Have you felt attacked while posting here?

Attacked and stalked, yes it happens. Particularly when you have a dissenting opinion, and enter into debate with those who have an ulterior motive. Or who just want to argue for arguments sake. There can be no winner.

I'm guessing that the more I become accostomed to posting and the more I browse these boards, I'll learn what to and what not to say that could result in such activity. Until that time comes though, flame away! It's all a learning experience to me.

I was a lurker for 4 years before I made my first post, because I saw posters being flamed right and left and wanted no part of it. Posters made seemingly innocent comments or suggestions and watch out. Either these boards have mellowed over the years, or I've grown a thicker skin, because I think it happens less now than in the past. JMHO.

How funny to be the first time I have read the DVC board in ages because of all the REALLY grumpy people that seemed to live to make others feel bad. Nice to hear that it is changing!

I love the Snow White under your name! I wanna steal it :rotfl: :rotfl:

I first found this site when planning a trip on DCL.

I made the mistake about asking if I could bring an iron to my room. God forbid I want to have wrinkle-free clothing.

I was almost accused of being so negligent as to burn down the ship. "Don't you know the biggest fear at sea?"

I have learned to lurk much more than I respond.

Athenna - If you tell me how I put it there in the first place I would happily give it to you.

Yes I have felt attacked, but I tend to be very over-sensitive to comments anyway. (Which probably just opened me up to more negativity! LOL)

Yes I have felt attacked before but many other posters jumped to my defense. That being said I banned myself from the boards for a while around that time because I am very sensitive and couldn't believe some of the rudeness I'd seen on the boards. That being said, it seems to be better now!

I have no clue!!! :badpc:

I always stay away from the hot topics after seeing how ugly they can get (refillable mugs anyone?). I have been attacked in what seems like mundane, ordinary topics. I don't get it! Some people just seemed to be looking for arguments, fortunately it isn't the majority of people here :)

BTW, I read the PS for desserts thread and after seeing how it was turning out I decided not to post there either. Sorry ArEzrbk, I feel bad I didn't help you. I thought it was a totally legitimate question from someone who didn't know. Again, that was one of those topics that I didn't see as being controversal but it did turn that way. I'm glad the person apologized to you!

Yes... unfortunately, sometimes. And I didn't get an apology, LOL. For me, it usually involves a couple of posters that are very intolerant of a different opinion.
I like the DVC board/DIS boards--nice to know there are so many Disney fans out there. We all have DVC topics we feel more passionate about and, it's not reasonable to expect that we would all agree on everything. Sometimes posters point out something I didn't think about or I can see both sides of an issue. I think these exchanges (especially on the hot topics), can be informative as well as entertaining.
And I just say NO to nasty PMs. Say it on the boards for all to read--skip the false pixie dust!

Only by the person who sent me the RUDE PM with curse words. While it was learning experince to see that you could use that many four letter words in one sentence it was not very nice and if I ever meet the "real" person I plan to wash thier mouth out with soap! (And you know who you were!)
As for the rest of it, I don't let it bother me. I get very amused when I post something that causes people to get hysterical. Let's get real, you don't know me and it is not always possible to "know" what someone is thinking from typewritten words. The only thing you can really control is your response. (it's only a message board)

I understand that everybody takes DVC very seriusly.... I do to....but there are ways of saying things and then...there are ways of saying things.

Disney is the happiest place on earth...Why can't this be the happiest board on the www?

I believe we are all here for the same reasons.....Get informed about DVC....Trade helpful information about DVC....and have the most wonderful time using DVC. Don't we all live in the same neigborhood after all?

I feel that is important to learn to agree to disagree with politness and respect.

I admire you guys who don't take it personal...in my case.... call me sensitive but everything is personal to me. It's not nice to be hurt by anybody even if they don't know who you are or your name. I know I have to lighten up but lets play nice :lovestruc

Part of being able to just let it roll off of you is time. I notice you only have posts in the 30's. Once you get past 500 or so it will not be so personal to you and you will be able to get a feel for when others are upset.

I don't think so - and if someone has in the past, sorry, didn't notice it :rolleyes1 . Whoops, strike that. I was attacked a few times, but that was on the Dear Departed Debate Board, where simply saying "Good Morning" could get you 8 opposing responses and 3 nasty PMs. :rotfl2:

Sammie makes a good point: this is "public forum" (albeit privately owned), at least in that it's like standing up in the middle of a park and stating your opinion to a group of other people ( I remember some of the heated debates at Michigan State near Wells Hall - one religious one where the "scholars" ended up debating the translation of something in Aramaic ). It's entirely reasonable for others to also stand up and say "I think you're wrong"; less reasonable, but still possible for them to append "and I think you're a jerk".

I have found there to be times when I give the DIS a short break - when I come back, it all seems to be back in perspective. But overall - IMHO - you folks on the DIS are a damned fine group of people; plus, we do have the Mods to watch over us, and crack the whip (if you pay extra ;) ).

I get that from about 4 different people I can think of right now just by logging on. :rotfl:

Personally attacked?..naaaaaa. Have I got inappropriate posts/pm's? sure.
I just say 'screw 'em' It's amazing how many (yet still a minority) can get SOOOOoooo worked up over what any reasonable person would consider a non issue!!! I tend to find those posts/positions humorish, rather than offensive-As by their very nature they are simply crying out to the world that they are 'wacko's'.

I don't mean to say that I can't agree to respectfully disagree with a valid alternate opinion on a given matter, but time has shown how MANY can't/don't read and read prior to expressing an unimformed opinion. TO those folks, I invite to spend a nite in my goat barn!

Life IS to short to get worked up over someone else stupidity or ignorance, so I let most of the "crap" go.

My dog bit my foot once while I was browsing the boards... does that count?

:rotfl2:

And to think one of my very first posts was on that now defunct debate board.

As to the comment about Wells Hall... GO GREEN!

I come here to DEstress and don't usually get involved in any hot topics. I get enough stress at work. I received one nasty pm once, I built a bridge and got over it. Didn't even give the sender the courtesy of a response.
