We have only ever stayed onsite the once.

We were booked to stay in Dixie Landings but they closed down all the Mansion buildings after 9/11 and we were due to fly out in December. :(

Virgin offered us a free upgrade to Animal Kingdom Lodge or a full refund. :)

We took the upgrade! :bounce:

I'm not sure when we will stay onsite again, we like to go to moderate hotels, as it's just too expensive for 2 weeks!

The one an only time I went, I stayed at the All Star Sports. It was only a week, but it was really fun. My girls and my neices loved the themeing.

Since we started staying onsite, I don't think I'd want it any other way. Unless someone else was paying.;)

We stay on-site at Universal, but I have never stayed on-site at any of the Disney hotels. If I ever do, I would like to try AKL. We visited there while my brother and family were there and really loved the theming. Had a great dinner at BOMA, and an afterdark animal tour.

Onsite for us. We really like the "magic" of being onsite.

Having stayed both onsite and offsite, for me onsite is the only way to go. I feel like I never leave the magic when I stay onsite, plus the theming of Disney's resorts is unbeatable.

Of my two visits..........

The first, early 1980's - Fort Wilderness. My family and and godparent's (my mom's sis and her family) rented a motor home. It was great, I was about 10. Only FW, The Contemporary and Polynesian existed.

The last, 1999. My family of 3. Spent a week at All-Star movies. Again, loved it.

We were planning a return trip later this year. We would have stayed on-site, probably at Pop Century, during the WDW portion of the trip. We had also planned to visit the other Orlando theme parks, but due to DH's unemployment and inability to get a full-time permanent position all plans are on hold.

My dream would be to stay in one of the deluxe resorts - Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian or Animal Kingdom Lodge.......at this point any WDW resort would suit me just fine. ::yes::

3 times, all different, 1st we stayed at a reasonably priced hotel, 2nd we stayed at my grandparents who live relatively close to the parks and 3rd I stayed onsite with my softball team. We were supposed to be at the ALL star resort but they were overbooked due to tournaments so we got to stay at dixie landings which i liked much better anyway. if I did it again I'd stay offsite because of the price. The hotel realized that most of its guests were disney goers so they had many themed things. But, hey, if you've got the money, onsite all the way!!!

The only time we stayed on-site was to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We spent 4 nights at the Contemporary Resort, before our 7-night Disney Magic cruise. It was wonderful!! We loved every minute of it, but gosh it sure was expensive! I would love to stay at a different on-site hotel next time, but not sure we will because of the cost. We may just take our camper and stay at the campground instead. I'm sure that would be fun too! :)

My family has stayed both onsite (Port Orleans Riverside and the Poly) and offiste. While I love the magic onsite, especially at the Poly (my favorite WDW resort), it's not always the best option since there are 5 people in our family. At the moderates, we have to get 2 rooms, and at the Poly we had to cram into one room and one bathroom...which is ok for a few nights, but not so fun for an extended stay. We loved where we stayed last time, because we had a huge suite at a beautiful hotel for less than half the price of a room at the poly.

We stayed off-site twice in the early 80's. Then we stayed on-site for one trip, and have never gone off-site again! That was why we decided DVC was the only way to go for us. Now we not only stay on-site several times a year, but our initial investment was"paid for" with what it would have cost for just 3-4 on-site stays in a deluxe.

:D

I've stayed onsite 3 times and I don't think I could stay offsite ever again. There's too much to offer by staying onsite. Free transportation, Early Entry, E-Nights, great themed resorts, and of course, it's Disney. Thankfully, my girlfriend feels the same way, so whenever we go together in the future, we'll be staying at a Disney resort.

We stay onsite all the time, would never ever say offsite. But if staying offsite is cheaper for you, than hey at least you're still going to WDW and that is all that matters. :D

Onsite is the only way to go for us which is why we bought DVC. Now we have an onsite home with a full kitchen and washer and dryer! I love my DVC!

I don't think I could stay off-site. To me, the whole reason to go to WDW is to immerse myself in the magic. Plus, we are flying across country and don't rent a car...plus, for me, why fly all that way just to stay in some boring, generic hotel? We also have small children and love the convenience of not having to go too far to the hotel for a nap. I will state that we are eligible for Shades of Green, so that makes a HUGE difference in the price for us. If we didn't have that option, it might not be so simple for us to stay on-site, but I will still make it work!

Pre DS - my visits were always off-site

When DS was 4 (1996) we stayed at All Star Music
In 01 we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and bought into DVC
02 we stayed at PO/FQ (some know that story)

And this Oct we are going "home" to the VWL!

I've stayed onsite Disney 3 times and offsite 16 times! I prefer off because I like going to Orlando and being onsite restricts you to Disney.

I LOVE staying onsite Universal, though. The FOTL is worth the extra money. If Disney offered that I'd stay onsite there.
