Have you ever sold a car to CarMax?

We are thinking of driving to Memphis and seeing what CarMax would give us for our car.

The guy over the phone told my husband it would be a little less than Blue Book........I'm wondering if thats correct.

I would love experiences.

First I don't want to drive the car 200 miles and then them offer us less than the $4000 we were offered here. Second I know they are going to have some profit on the car, thats understandable but I just hate to think of putting the extra miles on the truck and the wasted time.

I think CarMax has a website where you put the information on your car in, like year, make, model, mileage and condition of the car and it comes back with a ballpark figure of what you would get for it.

We have sold cars to Carmax before and found them to be very fair and reputable. I've also used their offer as a bargaining chip on a trade, let the dealer tell me what he will give me on a trade, then pull out my certificate from Carmax, usually offering me upwards of $1000 more. The dealer changes his tune pretty darned quick.

Judi is right they do have a link to Kelly Blue Book to give you an idea of what your vehicle is worth.

My DH's best friend sold his car to a CarMax in Memphis. They gave him a lot for it. I know he got more than he owed for his Jeep which was a little over a year old (5 year loan). I know he was happy with the deal.

I went to the websight and the blue book is well more than the 4000 we were offered so we are going to take the drive to Memphis on Saturday!!

I've never heard of Carmax, but it sounds like a good deal. I'd take the drive and see what happens. If you can get more than $4,000, it will be well worth the drive.
