I was told that the PEC was waived if your insurance was purchased at the time you booked the vacation and that you are not disabled from travel when you book. Is this not true? I'm a 2x cancer survivor and I have been out of treatment for years, but I always get the insurance.
Well...everything I've ever read in the past says that it doesn't.
Since I haven't ever been able to buy it (I can't buy flight insurance through airlines b/c of WA, because the insurance products don't cover PEC...we lost many health insurance providers when WA enacted the law as well) I have never read a policy.
I googled, and in a policy I found (
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/m...ediaType/VacationPackage/travelex-doc-wdw.pdf) it seems to show that with 3 requirements you
can get the waiver.
Waiver of the Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion
The Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion is waived
provided you meet the following requirements:
1.
the payment for this plan is received at or before
the final Covered Trip deposit/payment for your
Covered Trip;
2.
you are not disabled from travel at the time you
make your plan payment;
3.
you insure all prepaid Covered Trip costs that are
subject to cancellation penalties or restrictions
and also insure the cost of any subsequent
arrangements added to your Covered Trip within
24 hours of the payment for those arrangements.
But I have NO idea if that's a current policy. What does YOUR policy say, each time you buy it? That's what you need to go by, not what I say (which could be wrong since it seems like I already am!) or what the rep on the phone says. What is in your policy? Do you meet the requirements for the waiver?
Directly under that could be the answer to the previous poster since it seems that I am wrong for current policies.
The following exclusions apply to all coverages:
We will not pay for any loss under the plan, caused by,
or resulting from:.... (b) mental, nervous,
or psychological disorders, except if hospitalized (does
not apply to Medical Expense Benefits); (
Which, um, is kinda icky.
From the WDW site this is the policy for the insurance purchased after October 2013:
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/m...ediaType/VacationPackage/travelex-doc-wdw.pdf (looks like the one I found above?)
And this is from before then. Well actually it's a link to more, depending on your state.
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/genericcontent/insurance/
So it's entirely possible I've misunderstood; it's not like that hasn't happened before. OR it has changed. OR I'm getting myself confuzzled with
DCL insurance, which does NOT cover PEC but let me put it in my fake-cruise cart just now. Heck, the Affordable Healthcare Act could have totally changed this.
I just went through WDW's site as though I were booking a package. I was able to include insurance. This has NOT happened before; I've been denied back in the early days of WDW planning, when I tried.
Now, the insurance was $155 for a $1700 vacation. It's possible I could get that coverage for less through a non-Disney provider.
So it seems to look like I'm wrong, and the denial for the PP was either because it was different OR because it was caused from a mental condition.

Seriously, what a weird reason to deny coverage. But why did the rep say it was b/c of a PEC?
Read your policy, see if it covers, see what it says, see if you qualify.
And maybe consider looking to one of the other insurance sites to see if you can get the same/better coverage elsewhere for cheaper.
Sorry to steer you wrong there. Hope I've worked towards making up for it.
