Have you ever split a meal at Blue Bayou without the fee?

I've read people splitting meals at Cafe Orleans and just asking for an extra plate so as not to be charged the split fee. Can you also do that at Blue Bayou? Also, are they strict about an 11yr old choosing from the children's meal? My son was looking through the menu and wants some kind of pasta, specifically the chicken pasta on the children's menu.

Well, Blue Bayou is just about the only restaurant where DH and I do _not_ share, but we have friends that do, and they just tell them one plate is fine, and eat very snuggly-like, and do not get charged, but they were on their honeymoon last time they joined us so were determined to be cutesey. Can't help you on how strict they re about kids menus as mine is only 4.

No, we've never done that. We love BB and when we eat there sometimes it's either our first meal of the day or our only meal of the day so we are generally hungry enough to finish. We do tend to share, as in the DBF will get a Monte Cristo, I will get the Tesoro Island Chicken and I will give him some chicken and he will give me some of the MC.
As for kids and the age thing, we asked our server once if DD13 could eat off the kids' menu there, she didn't want anything off the adult menu, she's very picky and likes the kids meals much better. He got very rude and said "you CAN'T tell me you're doing that, I CAN'T LET you do it" so I said "Ok, we will get her something somewhere after we leave" (which DD was fine with, we'd already discussed the possibility of having to do that), so he backtracked really fast and was "nice enough" to let us do it "this one time" but in the future "it wouldn't be allowed". So if you don't tell them he's 11 you'll probably be fine, otherwise you might have to get him something somewhere else. LOL I was more annoyed at his attitude when he was speaking with me then anything else.

If they're real strict on the kid's menu thing, just ask if you can get an adult portion of a kid's item. Most places are happy to do things like that, but they charge you more, obviously.

We didn't have a problem asking for the kids menu for our eleven and ten year olds. My eldest son wanted the kid's selection and was able to get an adult portion of the kid's choice. This was both at BB and Ariel's WOC.

Disney does not enforce kid's menu "ages," just like 99.99% of all businesses. An adult can order off it just as easily as an 11 year old.

For example, if the meal you order is a pasta that fame ith a salad, then they would divide the main course between the two and each person would have their own regular portion of sides. Just tell them that you want an extra plate, but no extra food. DS is 11 and always orders off the adult meal. Usually he and DH share.

Yep, Rangermom has it right. If you ask for a split plate, you'll be charged, but will get a full set of sides for each person. If you don't want to be charged, be very clear that you don't want a split plate, but ask for an extra empty plate. They'll bring it to you free of charge, and then you can split the meal yourself.

This is also true, altho the server at BB did not give us this option, we were offered this option at other places. CO comes to mind as does CC. DD ordered a kids portion at CO but at CC she did the double/double deal. Basically if your child orders from the kids menu they will double the portion for double the price.

Not always true. At CS places it's 100% true but at TS places adults are more restricted to the adult menu. At least in my experiences.

Yes, Rangermom is right. But CO also charges a split plate fee and there are NO sides provided at CO. Just an fyi.

We have shared the Monte Cristo meal and was not charged a spilt plate charge. The kids shared a dessert.

They never charge split plate fees for desserts, we usually get one to share and just get 4 spoons for it. The server normally says "with 4 spoons" when we order desserts.

I always share the Monte Cristo. It's just too much food for one person (and I can usually eat a LOT!) Like others have said, if you just want to split what's on the plate, just ask for an extra plate.

If you split a meal, there's more room for dessert! (or for a cup of soup before the meal!)

DS11 ordered off the kid's menu this summer. The waiter was rude about and huffed and puffed. After he made a big show, he said fine. Honestly, his attitude didn't bother me, I had a feeling it was coming, so I was ready for it.
