Have you ever lost points?

Just wondering if anyone has ever lost a good amount of points due to forgetting baking deadlines, rental contract falling thru, canceling last minute, etc.

Nope! Nary a one since we bought in late 1999.

I'd like to attribute it to my immense knowlege of the workings of DVC as well as my unparalled management expertise, but if I had to be honest about it, it's been pretty much just plain dumb luck! (Haven't had to cancel a single trip and have a perfect use year for our usual travel periods).

This question might make a good poll. Come to think of it, I think there was such a poll, but I don't remember how long ago. Maybe someone with a little more ambition than I have tonight will look it up and resurrect it from wherever old polls go to die.

Best wishes -

We lost 12 points once. We banked our points from our first year, then in the second year we used all but 12. They had already been banked, so they couldn't be transfered or banked again and I couldn't find anyone who only wanted to rent 12 points.

Now that I think of it, I should have just offered to give them to someone, it would have been better than letting them go to waste!

Not one point ever!!!

We've been members since January 1995 and currently have 1675 points all at OKW with two use years (June and December).

My tried and true method is tracking ALL activity using the Quicken finance program. Each of the use years have automatic reminders that remind me of banking deadlines as they approach. Without some type of computer automation I'm sure I would have done something wrong by now. Other benefits of using Quicken include being able to access a report of past points activity at any time or even projecting future use by setting up various models. Other DVC members have reported the use of either a financial program or Caskbills point tracker program with similar positive results.

I will make a prediction however...That is if I ever do lose points for any reason I guarantee it will be some of the December UY points. For some reason I often confuse the current and next UY with these.

We are always in a constant state of borrowing so no chance of a missed banking deadline here...

ANd thank goodness we have yet to cancel a trip that we couldnt reuse the points for....

We have enough flexablitiy that even if we were to have points in holding we could find a good use for them.

I haven't but I know someone who has more than once. They have a June UY and had 36 points expiring when I saw them in April. There response was that is what I have 28 more years for:eek:

I directed them to GKTW and explained since it was all paid for already why not give to a good cause.

Can't imagine letting that many points just go!

Never lost any... but did get out of sync with MS once, after a flury of reservation changes one year... I had MS send me a report showing all my DVC transactions over the years. The report is NOT user friendly, but it got me back on track.

Only lost points once and it was 1 nights worth about 5 yrs ago when we lived in N.J. -- our flight ended up being canceled due to some really bad thunder storms down in Orlando and we ended up not being able to fly out till the next day - they are only forgiving of points loss I guess if the storm is a hurricane and not just a thunder storm that cancels a flight:rolleyes: But anyway, it was in Sept. and the points loss was 12 or something small like that. But it was still a major bummer

I posted before about what our guide told us.

She calls periodically to check on her members, and one woman who had bought years before had NEVER used her points. Had not rented them to someone, given them to relatives, NOTHING.

I assume money was not an issue??

Our guide said she actually encouraged the owner to SELL her points.

Haven't lost any yet - but then again, we're not at risk since we're always borrowing!!:sunny:

We stay in a constant state of borrowing, so no chance of losing any points! Someday, I hope we'll have a lot more points for me to even have to worry about some expiring!:p

so put them on the rental thread, as a

Have a point, need a point....

and just gave away my one's / two's ies to someone in need.

They were snapped up, and I ended up making a new friend.
