Just wondering what others have tried and if it was good and worth the cost.

The funny thing is... at the start of my low carb eating I invested in all the various things... Atkins bake mix, ketopancake mix, thicknthin no starch thickener, etc... and what I have found... is that it is all pretty much sitting around collecting dust because I tend to eat just whole natural foods. :) The ketopancake mix is actually pretty good - but I rarely have them. I stay completely away from all bars - as the glycerine in them knocks me out of ketosis. BAD stuff for me. I do buy carbolite Sugar Free chocolate bars (the smaller 1 ounce size) and have them occassionally - they are very good and they have malitol (sugar alcohols and splenda) which does not seem to have any adverse impacts for me... they are VERY good. :)

We only occasionally treat ourselves to the pre-packaged mixes & stuff, but we've tried some.

The Atkins muffin mixes are VERY good. It's hard to limit yourself to one at a time. We've tried the corn, banana nut, lemon poppyseed and chocolate chocolate chip. Nice to have on hand for times when you have company, though.

The bake mix I only use in my sausage balls... it seems to be the only place you can't taste the soy. I tried using it in a Red Lobster biscuit recipe once... they were the strongest soy tasting biscuits... almost not edible.

If you HAVE to have chocolate (and who doesn't sometimes?!), his Endulge peanut butter cups and caramel nut chews are great, but again, once you start eating, sometimes it's hard to stop there.

The syrups are great for flavoring sodas, coffee, whipped cream. I've baked with them as well. They're good, but if you can find Davinici sugar-free syrups around you, they're probably a better buy, and have a lot more flavors.

We tried the pancake & waffle mix too. I like the waffles, but would recommend against making pancakes... they come out OK, but different. The waffles are a little more "normal". Haven't tried his maple syrup... I like the sugar-free Log Cabin.

I figure it's less expensive, and better for me, to make most of it myself. :)

Love the Atkins orange-cranberry muffin mix, but wasn't crazy about the banana nut. I always have an Advantage Chocolate Coconut bar on hand just in case I get too busy too eat lunch. His Caramel nut chews are so good...I don't ususally but them though because they're too good. The things are all so expensive...$5.00 for the muffin mix here.

I like the Creamy Cinnamon Bun breakfast bars with a cup of coffee in the morning! :)

Thanks! There's a bakery in RI that supposedly sells a lot of his stuff...I think I'll check it out this week.

I would be very careful about these things in the beginning (induction phase) because they can knock you out of ketosis quite easily.

I occasionally get a low carb (ross has 3 carbs per bar i think) when I'm just dying for chocolate. the malitol doesn't bother me, either. But try to limit it to, like, once a month. I also try to eat more naturally: meat, vegs, salad with a bit of cheese, some cream every now and then.

I suggest reading the forums on lowcarbeating.com for more info and experiences reported before buying a bunch of the stuff.

My husband and I have been Atkinsing since last September, including a trip to WDW/4-night Wonder. He's just moved from Induction to Ongoing Weight Loss, while I'm basically on Maintenance ever since I found out I was pregnant :p .

While we were in Induction, we found the Advantage Bars to be invaluable for that midafternoon slump. One of those and a huge glass of water would carry me through to dinner time. Neither one of us had trouble with that knocking us out of ketosis, though.

Like others have said, the muffin mixes are pretty good. I especially liked the Banana Nut one--if I'd had it right after having "real" Banana Nut muffins from a bakery, I probably would've hated it, but after a month or two of Induction, it was wonderful!

We go REALLY light on the Endulge bars of all flavors; usually only eating half a package at once, because those do tend to slow us down.

The chocolate, strawberry and almond syrups are a major standby (we started ordering DaVinci ones online)--mixing them with club soda and a shot of heavy cream makes a GREAT treat. We have one of those almost every night. Those are just the flavors we like--DaVinci makes something like 20 or 30 different flavors.

We also take the Atkins supplements (okay, I'm taking prenatal stuff now, but I did), especially the Basic #3, Essential Oils and Dieters Advantage. We added Chromium Picolinate and Potassium from the local grocery store too. The supplements really seem to make a difference--if we forget them, our bodies let us know.

I found really good prices for all this stuff at several online vendors. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to post that stuff, so if you want to PM me for details, I'd be happy to give you a list.

We were quite unimpressed with the Baking mix (though I use it to dredge various cutlets with before sauteing), as well as the pancake mix and especially the pancake syrup. Bleah.

I make cheesecake flavored and sweetened with the DaVinci syrups every now and then and that makes a nice treat. Especially with some homemade whipped cream...yum!

Someone else mentioned the lowcarbfriends.com website--it's very good for recipes (I like Beachgirl's Cheesecake best, and I tried several). I collected some of my favorites from there and other websites in a Word doc and would be happy to mail it out by request as well.

I've found Wal-Mart has good prices on the Carbolite stuff, which makes their candy in particular more affordable than the Atkins Endulge stuff. But I like the Advantage bars better than any of the other low-carb ones I've tried.

Good luck!

Welcome to WISH, joyebean and congratulations on your pregnancy.

We are beginning our second month of induction and aren't ready to move to ongoing weight loss yet. Sounds like Atkins was very successful for you.
