Have you ever noticed this about SSR?

I know we'll never go back to SSR after our stay in 2007, after getting "stuck" in Carousel and so far away from everything that it was ridiculous. Anyway, ever notice that there are never any posts that say they LOVED SSR after staying in Carousel?? It seems like we're the only ones that had to stay way out there! Any time I open up a thread that says they loved this place, I know for a fact it'll say they stayed anywhere but there. Just an observation.

You may be correct, especially if someone has only stayed in a resort, any resort, only one time. One time in a resort's least desirable location does not give a true feeling of the resort. We stayed in the Carousel on our first trip to SSR and yes, it was not a favorite spot. That being said, we did love the rest of the resort and the main area so we wanted to try again and stay in a better location, which we have since had the pleasure of doing. And yes, SSR is much more enjoyable if you stay in the Grandstand or Congress Park area (have not been in the Springs yet). I guess what I am saying is that one should not judge any resort solely on where they stay (since at any resort you may get a great location or a terrible location for that resort). Judge the resort on what it has to offer for everything else other than room location and if you enjoy that, hope you get a better location next time. If you do not like what the resort has to offer, then a better room location will probably not really make you any happier with the resort.

So where is the best place to stay at SSR. This is the first I've heard of Carosel. Is this a place to avoid? I have ressies at SSR for Spring Break, but I did not request a specific area yet. Sounds like maybe I should.

thanks!

Actually, I do remember a post that loved the Carousel. (I'd search for it, but can't remember anything unique enough to get that dog to hunt properly).

IIRC, the poster enjoyed the scenic walk across the bridge to the main building and didn't think it was all that long. Also mentioned that they liked the quiet area and easy access in and out by car. Something for everyone, somewhere, LOL.

What is the knocl on that area? What are the pluses of the others? We are going for the first time next summer.

On my 2nd trip to SSR not knowing there was nothing near it I was in Carousel. Needeless to say after one night I paid the cleaning fee and changed to Congress the next day after a room became free.

We'll be staying at SSR for the first time next April and don't want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere in the resort. Is it possible to just say at check-in that we don't want Carousel, or should we contact MS and ask them to note that request on our ressie? :confused3

Sorry if that sounds a bit daft, but this will be our very first trip "home". :cutie:

To be perfectly honest, we really wouldn't mind Carousel. There probably are only a handful of us out there. We like the more quiet areas, don't need to be near a pool area, love to walk and yes, it's easy in and out by car. Can you guess we have no kids? ;) That being said, we have requested Grandstand for our next stay (stayed there last time), but wouldn't mind Carousel if we were given it.

A friend and fellow DVC owner went down for a primarily golf vacation with his young son and said he enjoyed staying in Carousel. They liked the quiet and used the Paddock pool which wasn't a far walk.

we have stayed twice in Carousel and loved them both but we are middle aged and quite is nice on vacation, as far as being to far away we enjoyed the walk took our mugs and walked loved it visiting with others along the way and enjoying the resort the grandstand area was not developed yet. We do now try for grandstand because I have fell in love with that area.

We have stayed at SSR 3 times, twice in congress park and once in the carousel. I loved my first time in CP, absolutely HATED my second time in CP and actually really enjoyed my time in carousel. It was far, but not that far. But I don't mind walking. That said, we are staying there in a couple weeks and I would prefer a different section. I would like to be closer to a pool and/or playground. But if I got put in carousel it would be ok. I did like that the rooms were practically brand new when we stayed there (oct 07). But I think this time I might request Grandstand or maybe Paddock. But we will be checking in around midnight, so it may very well be the carousel!

OP here. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I think this poster meant to type "knock". The "knock" with me about Carousel is that is it very, very far from the main building where you can buy convenient food items, souvenirs, has the main pool and all the food offerings. My biggest gripe is that if you don't have a car (which we didn't), you are truly up a creek. You will be totally dependent on taking the internal bus if you are in a hurry in between parks (which we were) and nothing, and I mean nothing is convenient if you are way out there. I personally hated it. And it was much too condo-ish for me. But its just my opinion. If you are vacationing to just relax, you will love this area. It is very quiet. But whatever you do, RENT A CAR. For the poster that asked about requesting not to be there, I did just that. When I checked in, they said that is literally the last room left. Oh well. This resort is just not for me. I'll stick with my home, BCV. I think I just love the feel of being attached to the main resort too, and being in short walking distance to everything.:)

I do remember a few posts saying essentially they were worried but enjoyed it. I'd think it really came down to whether you had a car and whether you wanted to use the pool. It wouldn't be my first choice but I don't see any reason to avoid it either but then we always have a car.

Well here's a post.

One of my favorite rooms ever at SSR was in the "section that was so far away from everything" Lovely view, nice room.. I would stay there again in a heart beat. Veru quite (maybe because all the whining got folks moved to more crowded areas? LOL!)

It's not as far from there to the main building as it is around World Showcase....

(Have you ever noticed that folks on the DIS boards who decide that they don't like a resort can find ways to bash well after thier only stay?)

Actually, I came on the Dis shortly after our stay back then, and gave my report. I am merely observing that almost every post I see in favor of this resort, never praises Carousel. Why do you consider my post bashing? It is more an observation, that is all.

Well one because you posted a "Fact" that no one loved Carousel... based on your dislike. This statement " I know for a fact it'll say they stayed anywhere but there" is not an observation!:rotfl2:

Two, you stayed there a year ago and didn't like it.. So today you decided to REMIND everyone how bad it was. Now I would assume there are places you have stayed and liked, but you didn't feel the urge to talk about them did you??

I agree 100% with your observation. I remember that heated post last year, and think its ironic that it had to be brought up again....by the original poster.

She vented her disdain quite well once, but apparently still hasn't moved on with her disappointment. Kind of like after a divorce, the ex-wife keeps bringing up the past with her ex-husband.

We all have bad stays. Our last trip to AKV was easily the worst WDW stay for us. But we are giving it another try at Halloween. On another board, Dumbo (if anyone remember) who was an adamant SSR basher, now ranks SSR as their #3 favorite resort.......... Ah, those were fun posts!

Don't know about the previous SSR post and all...

But I love SSR in general so I don't think I'd be all that disappointed no matter where I stayed there. I did stay in the Paddocks once (while Carousel was being built) and for as far away as it was, it wasn't that far. The foot bridge made for a lovely walk and made the trip so much faster. Now, walking from CP to the Carriage House is something I don't enjoy. You can't walk along the water the whole way there - you have to either walk along the busy road the whole time, or cut back up to the road when you hit the end of the water - making the walk a bit longer.

And feeling condo-ish? Um, yeah, it's a timeshare, they ARE condos! I didn't like BCV because it felt too much like a hotel, and the check-in area is combined with the resort hotel which makes for quite a raucous.

Like I've said before, you can have my spot at BCV and I'll take your spot at SSR.

If Carousel actually had a free Carousel to ride on, perhaps there would be fewer complaints from the young crowd?
