I know this sounds crazy, but have any of you considered selling plasma for extra vacation money???

Every time I drive past the plasma center to go give blood at the Red Cross! But I would feel very strange selling off a body part. I know, overly dramatic, but it would still bother me.

I don't think it's dramatic at all, just an opinion ;), and that is what I'm after on here.

I gave blood last week and it was a great experience (it was my first time ever).

I'm planning a trip for next fall and we can afford it, but I still feel guilty about paying out so much for a vacation! I never really saw it as selling off a body part! :confused3

In college, I knew many people did plasma draws for extra money. Then (early 90s) it was 25-35 dollars I think. I tried once but they rejected me because my veins didn't look good enough ???
I used to donate blood at Red Cross a few times a year.

Don't let anyone's judgements bother you. If it fine for your health and you're okay with it, I don't think there's anything wrong with plasma draws for money, in my humble opinion.

I have donated plasma. I haven't been in a couple years. You are not selling the plasma by the way you are donating it and they are paying you for your time because it can take a long time. It can take an hour or more/less. You are actually providing a very valuable resource to people in need.

Hints:
Drink a lot of fluid as it will make the process go faster. Also, eat protein prior to going. The anticoagulant (sp?) can make you sick. I felt ill the first time I went and had to stop. They will still pay you if you don't complete the process.

Depending on your gender, there are other bodily fluids you can sell off as well.

Before I donated plasma I thought I would feel strange accepting money. But after I sat on the bed for just over an hour hooked up to the machine I have to admit that it was quite a production. I give blood 3-4 times a year but haven't been able to bring myself to donate plasma even though I know it is desparately needed. I may be able to get up the nerve to go again if I am using the $25 for Disney. Thanks OP. Maybe we can get some kind of a plasma drive going?

Female here, and I'm not sure if I could ever do that if I were a guy... it's not a life-saving fluid...

Thanks for the head's up. I'm getting ready to really take control of my life and make major changes to my diet! It's not that I eat bad I could just do better. Knowing this will help me plan ahead for donation if I'm accepted!

I would like to hope so! I know the Red Cross has been making a major push for blood lately, but just as many people need plasma. Having just given blood, I know I have to wait 8 weeks become eligible to donate plasma, and with the holidays right around the corner, unfortunately the need rises. :guilty: It's just a bonus to be compensated for the process!

I donate blood all of the time but I do need some money for souvenirs, ya' know? :lmao:

Might as well. Plasma is needed and what you do with the money is your own business.

I've got an LCD. I don't think I'll sell it, 'cause its working fine now.

Oh my word I just got the joke!!:headache: Anyhoo...if you're thinking of donating/selling your plasma, you have to drink plenty of water - 8 to 10 8 ounce glasses a day for at least a week before you donate. That's to help with the veins. My daughter donated at school and then went to our local blood bank a few months later and she was told by the blood bank to drink all that water for that length of time. I know there's nurses on the Board so perhaps they can clarify a little better. But to answer your question: if it floats your boat, go for it.

I should have said water not just fluids. Anyway, they do say to eat lean meats and salads too for the donation to go well. I was there one time and a guys plasma looked like thick watery fat. He had to end the procedure because it was too thick. I don't know for sure, but I wondered if he had a fatty diet with high cholesterol. It really made me think about what was running through his veins. I know it's gross.

I don't think I could but only because I'd probably pass out!

But the way I look at it, if you can do it, do it. It can only help sick people! It's not like you're selling crack, lol.

7 years and a few months ago I was very sick and I needed 5 blood transfusions. Those transfusions saved my life.

I know it's not the same as plasma, but I'd gladly donate $25 to the person who donated blood so I can enjoy Disney.

I don't see anything wrong with getting a donation for your time when donating plasma and I don't see anything wrong with doing it so you can use that money for a trip to Disney or for anything else.

Thank you to everyone who gives blood, from the bottom of my still beating heart.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Awesome!

OP there is NO WAY i'd do it, but I don't do needles. If you can go for it, it can help others and won't do anything to hurt you. And before anyone jumps down my throat about not donating blood, I can't, I have a genetic defect that makes mine worthless.
