Have you ever texted/rang a wrong number?'

Oh yes, I'm sure I've dialed a wrong number before, especially on our land line.

Had a "wrong number" on our land line a year or so ago, the woman called THREE TIMES. I was completely nice and polite to her the first time, I know it happens, so big deal. The second time I was a bit preturbed, but still nice to her. The THIRD time I was a little more forceful in saying "lady, you have the WRONG number!!!" She was angry, and said in a huffy voice, "well, I keep hitting the re-dial button!" Oh my gosh!!!

As for texting, yeah that's happened too. Just the other night I was reading and my text alert went off. I didn't recognize the number, and the person just said "hey." So I texted back "who is this?" He texted back and told his name, and asked if I was still coming over. I texted back that he had the wrong number. He texted back and said, "yes, sorry, I do." I texted back "no problem." :)

And a wrong number texting that I did, we had just gotten off a cruise so I sent a text to our son letting him know we'd just gotten off the ship. Never got an answer, thought it was odd but whatever....the next day we were in Nashville and went downtown to one of his favorite bars and we were listening to the music so I texted and told him, then I got a text back and the person said I had the wrong number, her name was Angela. I had the wrong pre-fix, have no idea how I did, but I felt bad that I had bothered her. But, if she would have answered my FIRST one and said I had the wrong number, it wouldn't have happened a SECOND time. :)

Of course I have.

Once I kept calling and leaving messages over a week but it turns out I had the wrong number. The answering machine was just a generic please leave a message. This was before cell phones.

I've texted the wrong number a few times but it's always been someone else in my contacts. Luckily it was never something that person shouldn't see.

I've called (and received) wrong numbers plenty of times. I'll even occasionally call wrong twice in a row. I'll call the second time in case I dialed the wrong number. If I get the same wrong number, I'll know I copied the number down wrong.

Yeah, I get wrong number calls quite a bit, but 2 of them became friends who would call back on occasion just to chat. :goodvibes :lmao:

I received a text and photo from a lady who was meeting a man at a restaurant. Had to text her that she sent it to wrong number. Didnt want her to get stood up!

For some reason I have been getting a lot of texts from people who have the wrong number, I kinda like it I am always very kind back. One was actually in Spanish so I got to brush up on my Spanish skills

My best wrong number story. I called my friend in a rant...

person I called: Hello?

Me: Hey, So I have decided that I am changing pediatricians TODAY. I have had it with Dr. XXX! .... several more sentences of complaints about said Dr.

I pause to take a breath...

Person I called: Ummm, I think you have the wrong number, but you know what, I totally agree with you! I hate Dr. XXX too. We changed from him last month.
:lmao:

Yes, I used to get wrong number calls on my cell from people trying to set up appts. with a bank. Very annoying & it took awhile for the bank to fix the problem and correct the number.

I have also called wrong numbers on my cell. One time the person called back wanting to know who called. Jeez, it was a wrong number, I realized it and hung up when I heard the voice mail. :confused3 Guess they were hoping for a call from someone, who knows.

Back when I had a flip phone and paid per text (ya know in the olden days :lmao: ) I was cheap - obviously - and never sent texts. Every week or 2 I would get texts from somebody - always the same person just saying hi or something. When she actually sent pics and asked a question about plans for later that day I texted her back that she had the wrong number which of course led to a number of texts of her apologizing and me saying it wasn't a big deal etc. Wish I would have replied the first time she texted, it would have been a lot cheaper! I think my text to her saying it was a wrong number was probably the first text I ever sent.

My son once had a giant problem with it. A mother of one of his close friends, who is also a family friend, mistakenly texted his cell number a "sext" meant for her husband! He almost died! I had the unpleasant task of calling her and telling her, and I felt so sorry for her.

It fractured some very good friendships, simply from the embarrassment, and even though it stayed private and HER son didn't find out, she has actively worked to keep our boys apart

:rotfl2: Okay, you win the prize. That's hilarious!

