work with a group of people who are sarcastic, rude, and overbearing on a daily basis. And that's when they like you. Makes the stuff we see here seem kind of tame in comparison. I've never felt attacked ( strongly disagreed with, but not attacked ), though I can understand how in the "heat" of an occupancy or refillable mug thread, someone might post something they later wish they hadn't. ( I do plead guilty to overuse of hyberbole in some of my posts ) However, I still think even the most diametrically opposed DVC members on certain thread topics would still hit it off great if they found themselves sharing a bench at Epcot. Because for all of our differences when it comes to the minutiae, the thing we have most in common is a love of vacationing at Disney World.

Seems like observations showed that was a much more common approach among democrat supporters than from the other party. Oh well, that liberal tactic is not confined to just these boards. Fortunately, American voters responded appropriately.

Yes. The moderators. I think some do have their favorites, and then there are the others (like me ). I remember being involved in a thread that my posts were deleted and other posts much worse than mine stayed.

I have had this happen to me, too. And it seems to happen mostly when I try to apply logic in any given situation. It seems as if some of the posters here prefer (at times) for all to be "sweetness and light:" They feel threatened when you attempt to use logic to provide a counterpoint to their arguments. Subsequently, of course, because you've dared to use logic (rather than allow yourself to be wrapped up solely in the emotion of the argument), you are labeled "cold," "unfeeling," and even "Anti-American." I find this to be extremely off-putting.

But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop being logical!

Good word, nigglng. I know it's not a completely PC comment, but it is consistent with my observations. But that's only one person. And the passing of the political season certainly has cooled things off. I think your right about the potential infernos.