I've made and received wrong number calls. Matter of fact, right now I have a work-issued iPhone with a number that must have been used previously by an interesting character. I get texts from someone in NY inviting me to meet him for, um, a good time. :rolleyes1

I don't recall getting a mistaken text.
Would be impossible for me to send a mistaken text since I always use the address book in my phone for the 3 people in the world I ever text.

Received and made plenty of wrong number calls on a landline, I think Alexander Graham Bell not only invented the landline, he invented the misdial. :)

Will say I have made a whole lot more incorrect calls since we switched to VoIP phones at work. We immediately notice a huge drop in audio quality on the calls, but apparently the drop also causes the system to mishear the tones of the number you dial. So you can dial 444.4444 correctly, but it "hears" one of the digits wrong, and you get a wrong number. And we're in California, where under our old ATT PBX system, they waived access fees for calls thru other phone networks. So now, we can call any of our locations in the country for free, but if we call 15 miles from the office into the next area code, there is a $1 per call network access fee. We get printouts of our long distance usage every month. Mine used to cost the company about $2.99 a month, my last breakdown under the VoIP system average cost was $15 a day, all for calls no more than 100 miles away. I hear our month cost company wide went up $9,000 a month since the switch. The cost of network access fees within California wiping out any savings over the old system.

I've had some unusual ones...Once someone called late at night and kept addressing me by my (somewhat unusual) first name. It turned out it was just a coincidence that they called a wrong number with the same name as the person they were looking for.

Had some texts from someone who was offering to share their drugs, thought I was 'Kendra.'

Then a drunk woman called cussing me out and sure her 'man' was with me.

My 15 year old DD got messages on her cell number daily from a car dealership thinking she was a particular customer. Finally one day she happened to answer and they had called to say the new Range Rover was in that she had ordered. :scared1:She kept saying you got this for me as a surprise mom and dad! My DH and I busted out laughing. Yea right, your surprise car would be more comparable to a Pinto!:rotfl2:

Yes, I get wrong number texts & phone calls. I really don't see how hard it is to dial the correct number.

I'm always polite when someone dials the wrong number, but it's pretty irritating...especially when they get upset at ME like I'm the one that caused it!

My husband once received a wrong number call and the person hung up. The call was literally like 20 seconds long, max. A few days later he got a phone call from the POLICE asking him to come in for questioning on a case about stolen motorcycle parts. They were very rude to my husband and honestly thought he was involved because I guess the person that dialed my husband's number was involved! He had to bring in his cell phone records and everything proving that the call was less than 1 minute long, etc. What a hassle.

I get ticked when strangers text me on accident because I don't have unlimited texting (I have a certain number allowed)!

Once this lady called me a few times in the middle of the night and at first I didn't answer until she left a voicemail. It said something like "If you don't bring Amalia back I'm calling the bleeping cops you bleepity-bleep-bleep." I was freaked out! She called again and I answered telling her she had the wrong number and she said "You don't know Amalia? Oh. Okay." and hung up. Scary!

From your post, it sounds like it was just a one-time mistake. If that was the case, I would not have called and embarrassed her. I'd have told my son to delete it and never, ever mention it to anyone.

Yes I have dialed my moms number instead of hubby number.

Mom picked up the line, I said hey sexy, somethings you should never say to your mom lol mom said hello Laura it was funny.

Best wrong dial I have gotten was from my sons group home, she never said a name just "your son"
Hello this is so n so from such n such we have little problem here your son wouldn't go to work, he is throwing books at anyone trying to get in his room.

The chanting in the background was "no work, no work" just over and over. And you can hear this thud noise ever so often.

After min of asking did you try this or that. I said "honey that doesn't sound like my son"
Her reply was its not like him but really he refuses to go to work
"No honey you miss understand that does not SOUND like my son. Are you sure you have the right mom, because insert sons name doesn't sound like that."

Oh Laura is that you I'm so sorry,
Me "Want to ask so n so if he wants to talk to me?" Or maybe stand right out of book throwing distant till he runs out of books?" Have great day good luck"
